> Quick view: four of the five Merdeka offers Petrosains listed died on 31 August 2026, and none was extended. One survives: buy an adult admission ticket and you get a RM30 Chakri Palace voucher, running to 16 September. The cheapest way to claim it is a weekday visit at RM28 — but only six days in September qualify, because the school break, a closure Monday and Malaysia Day take the rest.

Petrosains, The Discovery Centre sits on Level 4 of Suria KLCC. Over the Merdeka long weekend its promotions page carried five cards at once, and the loudest of them — a Special Family Package at RM69 instead of RM94 for two adults and two children in Merdeka attire — ended with the holiday.

The page has not been touched since. Every one of the five Merdeka cards was published on 12 August 2026 and last modified the same day, and re-reading the index on 31 August found no new card, no revised date range, and nothing posted for Malaysia Day. That is worth stating positively rather than as an absence: nothing has been extended, and as of today Petrosains has published no September campaign at all.

So this is now a short article about one surviving offer, and a longer one about the September calendar that decides what it costs you.

The one offer still alive: RM30 at Chakri Palace

Petrosains X Chakri Palace KLCC runs 15 August to 16 September 2026. Buy an adult admission ticket to Petrosains and you receive a RM30 voucher for Chakri Palace, redeemable on admission.

The restaurant is Imperial Chakri Palace, Lot 417B, Level 4, Ramlee Mall, Suria KLCC — the same level as Petrosains, so this is a walk across the floor, not a trip across the city. It has traded since 1999, is operated by Rotol Food-Chain (M) Sdn Bhd, and takes bookings on 03-2382 7788.

Put the voucher next to the published rate card and it stops being a garnish. A Malaysian adult pays RM28 for Science Centre admission on an ordinary weekday. The voucher is RM30. On the right day it is worth RM2 more than the ticket that earns it. Two adults on a Tuesday pay RM56 and walk out holding RM60 in restaurant credit, assuming each adult ticket earns its own voucher.

On a weekend, public holiday or school holiday the adult rate rises to RM32, so the voucher covers all but RM2. At general admission rates the gap runs the other way: RM49 on a weekday against the same RM30.

The six days in September that actually cost RM28

This is the part no poster tells you, and it is the difference between RM28 and RM32 a head.

Petrosains charges its **higher rate on weekends, public holidays *and* school holidays, and runs the longer 9.30am to 7.30pm** timetable on those days instead of the weekday 9.30am to 5.30pm. September 2026 is unusually full of all three.

  • 1 to 6 September is the school break. *Cuti Penggal 2* runs 28 August to 5 September for Group A (Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu) and 29 August to 6 September for Group B. Tuesday 1 September through Friday 4 September are therefore school-holiday weekdays charged at the weekend rate, and 5 and 6 September are the weekend itself. Six days, all at RM32.
  • Monday 7 September is closed. Petrosains shuts on the first and third Monday of every month, and publishes the dates: 7 and 21 September 2026.
  • Tuesday 8 September is the first ordinary weekday of the month. From here the Malaysian adult rate is RM28.
  • Monday 14 September is open. Only the first and third Mondays close, so the second Monday trades normally.
  • Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September are back to RM32.
  • Wednesday 16 September is Malaysia Day, a public holiday — RM32, longer hours, and the final day of the voucher offer.
  • Monday 21 September is closed, but by then the offer has ended anyway.

Net of all that, the weekdays where a Malaysian adult pays RM28 and still earns the RM30 voucher are 8, 9, 10, 11, 14 and 15 September 2026. Six days. Every other open day in the window costs RM32.

If you want the quietest of the six, take Tuesday 8 or Wednesday 9 September: they sit immediately after the school break, when the crowd has gone back to class and Petrosains is on its short weekday timetable with last admission at 4pm. Note that last-admission time — a 4pm cut-off on a weekday is two hours earlier than the 6pm holiday cut-off, and it catches people who plan around closing time instead.

The Energy Capsule, and the two prices Petrosains publishes for it

The dead RM69 package covered Science Centre admission only, and so does everything else here. The Energy Capsule ride is separate — and the ticketing page prices it two different ways.

One table gives a flat RM12 for everyone, every day. A second table on the same page gives RM6 for a weekday public buyer, RM9 on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, and RM5 for school groups.

The Combo Package settles which set is real. Across every ticket category, the combo costs exactly RM6 more than Science Centre alone on a weekday and RM9 more at the higher rate: Malaysian adult RM28 to RM34 and RM32 to RM41; Malaysian child RM13 to RM19 and RM15 to RM24; general admission adult RM49 to RM55 and RM56 to RM65. The RM6/RM9 table is the one the rest of the price list agrees with.

The practical rule: buy the Combo at the counter rather than adding the ride afterwards. It is never worse, and against the RM12 flat table it is half the price on a weekday.

