> Quick view: Suria Sabah's Merdeka sales are over. Checked against the mall's own Offers and Events page on 3 September 2026, eleven of the offers that were live in late August are gone — Thai Odyssey's RM69 pair deal, HABIB, TOMEI, LAC, AKEMI, OH!SOME, MUJI, Pandora and the Kidzooona anniversary card among them — and four of those expired offers are still sitting on the mall's page as though they were running. What arrived to replace them is worth the trip: a POPULAR Bookfair on the 3rd floor concourse to 6 September, Sushi King's free blind-box plushie to 30 September, Thai Odyssey's RM160 cashback on a RM900 package to 30 September, and a Lea Centre stock clearance to 17 September. DRUM (to 16 September), Sports Direct (to 6 September) and Kidzooona's RM28 admission (to 15 October) all survived.

The four dead offers still on the mall's page

This is the first thing to know, because it is the one that wastes a drive. Suria Sabah does not always pull an offer off its Offers and Events listing when it ends. As of 3 September 2026 the page still displays, with their own end dates printed in the caption:

  • Kitchen Shop's National Day Sale, up to 69 per cent off Joseph Joseph, GreenPan, La gourmet, Brabantia, Ankarsrum and Ooni — dated 25 August to 1 September 2026.
  • Young Hearts, buy 5 bras and above for 70 per cent off — dated 28 August to 1 September 2026.
  • MUJI (LG-64, 65 and 68) — dated 20 August to 1 September 2026.
  • Pandora, buy 2 pieces and get the 3rd free — dated 20 August to 2 September 2026.

All four are past. Pandora is the awkward one: when we first wrote this up, the mall's caption said 2 September and Pandora's own campaign artwork said 6 September, and we told readers to plan for 2 September. That date has now passed, and Pandora's Malaysian site refuses automated requests, so we cannot re-confirm the 6 September version. Treat the offer as finished; if you are passing G-21 and G-22 anyway, it costs nothing to ask.

A separate group has been removed from the listing entirely, which is how the mall usually retires an offer: HABIB's Merdeka Sale, TOMEI's jewellery savings, the LAC members' offer, AKEMI Home's Members' Day, OH!SOME's Double Trouble Challenge, Sushi Zanmai's weekly specials and Kidzooona's 15th anniversary stamp card are all gone. So are the Maxis Centre and Xiaomi Store entries, which never carried an end date — they are no longer published, so do not plan around them.

Everything still live, and the day it dies

The mall's page carries eighteen entries today, but several tenants are running more than one campaign at once — POPULAR alone has four live at Suria Sabah, only one of which the mall lists. Here is the full picture, sorted by deadline.

The three worth planning a September trip around

POPULAR Bookfair at Suria Sabah — 28 August to 6 September 2026, 3rd floor concourse area. This one is not on the mall's Offers and Events page at all; it is published on POPULAR's own nationwide bookfair list, which is where you find it. A concourse bookfair is a different animal from the shop upstairs — clearance tables, bulk stationery and remaindered titles rather than the standing range. Three days left as of publication, and it sits on the same floor as Lea Centre's clearance and POPULAR's own store at Lot 3-38, so the 3rd floor is where the money is this week.

Sports Direct — Merdeka Special, 17 August to 6 September 2026. First floor, Lot 1-45. RM31 rebate on a minimum spend of RM169, RM69 rebate on a minimum spend of RM349, on Karrimor, Slazenger, Jack Wills, USA Pro, Everlast and Lonsdale plus selected group brands. The mall's caption still only says "an RM69 rebate on Karrimor, USA Pro, Everlast and so much more" and omits both thresholds. The poster footer reads "applicable to all group brands only | red label, 2 for and on going promo", which reads as excluding red-label, 2-for and existing promo lines — ask at the till before you queue. Top tier is the better rate: RM69 off RM349 is 19.8 per cent against 18.3 per cent at the lower one.

