Badminton in Kuching is cheap by Klang Valley standards, and the rates bunch closely: every public hall we could verify charges between RM8 and RM25 an hour. What separates them is less the headline price than when the evening rate starts, because that is exactly when most office workers want to play. One hall switches at 5pm, another at 6pm, another at 7pm, and one drops back to its day rate after 10pm.

We read every rate below on the hall's own channel on 3 October 2026: the slot prices inside Arena Sukan's and 7 Stone's own booking engines (checked for Tuesday 6 October and Saturday 10 October), the live pricing panel on PBBS's Courtsite page, and the rate table on Sentosa Sports Centre's WeSport listing. Rates move, so check the booking screen before you pay.

How to choose a court in Kuching

Work out when you actually play. A Tuesday 6pm game costs RM15 at PBBS but RM25 at Arena Sukan. A Tuesday 4pm game costs RM20 at Arena Sukan and RM15 at 7 Stone. Pick by the hour you book, not the lowest number on the poster.

Check the floor. Arena Sukan advertises Herculan rubberised sports flooring and 7 Stone says its courts are fully carpeted. Some older halls around town still have cement courts, which are harder on knees and less forgiving on shuttles.

Mind the booking rules. Online systems let you pick a court and pay without a phone call, but read the cancellation terms. PBBS's Courtsite listing says there are no refunds, and a time change needs 24 hours' notice and can be made only once.

Ask about aircond. None of the four halls with verified rates states on its own page that the playing hall is air-conditioned. 7 Stone mentions "excellent ventilation". Kuching evenings are humid, so ask before you book a long session.

Weekend and public holiday rates can differ. Sentosa's rate table notes that prices vary on holidays. Arena Sukan charged a flat RM20 at both 10am and 8pm on the Saturday we checked, cheaper than its own weekday evening.

What a game actually costs

For a typical two-hour doubles booking on a weekday evening split four ways:

  • Sentosa Sports Centre: RM24 total, about RM6 each
  • PBBS hall, Petra Jaya: RM30 total, about RM7.50 each
  • 7 Stone, from 7pm: RM40 total, RM10 each
  • Arena Sukan, from 5pm: RM50 total, about RM12.50 each

The gap is real money for a weekly group (RM26 a session between the cheapest and dearest, or more than RM1,300 over a year of weekly games) but each hall is in a different part of town. Travel time often settles it.

Other halls we could not price

Several other Kuching halls are open but publish no rate on any official channel we could find, so they are not ranked above: Dewan Badminton Stapok (Jalan Ensing, Taman Stapok, 016-886 8595), Hero Badminton Court (Lorong Foochow 1Y, 016-411 9228), Stampark Badminton Hall in Taman BDC, Winner Court on Jalan Burung Lilin, and Super Sport Arena in Samarahan. Call them for a rate before you go. State-run courts at the Sarawak Sports Corporation's Indoor Stadium and Stadium Perpaduan are booked through its EBMS system with a SarawakPass login; it does not show a public rate.

How to pick

  • Cheapest per head: Sentosa Sports Centre, if Kota Sentosa is on your way home.
  • Cheapest in town after 5pm: PBBS in Petra Jaya at RM15, or RM10 if you can play from 10pm.
  • Students on weekday afternoons: 7 Stone at RM12 with a card.
  • Central location with in-house coaching: Arena Sukan, where a trial class costs RM25.
  • Club members: Sarawak Club courts are free on weekday daytimes.
