> Quick view: From 7 September 2026, Chuan Shifu's Sri Petaling and Kepong branches give you a free Medium fish pot when you buy one of their four signature fish pots. The free pot is for your next visit, and only on a weekday (Monday to Friday, not public holidays), dine-in. A Medium pot is RM42.90 to RM49.90 on the menu, before the 10% service charge and tax. No end date has been published.

Chuan Shifu (川师傅) is a Kuala Lumpur Sichuan restaurant group best known for its suancai fish pot: live fish sliced into a bone broth the restaurant says is simmered for more than four hours, with pickled mustard greens. It has three branches, the Pudu main store on Lorong Brunei 3, Sri Petaling in the Big Castle (大城堡) area and Kepong on Jalan Kepong. Google Maps rates Sri Petaling 4.8 from over 1,300 reviews and Kepong 4.9 from nearly 1,000, and reviewers mention weekend queues.

The group posted the offer on its Instagram and Facebook on 3 September. The poster says "BUY 1 GET 1 FREE", but the terms under it change what that means, so read this before you plan a dinner around it.

How the offer works

  1. Go to the Sri Petaling or Kepong branch and dine in.
  2. Order one of the four signature fish pots: Suancai Fish Pot (老坛酸菜鱼), Sichuan Spicy Boiled Fish Pot (麻香水煮鱼), Sichuan Rattan Pepper Fish Pot (鲜藤椒鱼) or Non-spicy Wellness Fish Pot (不吃辣养生鱼).
  3. Pay as usual. You get the free pot as an entitlement for your next visit, not a second pot on the table tonight.
  4. Come back Monday to Friday (not on a public holiday) and dine in to claim a Medium fish pot.

The restaurant says it can change or withdraw the offer without notice, and "limited time" is the only hint on how long it runs.

What the pots cost

These are the prices on Chuan Shifu's own menu. Medium is recommended for 2-3 people and Large for 4-6. All prices are subject to a 10% service charge and government tax.

  • Suancai Fish Pot: RM42.90 Medium, RM85.90 Large
  • Sichuan Rattan Pepper Fish Pot: RM45.90 Medium, RM89.90 Large
  • Non-spicy Wellness Fish Pot: RM45.90 Medium, RM89.90 Large
  • Sichuan Spicy Boiled Fish Pot: RM49.90 Medium, RM98.90 Large

Worked examples

A couple who eat here twice a month. Visit one: Suancai Fish Pot Medium (RM42.90), Stir-fried Shredded Cabbage (RM19.90) and Hot and Spicy Chicken (RM32.90), RM95.70 before service charge. Visit two, on a weekday: the free Medium pot plus cabbage (RM19.90) and Grandma's Crispy Fried Pork (RM15.90), RM35.80. Two dinners come to RM131.50 instead of RM174.40, which saves RM42.90, or about a quarter of the food bill.

A family of five ordering a Large. A Sichuan Spicy Boiled Fish Pot Large is RM98.90. The free pot is still a Medium, so the most you get back is RM49.90 of fish. That is half the value of what you bought, and the free Medium will only feed two or three of you next time.

Office workers near Kepong or Sri Petaling. This is where the offer fits best. Have a weekend dinner with the family, then use the free pot at a weekday lunch with colleagues. Both branches open at 11:30am, according to Google Maps.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits regulars and anyone who lives or works near Sri Petaling, Bukit Jalil, Kuchai Lama, Kepong or Jinjang and can return on a weekday. If you already come for the suancai fish every few weeks, it is simply a free pot.

Skip it if you are visiting from far away for a one-off meal, or can only eat out at weekends, because you will not be able to redeem the free pot. It is also not the deal for delivery: Chuan Shifu does deliver now, but the offer is dine-in only. The menu includes pork dishes such as pork intestine and pork liver, so it is not a choice for Muslim diners.

Fine print that trips people up

  • It is not two pots on one bill. The free pot is only for your next visit.
  • The free pot is always Medium, even if you buy a Large.
  • Weekdays only, and not on public holidays. Malaysia Day, Wednesday 16 September, is out, so the next redemption day this week is Thursday 17 September.
  • Dine-in only. Takeaway and delivery orders do not qualify.
  • Two branches only. Pudu is not included. The terms say the offer is limited to Sri Petaling and Kepong, but not whether you can buy at one and redeem at the other.
  • Questions to ask at the counter: how long the free pot stays valid, whether it must be the same flavour you bought, whether two pots on one bill earn two free pots, and whether service charge is added to the free pot.

The offer and terms are on Chuan Shifu's Instagram post, and the full menu and branch phone numbers are on chuanshifugroup.com. Call Sri Petaling on +60 19-438 6688 or Kepong on +60 19-467 2868 to book.
