Putrajaya's Government-and-Lake Hotel Belt Was Built for MICE

Putrajaya was master-planned from scratch as Malaysia's federal administrative capital starting in the 1990s, and that planning shows up directly in its events infrastructure. The Putrajaya International Convention Centre sits deliberately on the highest point in the city, and most of the hotels that opened around Putrajaya Lake afterwards — in Presint 1, 3 and 5 — were built with a ballroom or meeting wing included from day one, because government functions, civil-service conferences and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) business were part of the original brief.

We checked each venue below against its own official site this run, cross-referencing addresses, current operating status and any rebrand history. A few names that circulate online for "Putrajaya event spaces" didn't hold up — see the What We Left Out section for specifics, including one hotel that no longer exists under the name people still search for.

The 8 Venues

1. Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) — Presint 5

Sitting on Putrajaya's highest peak in Presint 5, PICC is the anchor MICE venue for the entire city and one of the largest convention centres in Malaysia, covering roughly 135,000 sqm (1.3 million sq ft) across nine levels. It comprises 49 discrete venues in total — a Plenary Hall seating up to 3,000 delegates, the Perdana Hall banquet space for up to 2,500 guests, two multipurpose halls, ten conference halls, four dedicated meeting rooms, exhibition space for 500 booths, three viewing decks and 14 suites. Facilities include wireless simultaneous interpretation, video conferencing, a holographic rear-projection system and 1,200 basement parking bays. Construction ran from 2001–2003, and the centre — originally opened as the Putrajaya Convention Centre — was renamed to its current, internationally-styled name in October 2004. It remains the default choice for national-scale conferences, exhibitions and government events in Putrajaya.

PICC also runs a public online booking system at booking.picc.com.my, and it is the clearest look outsiders get at the inventory: enter a date and a headcount and it returns 18 bookable spaces with a stated capacity for every seating layout. Perdana Hall takes 2,800 theatre-style, 2,500 on banquet rounds or 4,000 standing for cocktails; Perdana Hall A and B each carry about half of that. Plenary Hall is theatre-only, at 3,000. Putra Hall A and Putra Hall B hold 2,000 each and subdivide into A1, A2, B1 and B2 at 1,000 apiece, with exhibition-layout figures attached too. The Head of States room runs 250 theatre-style, 180 boardroom, 150 classroom or 300 for cocktails. Smaller options include the Garden, the Blue Zone and Green Zone foyers and the two VIP lounges at 500 each, Asian Cafe at 800, and an Outside Catering Services listing rated for 8,000. What the system never shows, at any of its six steps, is a price: it collects your dates and layout and routes the enquiry to the sales team.

2. DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside — Presint 5

This 290-room lakeside hotel at 2 Jalan P5/5, Presint 5, is worth a name-check for anyone who remembers it as Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside — it operated under Accor's Pullman brand for years before reopening under Hilton management as DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside on 4 October 2021, marking the DoubleTree brand's Malaysia debut. Its MICE offering spans roughly 5,597 sqm across 22 dedicated meeting spaces, headlined by the pillarless Kenyir Grand Ballroom (about 510 sqm, fitted with an LED screen and computerised lighting) plus a 240-seat lakefront open-air amphitheatre for outdoor sessions or receptions. Every meeting room comes with an LCD projector, wired and Wi-Fi internet, video/teleconferencing and a dedicated Event Manager.

3. Marina Putrajaya — Presint 5

The one genuinely independent, non-hotel venue on this list, and the only one in this guide that prints a full rate card on its own website. Marina Putrajaya sits at No. 1 Jalan P5/5, Presint 5, right on the lake. Its Hall Rental page lists three indoor spaces and its Nakhoda Room page a fourth, every one priced by half day or full day, with separate weekday and weekend rates:

  • Armada Hall — 200 guests round-table, 250 theatre-style, 90 classroom-style. RM5,000 half day / RM7,500 full day Monday to Thursday; RM6,000 / RM8,500 Friday to Sunday and public holidays. Two large screens and a projector are included in the rental; adding the foyer costs RM700 more.
  • Laksamana Lounge — 50 round-table, 70 theatre, 30 classroom, pitched at meetings, seminars and forums. RM2,500 / RM4,000 Monday to Thursday; RM3,500 / RM5,000 Friday to Sunday and public holidays.
  • Commodore Room — solemnisations, press conferences and small gatherings, and the room the venue uses as a VIP holding area for larger Armada Hall functions. RM1,500 / RM1,800 Monday to Thursday; RM2,500 / RM4,000 Friday to Sunday and public holidays.
  • Nakhoda Room — a 15-seat meeting room with a lake view, projector and PA system. RM1,000 / RM1,500 Monday to Thursday; RM2,000 / RM3,500 Friday to Sunday and public holidays.

