Badminton in Kota Kinabalu costs a little more than in Kuching: every hall we could verify charges between RM18 and RM40 an hour. The bigger problem in KK is finding the price at all. The City Hall (DBKK) community halls, the Tun Adnan complex and several private halls take bookings through GoNet, a booking app, or over WhatsApp, and do not put a rate on any public web page. DBKK's old rate page now returns an error.
So this list is shorter than our other city editions on purpose. We read every rate below on the hall's own channel on 19 October 2026: the live pricing pop-up on Olympia's Courtsite page (its server-rendered text still shows older, lower prices), the rate cards on ii Sports Centre's and Juara's AFA Sports pages, and Yayasan Sabah Group's own facilities page. Two more halls are listed without a price because they publish none.

How to choose a court in KK
Decide wooden or rubber. Olympia is the only hall here that sells both, and the difference is RM6 an hour: RM22 for its suspended timber (parquet) courts against RM28 for rubber. Timber is kinder on knees; rubberised mats give more grip. The other halls we priced use rubber or PVC flooring.
Check when the evening rate starts. Olympia adds RM2 an hour from 6pm. ii Sports Centre switches to a compulsory 2-hour prime-time block (RM60) from 6pm or 7pm depending on the court group. Juara and Tun Adnan charge the same all day, which makes them the easier choice for a group that only plays after work.
Look for SST. ii Sports Centre's rate card is quoted before 6% SST. The others we priced show no SST line.
Read the refund rules before you pay. Olympia's Courtsite listing says no refunds, no rescheduling and no carry-forward. Juara's AFA page says the same. ii Sports refunds app bookings in full more than 48 hours ahead and 50% between 24 and 48 hours, but only into the AFA wallet, and bookings made on the website cannot be cancelled.
Expect fans, not aircond. None of the halls we priced states that the playing hall is air-conditioned. KK's big halls are mostly high-roofed sheds, so bring a towel for evening sessions.
What a game actually costs
For a typical two-hour doubles booking on a weekday evening, split four ways:
- Tun Adnan Sports Complex: RM36 total, about RM9 each
- Olympia, wooden court: RM48 total, RM12 each
- Juara, Putatan: RM60 total, RM15 each
- Olympia, rubber court: RM60 total, RM15 each
- ii Sports Centre, prime time: RM60 plus RM3.60 SST, about RM15.90 each
For a weekly group the spread between the cheapest and the dearest is about RM28 a session, or more than RM1,400 over a year. Tun Adnan is the cheapest but has only 4 courts, so popular evening slots go fast.
Halls that only quote in the app
If you live near Damai, Luyang, Menggatal or another DBKK community hall, the council's own courts are worth checking because they are close to home, but you will need the GoNet app to see the price and book. The same applies to Top Ace in Menggatal and, for now, the newer Ace Arena in Tuaran. We list those two below without a price rather than repeat a figure we could not read on an official channel.
How to pick
Start with location, because KK traffic on Jalan Tuaran and the Putatan side settles more decisions than RM2. Then match the hall to your group: Olympia if you want a guaranteed court late (it runs to 1am) or prefer timber, ii Sports for cheap weekday afternoons and a big floor, Juara for a flat price with no evening surcharge, and Tun Adnan if you can book early and want the lowest bill. Whatever you choose, book only the hours you will actually use, because most halls will not give the money back.