DRUM — Merdeka Madness, 20 August to 16 September 2026. First floor, Lot 1-53 and 1-54. Spend RM100 take RM16 off, RM200 take RM31 off, RM300 take RM57 off. The ladder is not linear: that is 16 per cent, 15.5 per cent and 19 per cent. The middle rung is the worst rate on the board. Hovering around RM200, either pull back to RM100 or push to RM300 — the last RM100 of spend effectively costs you RM74.

What is new since Merdeka

Sushi King — free blind-box plushie with the Yakiniku Value Pack, 2 to 30 September 2026. Lower ground, Lot B-2 and B-3. Order a 4-pax Yakiniku Value Pack — the brand's terms require exactly four qualifying protein selections — and you get one complimentary mystery blind-box plushie, one of Sushi King, Roe Kata or Nisho Chan, given strictly at random with no swaps. Every set comes with refillable Japanese rice, salad, wakame soup and spicy pickles. If you want a specific character or a second one, plushies are RM24.90 each with any Yakiniku set meal purchase — which is the only published ringgit figure attached to this promotion, and therefore the only honest way to value the freebie. Dine-in only, kiosks excluded, and prices are before 10 per cent service charge and 6 per cent service tax, so multiply by 1.166 for what actually lands on the bill.

Thai Odyssey — Malaysia Day package promo, 1 to 30 September 2026. Second floor, Lot 2-34 and 2-35. Buy or top up a RM900 package and get RM160 cashback credited to your account plus 900 loyalty points. Valid at all Thai Odyssey outlets and the online store, so Kota Kinabalu is included. The RM10 loyalty programme registration fee is waived with this promotion. Package credit is redeemable for 12 months from purchase and extensions are strictly not allowed; only one cashless payment per transaction; not stackable with vouchers or other promotions.

Lea Centre — Grand Stock Clearance, 21 August to 17 September 2026. Third floor, Lot 3-2 and 3-77. Discounts up to 50 per cent off, footwear-led. No baseline prices are published, so it is a browse rather than a plan — but it runs a full fortnight longer than most of what is left.

Sushihan — free RM10 dining voucher, until 17 September 2026. Ground floor, Lot G-68. Turn up in patriotic dress — the caption asks you to "be creative as possible" — and the outlet hands over a RM10 complimentary dining voucher, with a second small item for following the brand's social accounts. Valid only at the Suria Sabah outlet. It is the only offer here that costs nothing at all to qualify for.

POPULAR — four campaigns at once, not one. The mall lists only Comic Carnival 6.0. POPULAR's own promotions page shows all of these running at every POPULAR and HARRIS store, Lot 3-38 on the 3rd floor included:

  • Super Holiday Promotion, 28 August to 16 September — up to 25 per cent off bestsellers, 20 per cent storewide for POPULAR Card members on showing the gift certificate in store or in the app, STAEDTLER LUNA permanent coloured pencils 136 24L at RM7.50 nett against RM15.80, up to 40 per cent off PWP items on a RM60 nett minimum spend, and a free gift with card application or renewal.
  • POPClub Promotion, 28 August to 27 September — in store and on POPULAR ONLINE.
  • Comic Carnival 6.0, 1 August to 30 September — 10 per cent rebate on selected comics, 10 per cent for selected school students on stationery, and a draw for ten book hampers worth RM1,000 in total on a RM50 nett spend on selected English or Malay comics.
  • Self-Help Promotion, 1 August to 30 September.

Students should also note Program Baucar Buku MADANI 2026, which POPULAR is honouring from 1 July to 31 October 2026 via MySiswaPlace and Kota Buku — that is a government book voucher, not a mall promotion, and it runs a month past everything else here.

The Sabah exclusion nobody flags

Sushi King is running a second September promotion that reads, in every aggregator write-up, as national: RM10 for a 100g portion of Australian Wagyu yakiniku, normal price RM24.90, on a RM50 minimum spend, 7 to 15 September 2026, one redemption per app member for the whole campaign. It is not available at Suria Sabah. Sushi King's own terms limit it to "participating West Malaysia and Langkawi Sushi King restaurants". Sabah is out.