What replaced the RM69 package: the RM170 family membership

If the family deal was the reason you were going, the standing version of it is the membership, and the numbers are better than the one-weekend offer ever was.

Petrosains membership runs RM35 for a child, RM80 for an adult and RM170 for a family covering 2 adults and up to 3 children, valid 12 months from purchase, with unlimited visits to the main exhibition area. As with everything else, the Energy Capsule is not included.

Run it against the rate card. Two adults and two children pay RM94 on a weekend, public holiday or school holiday, and RM82 on an ordinary weekday. So the RM170 family membership pays for itself on the second higher-rate visit — two visits at RM94 is RM188 — and just into the third if you only ever go on quiet weekdays. For a KL family with a school-age child, that is a lower bar than it sounds: the December break, the March break and the mid-year break are all inside a 12-month window.

Two cautions before you buy. First, the membership page's own FAQ still says upgrading from an individual to a family membership costs "the difference of fee (i.e.: in this case, RM75)", but RM80 plus RM75 is RM155, not the RM170 the same page charges — the FAQ figure is stale by RM15, so budget from the price card, not the FAQ. Second, the page says members "may also enjoy other on-going promos", yet the Chakri Palace offer is written around purchasing an adult admission ticket, which a member does not do. Ask at the counter before assuming a membership visit earns a voucher.

Do not look for the voucher on the restaurant's website

Chakri Palace's own site carries a prominent "Redeem Voucher" button, and it is not this offer. It leads to an email-capture page for a free Chakri Red Ruby water chestnut dessert, limited to one use per voucher — a standing lead magnet, unconnected to Petrosains.

The RM30 Petrosains voucher is issued at the Petrosains ticketing counter on admission and exists nowhere online. There is no code to enter, no page to register on, and nothing to look up. If you want the dessert too, that is a separate sign-up.

Petrosains also publishes none of the restaurant-side terms: no minimum spend, no stated voucher expiry, and no confirmation that every adult ticket in a group earns one. Treat the RM30 as money off a meal you were already going to eat, and confirm the conditions at the counter before you build an evening around it.

The card that has been up since February

The fifth listing, Swipe & Save with Bank Muamalat, is still on the promotions index and still needs care. The mechanic reads: every RM99 spend at XPLORASI lets you draw one fortune ball for an instant prize, with angpow vouchers, merchandise and a chance at gold.

It publishes no campaign period at all, its language (fortune balls, angpow vouchers) belongs to Chinese New Year, and the page was published on 12 February 2026 with its artwork in the site's February upload folder. It has now outlived two festivals on a live index. It may still be honoured, but nothing on the page says so. Do not travel for it, and confirm at the counter before planning a RM99 spend around it.

What died on 31 August, for the record

Four cards ended with the holiday, and the promotions page still lists all four:

  • Dress Up, Save More — the RM69 family package, capped at the first 31 families, for visitors in Merdeka attire. It published no date range at all; the campaign's opening slide was headed "31 August 2026 Merdeka Day Special".
  • Curiosity Unites Us — a Merdeka show, science workshops, cultural performances, traditional games and a photo booth, 29 to 31 August 2026.
  • Sale Kaw Kaw: Merdeka Edition — up to 40% off plus Buy 1 Free 1 on selected merchandise, 24 to 31 August 2026. This one was never held at Petrosains: it ran at the Sky Shop at PETRONAS Twin Tower Sky Xperience, Concourse Level.
  • Celebrate Merdeka Together at Petrosains — the umbrella card, whose copy promised offers "leading up to the 31 August 2026 Merdeka Day Special and beyond". Nothing dated beyond it was ever posted.

If you see any of these four still linked from the promotions index, that is the index being stale, not the offer being live.

Who should go in September, and who should skip

Go on 8, 9, 10, 11, 14 or 15 September if you are an adult pair who like a museum and a meal. RM28 a head, RM30 back per adult in restaurant credit, no school-holiday crowd, and Chakri Palace is a walk across Level 4. This is the best version of this offer that exists.

Go on Wednesday 16 September only if Malaysia Day is the point. You pay RM32 instead of RM28 and share the floor with a public-holiday crowd, but you get the longer 7.30pm timetable and it is the last day the voucher exists.

Skip 1 to 6 September unless the dates are fixed for you. You pay the RM32 school-holiday rate on what are otherwise ordinary weekdays, for exactly the same visit that costs RM28 the following week.

Skip it entirely if the Energy Capsule is the draw for your children — no offer here covers it, and it is a separate RM6 to RM12 depending on which of the site's two tables the counter is working from.

Buy the membership instead if you have children aged 3 to 12 and you can imagine two visits in a year. RM170 beats two family days at RM94, and it removes the whole weekday-versus-school-holiday pricing problem for good.
