We read Jaya Grocer's pre-order site and its product listings on 18 October 2026, and checked the session dates and normal prices against the supermarket's official Facebook post of 16 October. The crab weights below come from Jaya Grocer's own product images.
The two sets
- Quadruple: RM268 (normally RM288). Two female crabs of 150g and two male crabs of 175g, so RM67.00 a crab.
- Half Dozen: RM388 (normally RM408). Three female crabs of 150g and three male crabs of 175g, so about RM64.67 a crab.
Both sets include one 128ml bottle of hairy crab vinegar, one crab tool set and ginger strips. The six-crab set is the better buy per crab, and works out to about RM39.79 per 100g of crab against RM41.23 for the four-crab set.
How the pre-order works
- Pick your round. Session 1 takes orders from 16 to 18 October (cut-off 10pm) for collection on 23, 24 or 25 October. Session 2 takes orders from 23 to 25 October for collection from 30 October to 1 November.
- Choose your outlet first. On preorder.jayagrocer.com you select a pickup store, then see the sets and dates allocated to it. Each outlet has its own stock, so if one is sold out, try a nearby branch.
- Pay in full online. There is no deposit option and no paying at the counter.
- Pick a collection date. Pickup slots for session 1 run from 12pm to 9pm daily.
- Show your confirmation email at the outlet's seafood counter to collect.
The 15 pickup outlets are Pearl Point, The Gardens Mall, Empire Subang, The Starling Uptown, Mutiara Tropicana, Eco Sanctuary, Quayside Mall, Lalaport, 1 Utama, IOI Rio Puchong, Sunway Pyramid, Senada KLGCC, The Tropika Bukit Jalil, Eco Ardence and Emerald Central Rawang.
Worked examples
- A dinner for four: one Quadruple set at RM268 gives each person one crab, two with roe and two with milt, for RM67 a head.
- A family of six: one Half Dozen set at RM388 is about RM64.67 a person, and you save RM20 against the normal RM408.
- Eight crab lovers: two Quadruple sets cost RM536. A Half Dozen plus a Quadruple gives you ten crabs for RM656, which covers seconds for the two biggest fans.
Hairy crab is rich, so most people stop at one or two. Plan other dishes around it rather than ordering a crab per person per course.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
It suits Klang Valley households who want a hairy crab dinner at home without paying restaurant set-menu prices, and anyone who likes the old saying that female crabs are at their best in the ninth lunar month and males in the tenth. Each set has both, so you can compare the roe and the milt side by side.
Skip it if you live outside KL and Selangor, since there is no delivery and every pickup outlet is in the Klang Valley. It is also a poor fit if you cannot commit to a collection date a week ahead, because live crabs do not keep long.
Fine print that trips people up
- The RM20 saving is modest. The real value is a guaranteed allocation with set weights, not a big discount.
- Roe or milt guarantee. Jaya Grocer offers a 1-to-1 replacement if a crab has no roe or milt. The site does not say how to claim it, so check the crabs at the counter if you can, and keep your confirmation email.
- Collect on your date. Pickup is in-store only. Cook the crabs the same day or the next; most cooks steam them belly-up and keep them chilled under a damp cloth until then.
- While stocks last. Each outlet has a fixed allocation, and T&Cs apply.
