A Deluxe Room with breakfast for two was RM667 a night including tax, against RM953.44 on the flexible rate, and the price was identical on Wednesday 7 October and Saturday 10 October. On top of the lower price you get RM50 of dining credit a day, check-in from 8am, check-out at 6pm and a free extra bed for a third guest.

What the Book Direct package actually is

G Hotel Gurney is the business and leisure hotel on Persiaran Gurney, beside Gurney Plaza and looking out over the Gurney Drive seafront. Its Book Direct Exclusive offer page lists four perks and one date: bookings and stays until 31 October 2026, direct bookings only.

On the booking engine, the package is not called "Book Direct". It sits under every room type as the Hot Deal rate, and opening the rate details shows the Book Direct terms word for word. The other option on each room is the Best Available Rate, and the gap between the two is a flat 30% on every room we checked.

What the Hot Deal rate gives you:

  • Early check-in from 8am and late check-out until 6pm, subject to availability, not on public holidays or the eve of one
  • RM50 dining credit per room, per day, usable at the hotel's outlets, non-accumulative
  • Free extra bed for the third guest, subject to availability
  • Free non-alcoholic minibar, bicycles, Wi-Fi and Pickle by the Sea gear rental

One detail worth knowing: the Best Available Rate also carries free early check-in and late check-out when booked direct. So choosing the dearer rate buys you nothing extra. The Hot Deal row is simply the better buy.

The rates we saw (1 night, 2 adults, tax included)

  • Deluxe, room only: RM627.76 on the Hot Deal vs RM896.80 flexible, saving RM269.04
  • Deluxe, with breakfast: RM667 vs RM953.44, saving RM286.44
  • Executive Room, with breakfast: RM768 vs RM1,097.40, saving RM329.40
  • Duplex, with breakfast: RM838 vs RM1,197.70, saving RM359.70
  • L-Suite, with breakfast: RM962 vs RM1,374.70, saving RM412.70
  • Executive Suite, with breakfast: RM1,115 vs RM1,593, saving RM478

Read on ghotel.com.my's booking engine on 28 September 2026 for 7 and 10 October; both dates returned the same prices. The quoted totals include roughly 8% tax. The RM3 per room per night Penang levy is collected at the hotel, and foreign guests pay a further RM10 Tourism Tax.

Note that breakfast for two on the Hot Deal costs just RM39.24 more than room only on the Deluxe. At that price, take it.

How to book it, step by step

  1. Go to ghotel.com.my, choose G Hotel Gurney (not G Hotel Kelawai, its sister property) and enter dates up to 31 October.
  2. Under your room type, pick the row labelled Hot Deal. Click "Rate Details" if you want to see the Book Direct terms before you commit.
  3. If a third person is coming, write it in Special Request. The hotel's terms ask for this, and the free extra bed is subject to availability.
  4. If you want the 8am arrival or 6pm departure, add that to the request too, then confirm by phone (+604 238 0000) a day or two before.

The Hot Deal rates we saw were marked cancellable, modifiable and pay later, so there is no deposit risk in booking early and adjusting later.

Worked examples

A couple on a weeknight, Deluxe with breakfast. RM667 plus the RM3 levy is RM670. If the 8am check-in and 6pm check-out both come through, that is 34 hours in the room for one night's price. The RM50 credit covers most of a weekday Mini Buffet Lunch at Café 168 (RM60 nett per person), so one of you eats lunch for RM10.

Three adults sharing, Deluxe with breakfast. Still RM670 with the levy, because the third guest's bed is free. That works out to about RM223 each. The package does not say the third guest's breakfast is included, so ask when you book.

Two nights in an Executive Room, Friday and Saturday. 2 x RM768 = RM1,536, plus RM6 in levies, is RM1,542. The same two nights on the flexible rate come to RM2,200.80, so the package saves RM658.80, before counting RM50 of dining credit on each day of your stay.

Four adults at the Friday or Saturday seafood buffet. Café 168's Let's Meat & Sea dinner is RM188 nett per adult with buy 3 free 1, so four adults pay RM564, or RM514 after one day's credit. The hotel's September edition page is labelled Jul-Sep 2026, so confirm the October buffet is running before planning around it.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits Klang Valley and Singapore visitors who fly or drive in on an early morning and want the room at 8am, families of three who would otherwise pay for a second room or an extra bed, and anyone who likes Gurney Drive for hawker food and malls on foot.

Skip it if you want a beach resort, which means Batu Ferringhi, or a heritage shophouse stay in the core of George Town, which is a short Grab ride away. Budget travellers will also find cheaper rooms nearby. This is a mid-to-upper price hotel sold at a fair discount, not a bargain-basement rate.

The fine print that trips people up

  • Early check-in and late check-out are not guaranteed. They depend on availability and do not apply on public holidays or their eves.
  • The RM50 credit resets daily. Unused credit does not roll over, and it is per room, not per guest.
  • Direct bookings only. The same room on a travel app will not carry these perks.
  • The window closes on 31 October for both booking and stay. A stay on 1 November does not qualify, even if you book in October.
