Sate Kajang and the Klang Valley's Satay Shops 2026: What a Stick Really Costs, and the Rest Day Nobody Warns You About
Kajang is where Malaysians drive for satay, but almost nobody checks the price before they sit down. We read eight Klang Valley satay operators' own channels on 10 September 2026 and found a chicken stick costs RM1.70 at Sate Kajang Hj Samuri and RM2.00 at Satay Putera Kajang two kilometres away, a 30 sen gap that inverts on mutton, where Putera is the cheaper of the two. The drinks gap is wider than the satay gap: Hj Samuri's cheapest glass is RM2.30 and every drink at Putera is RM5.90. Five of the eight close one day a week, on three different days, and one of them closes on Wednesdays, which is Malaysia Day this year. Only one Hj Samuri branch out of sixteen is actually in Kajang, and six are highway rest stops.
Nando's Is Giving Away Free 1/4 Chicken on Three Days in a Row, and All Three Run on Different Rules
Nando's Malaysia has three separate free 1/4 Chicken offers running on 9, 10 and 11 September 2026, and they are published in two different places on its own site with nothing linking them. Tuesday is the Pavilion ELITE KL reopening, capped at 50 portions. Wednesday is the new Coalfields Retail Park outlet in Sungai Buloh, capped at 100. Friday is nationwide, uncapped in the terms, and needs you to invent a promo code out of a dialect word for chicken. We read all three sets of terms, the full menu and the restaurant locator, and priced what each one actually costs you: RM7.90 on the first two days, as little as RM4.50 on the third. Re-checked on the afternoon of 9 September: Nando's has now flipped the Pavilion outlet to "Everyday 10am-10pm" on its own locator, Coalfields is still not on it at all, and a second Selangor branch has quietly gone dark.
Where to Eat in Miri 2026: Three of the Eight Have a Weekly Rest Day, and the Highland Food Is the Reason to Come
Miri is not a smaller Kuching. It is Sarawak's northern oil town and the road head for the Baram and the Kelabit Highlands, and its best-loved kitchen serves Orang Ulu food you will not find on a peninsular menu: nuba laya wrapped in leaves, purple highland rice, jungle midin by the plateful. The thing that will actually decide your day, though, is not the afternoon gap everyone warns about. It is the rest day. Three of these eight close on a fixed day each week, and Google's summary line does not show it: The Summit Cafe on Sundays, Meng Chai Seafood on Thursdays, Saberkas Night Market on Mondays and Tuesdays. We opened the day-by-day hours for eight Miri eating places on 6 September 2026, along with trading status and what diners report spending, and found that the most-repeated claim about one of them - that Mat Kolok closes at 3pm - is its Sunday time, not its weekday one.
McDonald's Malaysia: Write One Sentence on Your Receipt, Get a RM8.95 Meal Voucher (4 to 14 September 2026)
McDonald's Malaysia opened a campaign on 4 September 2026 that pays you for a sentence. Buy anything at the front counter, at a self-ordering kiosk or at the Drive-Thru, and the receipt prints a box that begins "MY MOST VALUABLE MEKDI MOMENT IS". Fill it in, post the photo on your Instagram feed tagging @mcdonaldsmalaysia, and once McDonald's has verified it they send you a unique voucher code by DM to redeem in the McD App. The campaign runs 4 to 14 September 2026. The poster values the reward at RM8.95, and the asterisk beside that number is the part worth reading: what you get is a Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) Buy 1 Get 1 Free voucher, not a meal handed over for nothing. McDonald's own artwork does the arithmetic for you on the receipt in the photo, a small Chicken Burger with small fries and a small Coke Zero at RM8.44, plus 6% service tax of RM0.51. What McDonald's has not published is a terms and conditions page, so the number of vouchers, the redemption window and whether one receipt equals one entry are all unstated. Re-checked on 5 September 2026, that is still true, and the campaign is not filed under McDonald's own Contest tab either. What did change is that McDonald's added a much bigger September offer the day after this one opened: the Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle at RM39.90, down from a struck-through RM73.70 on McDonald's own poster, running 5 to 9 September 2026 only. Buy that bundle at a counter, kiosk or Drive-Thru and the same receipt carries the entry box, so the two campaigns stack. We have also corrected the dates of the Piknik Famili Terbesar @Mekdi roadshow: McDonald's own page puts it at 5 and 6 September, two evenings at six named Drive-Thru restaurants, not the nine-day run it looked like.

A buffet quoted at RM158++ is not RM158: Malaysian restaurants add a 10 per cent service charge, and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department charges 6 per cent service tax on food and beverage on top of that, so RM158++ settles at RM184.23. A buffet quoted at RM158 nett is RM158, full stop. We read the published rate cards of six hotels across Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang and the Golden Triangle on 28 August 2026, converted every ++ price into what the card machine will actually take, and lined up the child and senior rules, which no two hotels write the same way.

Taco Bell Malaysia is giving away one free item a day from 25 to 31 August 2026. There is no promo code, no app and no minimum spend: you wear red, white, blue or yellow, buy anything at all, and the day's free item goes on the same receipt. Day one was a free Crunchy Taco Supreme, an item Taco Bell's own Bell Saver Menu prices at RM8.45 list and RM6.95 saver, which means the giveaway was worth more than the cheapest thing you could have bought to qualify for it. The catch is that Taco Bell does not publish the seven items in advance. Each day's item is announced on its own Instagram and Facebook on the day itself, so you go without knowing what you are collecting. It is also dine-in and takeaway only, so none of the brand's GrabFood buy-one-free-one runs can be combined with it, and "nationwide" means 20 restaurants across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Melaka. Secret Recipe Merdeka Buy 2 Free 1 Has Ended — Every Cake Slice Deal Still Live in September 2026
Secret Recipe's Merdeka Deal — buy two cake slices, get one free — ran for five hours on 31 August 2026 and is over. Its page on Secret Recipe's own site now returns "This Page Isn't Available" and the campaign has been removed from the brand's promotions index, checked 5 September 2026. Nothing on the menu now matches a third off. What does exist: Tea Time Special gives a free hot drink with any cake slice on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm, with no membership and no minimum spend; Bestie Thursdate is RM26 for one slice plus two beverages every Thursday, for SR Rewards members; and both the New Lunch Set 2026 and Family Combo 2026 let you add one slice at 10% off. The exclusion lists are where this gets useful — Tea Time Special, the Lunch Set and the Family Combo are Peninsular Malaysia only, so in Sabah, Bestie Thursdate is the only current Secret Recipe promotion that touches a cake slice at all. Working on Malaysia Day 2026: What the Employment Act Pays You, and the RM4,000 Line That Switches It Off
Malaysia Day falls on Wednesday 16 September 2026, and it is one of only five public holidays the Employment Act 1955 makes compulsory by name.