The same East–West split runs quietly through the rest of the brand's pricing, and it is worth knowing before you sit down in Kota Kinabalu:

  • The plushie promotion's eligible sets differ by region. West Malaysia gets four — Beef Kalbi (currently with a free upgrade to premium Angus, limited sets), Chicken, Lamb Shoulder and Salmon. East Malaysia gets three: Beef Kalbi, Chicken and Salmon. No Lamb Shoulder, and the free Angus upgrade is printed on the West Malaysia line only. Since the Value Pack needs exactly four protein selections, a Kota Kinabalu table has to double up on one of the three — confirm at the table before you order.
  • The standing All-Day Value Meals are RM14.90 in West Malaysia and RM15.90 in East Malaysia; More to Satisfy is RM24.90 and RM25.90. Sabah pays RM1 more on both, every day of the year.
  • The members' Happy Hour — 20 per cent off all items, weekdays 3pm to 6pm, dine-in — has no regional carve-out and no published end date, so it is the reliable Sushi King discount in Kota Kinabalu. Both ordering and payment must complete inside the window.

Sports Direct: the deep cuts are online-only

Sports Direct Malaysia is still running "Celebrate Merdeka with up to 60% OFF" on its website, and the discounts there are far heavier than the in-store rebate at Lot 1-45. But every item on that rail carries two labels at once — MERDEKA PRICE and WEB EXCLUSIVE PRICE. Web-exclusive means online only. As of 3 September the rail included the Under Armour Charged Decoy men's running shoes at RM49 against RM329, the Asics GEL-Phoenix 12 at RM179 against RM399, the Nike Motiva women's walking shoes at RM199 against RM489 and the adidas Adizero SL2 at RM299 against RM499.

So there are two Sports Direct offers, they live in different places, and they do not stack: the RM31 and RM69 rebates are the in-store mechanic at Suria Sabah, and the 60-per-cent markdowns are a website mechanic you cannot walk in and claim. If a specific shoe is what you came for, price it online first.

Kidzooona: the one that outlasts everything

The best-documented offer in the building has nothing to do with Merdeka or Malaysia Day. Kidzooona on the 3rd floor has cut admission from 15 August to 15 October 2026: weekday RM28 against a normal RM35, weekend RM38 against a normal RM45. Both promotional and normal prices are printed on the brand's own poster, which is rarer than it should be — most offers in this building publish a discount with no baseline to check it against.

The happy hour flash deal is also still live — 20 per cent off any admission after 5pm on weekdays, with no published end date. What is still not published is whether that 20 per cent comes off the promotional RM28 or the normal RM35. If it comes off RM28, a weekday session after 5pm is RM22.40; if it comes off RM35, it lands at RM28 — exactly the same as walking in at 2pm. That is one question at the counter before you pay, and it is worth asking.

The 15th anniversary collect-and-redeem stamp card ended on 31 August and is off the listing. One thing to ignore on the way in: the mall's directory places Kidzooona at part of Lot 3-42A, 3-59 and 3-60 on the 3rd floor, while several third-party ticket and travel listings still show Lot 2-17 on the 2nd floor and quote admission prices that match neither the promotional nor the normal price. Go by the mall directory board.