Outdoors, four lakeside "laman" gardens are bookable by the day. Laman Indera Kayangan is the big one, rated for dining up to 1,000 guests, at RM4,500 a day Monday to Thursday and RM6,000 Friday to Sunday and public holidays. Laman Indera Sari and Laman Indera Loka each seat up to 200 diners at RM2,500 and RM4,000 on the same split. Laman Indera Kencana is the cheapest space on the whole card at RM800 half day, RM1,000 full day. Every laman rental includes utilities, public amenities, parking at the Plaza and Level B2, and two distribution-board units.

Two things to know before you ring. First, the venue is run by the same operator as Cruise Tasik Putrajaya, and the Balinese-style Indus Putrajaya restaurant sits in the same complex, so catering can come from a tenant on site. Second, the Seminar and Wedding package pages on the same website still carry December 2018 to March 2019 validity dates and are flagged "Ended" — the hall and laman rates above are the only current published figures, so ask the sales line on 03-8881 0648 whether any package is running.

4. The Everly Putrajaya — Precinct 1

Opened in 2013 at No. 1 Jalan Alamanda 2, Precinct 1, The Everly connects directly to Alamanda Shopping Centre via a covered walkway, making it one of the more walkable event options in the city if guests need retail or food options nearby. Its pillarless Mesmera Ballroom is the main function space, seating up to 1,800 guests banquet-style or 1,000 for a standing reception, with a pre-function area, flexible breakout rooms and in-house AV. It's a common pick for both corporate conferences and weddings that want Precinct 1's proximity to Putrajaya Lake and the Millennium Monument.

5. Pulse Grande Hotel — Precinct 1

Set inside the landscaped grounds of Taman Putra Perdana in Precinct 1, this 118-room boutique property opened in 2003 under Shangri-La management; that contract ended in December 2017, and the hotel relaunched independently as Pulse Grande Hotel on 1 January 2018 — the first property under the Pulse Grande Hotel Group brand — while keeping its long-running tagline, "a Hotel in a Park and a Park in a Hotel." Its events offering leans on a 24-hour business centre with dedicated meeting rooms plus indoor spaces that open onto the hotel's own garden lawns, making it a genuinely different setting from the lakeside convention-hotel cluster in Presint 5 — better suited to smaller, more intimate corporate off-sites, garden receptions or product launches than a mass-capacity conference.

6. Dorsett Putrajaya — Precinct 3

Dorsett Putrajaya sits in Precinct 3, a short distance from the Presint 5 hotel row, and its MICE space centres on the pillarless Satria Ballroom on Level 3 — dividable into up to four separate function rooms, with a theatre-style capacity of around 350 guests, roughly 250 for a banquet layout, and roughly 200 classroom-style. Separately, the Makmur Room on Level 1 can hold up to 450 delegates conference-style on its own, making it one of the larger single meeting rooms in the city outside PICC. The hotel puts its total at 880 sqm of convertible function space, and its own events page lists a fourth room, Ceria, alongside Satria Ballroom, Satria 1 and Makmur — useful if your breakout needs a room smaller than a quarter-ballroom. The hotel is also known locally for its rooftop Sky Pool overlooking the lake, which is sometimes used for smaller receptions and networking events.

7. Putrajaya Marriott Hotel — IOI Resort City

Set within IOI Resort City, alongside a 27-hole championship golf course, this full-service Marriott's MICE space is built around a pillarless Grand Ballroom of roughly 18,648 sq ft — pillar-free, so it seats up to 2,300 guests theatre-style or 1,200 for a banquet — plus a separate Garden Ballroom aimed at outdoor-style weddings and receptions amid the hotel's landscaped grounds. Total meeting space across the property runs to about 39,816 sq ft. Its postal address reads "62502 Putrajaya," though the immediate IOI Resort City area is sometimes categorised administratively closer to Sepang than central Putrajaya — see the note below on that boundary.

8. Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel — IOI Resort City

The second IOI Resort City property on this list, this Marriott Tribute Portfolio boutique hotel runs 11 event halls in total, more than 22,000 sq ft of flexible indoor meeting space, and a pillarless Rafflesia Ballroom featuring a raindrop-inspired chandelier and built-in stage, with a theatre-style capacity in the low hundreds depending on layout (sources vary between roughly 300 and 500, so confirm your exact configuration with the hotel). For smaller or more casual functions, the garden and poolside area can host up to about 100 guests outdoors — a genuinely different feel from the ballroom-only options elsewhere on this list.

Is IOI Resort City Really "Putrajaya"?

Worth being upfront about: Putrajaya Marriott Hotel and Palm Garden Hotel both sit inside IOI Resort City, an integrated township that some directories (and Malaysia's own postal/administrative listings) place closer to Sepang Utara than central Putrajaya, even though both hotels use "Putrajaya" in their names and carry a 62502 Putrajaya postal address. This is the same boundary ambiguity that applies to IOI City Mall next door. We've kept both hotels on this list because they're genuinely marketed and used as Putrajaya event venues, sit within a few minutes of the Presint 5 hotel row, and are already treated as Putrajaya properties elsewhere on this site — but if "strictly within Putrajaya's federal territory boundary" matters for your booking, the six Presint 1/3/5 venues above that distinction more cleanly.

What We Left Out

  • Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside — not a separate venue. This property rebranded to DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside in October 2021; listing both would have double-counted the same building.
  • "IDCC Putrajaya" — a name that sometimes gets attached to Putrajaya MICE round-ups, but our searches only turned up a real Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam, a different city. We're not including a venue we couldn't independently verify exists under that name in Putrajaya.
  • Le Méridien Putrajaya — a real, currently operating hotel with its own Millennium Grand Ballroom (up to 900 guests), also inside the IOI Resort City / IRC cluster alongside Marriott and Palm Garden. We left it out to avoid three near-identical entries from the same hotel row when six other venues already cover more geographic and format variety.
  • Mercure Living Putrajaya — a genuine, currently operating Precinct 1 property, but it's a serviced-apartment concept built around kitchens and long stays, not a dedicated function-room or ballroom venue.
  • A hotel sometimes referenced online as "Bunga Raya Putrajaya" did not check out as a real, currently operating Putrajaya property and has been excluded.

Pricing, Honestly

One venue in eight publishes a rate card. That is the single most useful thing to know before you start ringing round.

Marina Putrajaya is the benchmark. Its published rates run from RM800 for a half day in Laman Indera Kencana to RM8,500 for a full weekend day in Armada Hall, with the indoor halls landing at RM1,500 to RM8,500 and the outdoor laman gardens at RM800 to RM6,000. Every rate splits Monday-to-Thursday from Friday-to-Sunday-and-public-holidays, and the weekend premium is real: Armada Hall costs RM1,000 more on a Saturday than on a Tuesday for the same full day, and the Nakhoda meeting room more than doubles, from RM1,500 to RM3,500. If you can hold your event midweek, that is the cheapest lever on this whole list.

Everything else is quote-only. PICC, DoubleTree, The Everly, Pulse Grande, Dorsett, Marriott and Palm Garden all price function space against date, guest count, catering package and season, and none of the seven had a standing public rate card as of this run. PICC goes furthest of the seven — its online booking system will tell you exactly which of 18 spaces is free on your date and how many people each layout seats — and still shows no number. Hotel ballroom quotes in this class are usually built as a per-person food-and-beverage minimum with the room thrown in, rather than a room rental, so ask for the quote that way: how many guests, what package, and whether the ballroom rental is waived at that headcount.

Two numbers that are not prices. Every capacity figure in this article is a venue-stated maximum occupancy, not a guarantee that your layout fits, and square-metre figures describe the shell, not the usable floor once a stage and buffet lines go in. Confirm both, and current availability, with each venue's events team before you commit.
