Birthday freebies at KL attractions usually come with a long list of conditions, and this one is no different. What makes it worth a closer look is that Aquaria KLCC has published a four-page terms and FAQ document for it, and a few of the rules change who actually benefits. We read the whole thing and checked the aquarium's online ticket store on 13 September 2026 so you know what you are saving.

How the birthday promotion works

According to Aquaria KLCC's own terms, the offer runs from 1 September to 31 October 2026 and is built around a simple swap: one person pays, the birthday person does not.

  1. Go on a regular weekday (Monday to Friday) in your birthday month. September birthdays can only use it in September, October birthdays only in October.
  2. Join the walk-in queue at the entrance and scan the QR code displayed there to register for the promotion.
  3. At the ticketing counter, the birthday person shows their original identification document.
  4. The person accompanying them buys at least one full-paying adult walk-in ticket. Anyone else in your group buys their own walk-in tickets as normal.
  5. The birthday person and their companion enter the aquarium together.

You cannot reserve a slot in advance for this offer, and tickets bought online do not qualify, even for the companion.

What you actually save

The aquarium did not publish its walk-in counter prices online, so we used its online ticket store as a yardstick. On 13 September, for a weekday visit, MyKad holders were charged RM56 for an adult and RM46 for a child aged 3 to 12. The weekend and public holiday adult price for MyKad holders was RM60. Visitors without a MyKad paid RM82 for an adult and RM72 for a child on weekdays. Counter prices may differ, so bring a little buffer.

A September birthday, a Malaysian couple. Your partner buys one adult walk-in ticket and you walk in free. At the online weekday rate that is one RM56 ticket instead of two, so about RM56 saved.

A family of four with a child turning eight in October. Both parents and the younger sibling pay, and the birthday child enters free on their MyKid. Using the online weekday rates, that is RM56 plus RM56 plus RM46, or RM158, instead of RM204. The saving is RM46, the price of the child ticket.

An expat on an Employment Pass with an October birthday. EP holders are named as eligible, and a friend buying the adult walk-in ticket gets them in free. Against the RM82 online weekday price for non-MyKad adults, this is the biggest saving of the three.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits anyone who can take a weekday off, parents during the September school holidays (the FAQ confirms school holiday weekdays count, as long as it is your birthday month), and retirees or shift workers with free weekday mornings. Monday and Wednesday are the best days to go: the aquarium's feeding schedule lists the arapaima feed in the Flooded Forest at 2.30pm and the sand tiger shark feed at the Aquatheatre at 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays only.

Skip it if you can only visit on a weekend. The offer does not apply on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays, and there is no workaround.

Skip it if you are a tourist or on a student pass. The terms limit it to MyKad or MyKid holders, red IC holders, and valid Spouse Visa and Employment Pass holders. Holders of other documents, including foreigners on other passes, are not eligible.

Skip it if you were planning to go alone. The birthday person cannot enter free without a paying adult alongside.

The fine print that trips people up

  • Original documents only. Photocopies, digital copies and screenshots of your IC are refused, and without the original you get no free entry (you can still buy a normal ticket).
  • Public holidays on a weekday are excluded. Malaysia Day falls on Wednesday 16 September this year, so do not plan a September visit that day.
  • It cannot be combined with any other discount, promotion, online package or voucher. If you hold a discount card or pass that normally gives you a percentage off admission, you cannot stack it on this.
  • One redemption per birthday person per ID for the whole campaign, so you cannot come back a second time in October.
  • The free admission and paid tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
  • The aquarium itself warns of large crowds. Allow extra time for the QR registration and ID check, especially on school holiday weekdays.

Planning the visit

Aquaria KLCC sits beneath the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a short walk from the Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC. It is open daily from 10am to 8pm, with last entry at 7pm. Beyond the two shark and arapaima feeds, daily feeding sessions include the otters at The Stream (11.15am and 4.30pm) and the jellyfish and seahorses at Station Aquarius (12.15pm and 3.15pm). Arriving before noon on a weekday gives you the shortest queue and most of the feeds.