Worked examples

  • A weekday afternoon with one child, 3rd floor only. Kidzooona at RM28 instead of RM35, then the POPULAR Bookfair on the same concourse — no minimum spend anywhere, RM7 saved on admission alone, and both are a lift ride apart.
  • The Thai Odyssey package, priced properly. A RM900 package carries a one-time 8 per cent SST, so RM972 leaves your account. Credited back are the RM900 of package value plus RM160 cashback — RM1,060 of spendable credit for RM972 paid, about RM88 ahead, or roughly 8.3 per cent off list once the tax is counted. Add 900 loyalty points, valid 12 months. It only works if you will genuinely use RM1,060 of massages inside a year, because extensions are strictly not allowed.
  • A Sports Direct restock in store. RM349 of Karrimor and Everlast comes down to RM280 with the RM69 rebate. Stop at RM340 and you get only the RM31 tier and a RM309 bill — so the last RM9 of spend saves you RM29.
  • One streetwear haul at DRUM. A RM320 basket takes RM57 off and lands at RM263. The same RM320 split across two RM160 visits takes RM16 twice, so RM32 — assuming the tiers are per receipt, which the poster does not confirm. Ask before you split.
  • Sushi King for four. The Yakiniku Value Pack's plushie is worth RM24.90 at the counter, so a table of four is bundling roughly RM25 of merchandise into a meal that is already priced before a 16.6 per cent service charge and tax load. Worth it if the child wanted the plushie; not a reason to choose the Value Pack over à la carte otherwise.

Who this is for, and who should skip

Go if you were already buying sportswear or streetwear before 6 and 16 September respectively, if you have a child to entertain, or if you have a bookfair habit — the 3rd floor is genuinely stacked this fortnight with the bookfair, POPULAR's four campaigns and Lea Centre's clearance within a hundred metres of each other. The Sports Direct and DRUM tiers reward one planned basket, not a wander.

Skip it if you are chasing a headline percentage. Lea Centre, JD Sports, POPClub and the Self-Help promotion publish no baseline price, so there is nothing to check the saving against. Skip it if you came for the Sushi King Wagyu deal, which does not run in Sabah. And skip the mall's own Offers and Events page as your only source — as of today it is showing four offers that ended up to a week ago.

Fine print that trips people up

  1. Four expired offers are still displayed on the mall's website — Kitchen Shop, Young Hearts, MUJI and Pandora. Read the dates in each caption, not the fact that it is still on the page.
  2. Sushi King's RM10 Wagyu promotion excludes East Malaysia. West Malaysia and Langkawi only, so it is not claimable at Suria Sabah.
  3. Sports Direct's in-store rebates carry minimum spends of RM169 and RM349 that the mall's caption still does not mention, and the site's deeper Merdeka discounts are web-exclusive and cannot be claimed in store.
  4. Thai Odyssey's RM69 pair offer ended on 31 August and has been replaced by the RM900 package promo. The brand's promotions page now reads "There will be no promotion at the moment" — the September offers sit on the Packages page instead.
  5. Thai Odyssey's RM49 Lunch Retreat is marked "selected outlets" on the brand's own packages page. It runs to 31 October, 12pm to 2pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays — call the Suria Sabah branch before you plan a lunch around it.
  6. Sushi King prices are before 10 per cent service charge and 6 per cent service tax, and East Malaysia pays RM1 more on both standing value-meal tiers.
  7. Kidzooona's 20 per cent happy hour has no published baseline. It may or may not stack with the RM28 promotional rate — ask at the counter.
  8. The phone number on Sports Direct's poster is an 03 Klang Valley line. That is the group's artwork, not the KK store's. Use the mall line, 088-487 087.

Getting there

Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, 1, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Pusat Bandar Kota Kinabalu, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Open daily 10am to 10pm. General line 088-487 087. If you are staying in the city centre it is walkable from most of the waterfront hotels, and Hotel7Suria sits in the same complex.

Parking is cashless and ticketless, 24 hours. You tap a card at the barrier on the way in and tap the same card on the way out, and the fee is charged to that card automatically — Visa, Mastercard, MyDebit and UnionPay are accepted, and there is no ticket to lose and no coin machine to queue at. The mall does not publish a rate card anywhere on its site, so budget by the hour rather than by a number you found online. Season card holders go to the 8th floor payment counter, and the car park hotline is 017 812 8299. Inside, the surau is on the 5th floor of the car park, ATMs are at the Lower Ground main entrance, and there are water refill stations from Lower Ground to Level 3 at Lift Lobby 2.
