Putrajaya, not Cyberjaya

Putrajaya, Malaysia's purpose-built federal administrative capital, sits directly next to Cyberjaya, and the two get mixed up constantly in online restaurant round-ups. Every restaurant below was checked and confirmed as physically sitting within a numbered Putrajaya precinct. IOI City Mall, despite often appearing in "Putrajaya" round-ups, is left out for the same reason: it sits in Sepang, Selangor.

This list was re-checked in September 2026, and two well-known names have moved. Umai Cafe left Presint 2 for the Kompleks Sukan Air in Presint 6 in June 2024. Balqis Restaurant left its lakefront unit at Promenade 8 for Shaftsbury Avenue in Presint 1. Many map pins and directories still show the old addresses, so use the ones below.

How to choose: hotel buffet, lakeside cafe or precinct meal

Putrajaya dining splits cleanly into three tiers, and knowing which one you're after saves a wasted drive.

  • Hotel buffets — Makan Kitchen at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside (Presint 5) and Citra Rasa at Dorsett Putrajaya (Precinct 3). This is why most out-of-towners drive in: air-conditioned, priced per head, and worth booking ahead on weekends.
  • Lakeside cafes — Indus at Marina Putrajaya and Umai Cafe at the Water Sports Complex. You trade the buffet spread for a view and a much lower spend, and they're worth timing for late afternoon.
  • Precinct meals — Padi House, Balqis, Cili Kampung and Putrajaya Seafood. These feed civil servants, mall traffic and family groups. Padi House near the government offices is busiest from roughly 12pm to 2pm on weekdays.

What a meal actually costs

Prices below come from each operator's own booking page, website or social posts, checked during this update.

  • Makan Kitchen (top end): the lunch buffet is RM98 nett per adult, dinner and the Sunday high tea are RM118 nett, and the weekend Tribute to Malaysian Heritage dinner is RM148 nett until 26 September 2026. Children are roughly half price, and Hilton Honors members get 10% off at Base/Silver or 25% off at Gold/Diamond.
  • Worked example: two adults and two children at the Sunday high tea pay RM354 nett (2 × RM118 + 2 × RM59). Gold members would pay about RM265.50 after 25% off.
  • Citra Rasa (cheaper hotel option): à la carte from RM15 nett, a Weekend Buffet Hi-Tea at RM88 nett per adult (RM48 child, RM58 senior), and a Fusion Afternoon Tea Set at RM98 nett for two.
  • Indus: the Tuesday–Friday Express Lunch Buffet is RM36+ per adult and RM25+ per child, and the afternoon tea set is RM43+.
  • Cili Kampung: kampung mains are built for sharing. Sambal Petai Prawn is RM65, before a 10% service charge and 6% SST.
  • Umai Cafe and Balqis: Umai stays mostly under RM20 a head, and Balqis runs about RM20–40.

Timing your visit

Most closures fall on a Monday: Indus and Umai Cafe both shut that day. Putrajaya Seafood Restaurant closes between 2:30pm and 6pm, so it doesn't suit a late lunch. Makan Kitchen's buffets change themes by season: the Sunday high tea becomes a Korean-themed Asian Fusion Feast from 4 October to 27 December 2026.

Picking where to eat

  • A lake view on a budget: Indus at Marina Putrajaya on a weekday lunch, or Umai Cafe at the Water Sports Complex for cheap local plates.
  • A quick lunch near the government precinct: Padi House inside Galeria PjH. If it's full, the chain has two more Putrajaya outlets, at Alamanda and IOI Conezion.
  • A mall meal with easy parking: Cili Kampung at Alamanda and Balqis next door on Shaftsbury Avenue, both in Presint 1.
  • A full buffet with the family: Makan Kitchen's heritage spread is the most ambitious in the city, and its Sunday high tea is on a buy-4-free-1 deal through 27 September 2026.
  • A big celebration table: Putrajaya Seafood Restaurant in Taman Botani is the one to call.
