> Quick view: Segi Fresh opens its Taman Kawan branch in Bidor on Saturday 26 September 2026. For nine days, the first 100 members each day who spend RM39 in one receipt take home a free item, starting with a whole fresh chicken. There are also opening prices, two small games and a stamp card that keeps going until 25 October.

Segi Fresh is the fresh mart chain behind the green-and-yellow "Top 1 Fresh Mart" signs, and its posters cite the Malaysia Book of Records for having the most fresh mart branches in the country. Even so, a new branch in a town the size of Bidor gets a full nine-day opening campaign rather than a ribbon and a banner, and most of it is aimed at people who will shop there every week. Everything below comes from the five posters on Segi Fresh's own Facebook announcement for the Bidor opening.

The free item for each day

This is the headline deal, and it's the one worth planning around. Each day has one free item, and you qualify if you are a Segi Fresh member, spend at least RM39 in a single receipt, and are among the first 100 members that day. Each member can take one item only.

  • Sat 26 and Sun 27 Sep: a whole fresh chicken (ayam segar, seekor)
  • Mon 28 Sep: Milo 900g
  • Tue 29 Sep: a whole watermelon
  • Wed 30 Sep: a tray of 30 eggs
  • Thu 1 Oct: a whole siakap (seabass)
  • Fri 2 Oct: Jasmine Super Imported Thai rice, 5kg
  • Sat 3 and Sun 4 Oct: a whole fresh chicken again

On top of that, members get one free Tropicana Twister 1L with any purchase. The poster sets no minimum spend for this one.

The best days on paper are 30 September (a full tray of eggs) and 2 October (5kg of rice). Both are items a family buys every week anyway, so the RM39 spend isn't forced. The two weekends bring the chicken, and they will also bring the biggest crowds, so 100 members may go quickly on the Saturdays.

Opening prices: "Wow Hebat"

Two more posters list opening prices for the same nine days. Some prices change every three days, and the posters say each customer can buy up to 3 units (or 3kg) of each item.

  • 26 to 28 Sep: Saba mackerel AAA RM6.99 a pack, tomatoes RM3.99/kg, red onions RM1.99/kg, Labour cooking oil 5kg RM26.99, Ramly chicken nuggets 1kg RM15.99, Top liquid detergent 3.6kg RM16.99.
  • 29 Sep to 1 Oct: cucumbers RM1.99/kg, Red Globe grapes RM5.99/kg, potatoes RM1.00/kg, Gold Coin creamer 500g RM2.59, two 1.5L bottles of 100 Plus for RM5.00, Daun Pandan white rice 5kg RM12.99.
  • 2 to 4 Oct: broccoli RM1.99 each, guava RM4.99/kg, garlic RM4.99/kg, Maggi Kari 5-pack RM3.89, MFM Roses all-purpose flour 850g RM1.99, Zip dishwashing liquid 1.8kg RM6.99.
  • All nine days: Jati Padi Gold imported rice 10kg RM28.99, Anchor wheat flour 1kg RM2.49, Mi Sedaap Goreng 5-pack RM3.99, Goodday full cream milk 1L RM5.99, BOH tea dust 250g RM6.99, Daia softener 1.4L RM5.99, Breeze powder RM11.90.

The games and the stamp card

  • Kotak Misteri Fresh (Mystery Box): spend RM30 in one receipt, put your hand in the box, and guess the fresh item you're touching. Guess right and you win a Segi Fresh voucher. The poster doesn't give the voucher amount.
  • Lontaran Bertuah (Lucky Throw): spend RM50 and throw a ball at a target mat for a prize. Prizes aren't listed, and "the game's decision is final".
  • Kumpul & Tebus (Collect & Redeem), 26 Sep to 25 Oct: members earn one stamp for a purchase of at least RM50, then trade stamps for free items: potatoes 1.5kg (3 stamps), red onions 1.5kg (5), 30 eggs (10), a whole chicken (15) or Jasmine Super 5kg rice (20).

Worked examples

A RM52 Saturday shop on 26 September. If you're early enough to be in the first 100, a RM52 basket clears every bar on day one: the free chicken (RM39), the Mystery Box (RM30), the Lucky Throw (RM50) and your first stamp (RM50). The Twister comes with any purchase. That is the most you can get from one receipt all week.

Using the opening prices to reach RM39. Labour oil 5kg (RM26.99) plus a Jati 10kg rice (RM28.99) is RM55.98 on its own. Pantry staples you need anyway are the honest way to hit the threshold, rather than filling the trolley with things you wouldn't buy.

What the stamp card really costs. The poster doesn't say bigger receipts earn more stamps, so read it as one stamp per RM50 receipt. Three weekly RM50 shops get you 1.5kg of potatoes, which at the opening price of RM1.00/kg is worth about RM1.50. Ten trips in a month earns a tray of eggs. The 20-stamp rice needs 20 separate RM50 visits in 30 days, which is realistic only for a small eatery buying daily. For most households, the stamp card is a small bonus, not a reason to shop.

Who it's good for, and who should skip it

Good for: households in Bidor, Taman Kawan and the nearby estates who already shop weekly, and anyone from Tapah or Sungkai doing a big stock-up on a weekend anyway. If you're in the Bidor area, the 30 September eggs and 2 October rice days are the ones to aim for.

Skip it if: you'd drive in from further away just for a free chicken. Bidor is about an hour south of Ipoh, and the round trip eats most of what a free chicken is worth. It isn't worth much to non-members who won't install another app either, since all the freebies are members only.

Fine print that trips people up

  • First 100 members, per day. Arrive after the 100th member and the daily item is gone, even if you spend RM39. Segi Fresh hasn't published opening hours for the new branch, so turning up early on the weekends is the safest plan.
  • RM39 must be one receipt. Two RM20 baskets don't count.
  • One free item per member. Families can't stack by using one membership.
  • Unit caps on opening prices. Up to 3 units or 3kg of each advertised item per customer.
  • Everything is "subject to terms and conditions", and Segi Fresh hasn't published the full terms online. Check the counter before building a big plan around the stamp card.
  • Membership is free. Download the Segi Fresh Members app from the App Store or Google Play and sign up before you queue, so you aren't registering at the till.

Getting there

The new branch is at No. 8, 9, 10 & 10a, Jalan Sungkai, Taman Kawan, 35500 Bidor, Perak, a short drive from the Bidor exit on the North-South Expressway.
