> Quick view: eight Cameron Highlands properties, all verified against their own websites during this check. Where each one actually sits, how big it is, what it has on site, and the only published ringgit tariff on the hill.
How to choose where to stay in Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands is not one town. It is a 30-kilometre ribbon of settlements strung along one winding road, and which end of that ribbon you sleep on changes your holiday more than the hotel does.
Tanah Rata is the administrative and eating town — the bus terminal, the hospital, the strip of Indian and Chinese restaurants, the night market stalls. If you want to walk out of your lobby and be somewhere, stay here. Heritage, Century Pines, Strawberry Park and Cameron Highlands Resort are all in or just above this area.
Brinchang and Kea Farm are the farm belt — strawberry farms, the vegetable market, the butterfly farm, the road up towards Gunung Brinchang. Copthorne sits right at Kea Farm; Nova Highlands is a few minutes further along. This is where the weekend day-trip traffic concentrates, and on a school holiday Saturday the single road through Brinchang can take 40 minutes to clear.
Ringlet is the bottom of the hill, and the quietest. The Lakehouse and BOH's original tea garden are both down here. You gain calm and lose walkability entirely — you will drive to everything.
Four practical things separate these eight properties:
Size, and what that does to breakfast. Heritage has 238 rooms and Copthorne is a similarly large full-service hotel; both run buffet operations that get busy. The Lakehouse has 19 rooms. If you have ever queued 25 minutes for scrambled eggs on a highland weekend, that number matters.
Whether the property is self-contained. Strawberry Park sits alone on its own hill with its own access road. Cameron Highlands Resort has Spa Village on site. Nova Highlands has an in-house café doing breakfast buffets and steamboat dinners. These are the ones that work if you genuinely intend to not get back in the car.
Heritage character versus modern rooms. The Lakehouse, The Smokehouse and Heritage Hotel all trade on mock-Tudor architecture and fireplaces; Copthorne and Century Pines are conventional modern hotels with lifts and larger bathrooms. Both are valid — a 1930s-style building is charming until you are carrying a toddler and two bags up a narrow staircase.
Direct-booking packages, because for seven of the eight that is the only lever you have. Cameron Highlands Resort's own site currently lists four live offers — The Spa Suite Escape, a Resident's Package for Malaysian and Singaporean residents, Room & Fabulous Breakfast, and Advance Purchase at 10% off for booking 30 days ahead. Nova Highlands publishes five named packages (Honeymoon, Celebration, Penthouse BBQ, Steamboat Staycation and Business) plus a direct-booking discount on WhatsApp or email bookings using the code BOOKNOW, with no stated end date. The Lakehouse lists a family package, an afternoon tea and a steamboat. Strawberry Park is the outlier that puts actual ringgit against its packages — see the rates section below.
What a Cameron Highlands room actually costs
Almost nobody up here publishes a price — but one property does, in full, in ringgit, and it is the number to anchor everything else against.
Strawberry Park Resort's own Rates Tariff page carries a complete rack card, valid with immediate effect to 31 December 2026, quoted nett and inclusive of 10% service charge and 8% SST:
- Studio Room (single / twin): RM600 nett per unit per night
- Tioga Deluxe Suite (single / twin): RM800 nett
- Fresno Family Suite (2 bedroom): RM900 nett
- Shasta Family Suite (2+2 bedroom): RM1,100 nett
- Penthouse: RM2,300 nett
- Extra bed, breakfast included: RM180 nett
Breakfast is included, baby cots are free, children under 12 sharing with adults are not charged if no extra bed is needed, and — unusually for the hill — the rack card is explicitly not subject to peak-period surcharge for its whole validity. Breakfast bought separately is RM51 nett per adult and RM30 per child aged 5–11.
Its two package rates undercut that card substantially, and both are restricted to Malaysia and Singapore residents:
- Highland Getaway, valid 1 January to 31 December 2026: RM398 nett Studio, RM448 Tioga, RM688 Fresno, RM1,028 Shasta — one night, plus a steamboat or Chinese set dinner and a complimentary scheduled nature walk on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with advance booking.
- Summer Tranquility Getaway, valid 18 July to 31 October 2026: RM418 nett Studio, RM468 Tioga, RM708 Fresno, RM1,048 Shasta — buffet breakfast, a set lunch or dinner, highland evening tea and the Pahang sustainability fee included.
The catch on both: a surcharge of RM50 nett per unit per night on shoulder season and every Saturday, RM75 on peak (the Friday and Saturday of a Malaysian school holiday) and RM100 on super-peak and public-holiday long weekends. Payment in full on confirmation, non-refundable. So the RM398 headline is a low-season weekday number; the same room on a school-holiday Saturday is RM473.
Copthorne is the only other one showing a figure, and it will probably show it in the wrong money. Its room cards on the Millennium Hotels site do carry "from" prices — a 1 Bedroom Apartment at 77 sqm sleeping three, and a 2 Bedroom Apartment at 114 sqm sleeping six — but the site prices in the currency it infers from your location. On this check it quoted SGD 73.62 and SGD 93.21, not ringgit, with a further 10% off for loyalty members. Note too that the hotel's own page says earning loyalty points is not yet available there, even though members can redeem points for a stay. Its Superior Premium Room is listed at 31 sqm with maximum occupancy four; check-in 3pm, checkout noon.
The other six publish nothing. Cameron Highlands Resort, The Lakehouse, Heritage Hotel, Century Pines, Nova Highlands and The Smokehouse all route you to an enquiry form, a reservations email, or a booking engine that reveals a price only after you enter dates. Century Pines goes one step further: it has a live Offers page that, on this check, listed no offers at all behind its heading.
Two consequences. Use Strawberry Park's published card as the benchmark and judge every quote you receive against it, because it is the only number on this hill that was not generated by a booking platform. And always ask the hotel's own reservations team whether a package beats the OTA, because several properties publish package *names* without prices — you will not be offered them automatically.
One more line item nobody quotes upfront: Strawberry Park's terms cite the Hotel (Pahang) Regulation 2021 sustainability fee of RM3 per room per night, collected on arrival, and the RM10 per room per night tourism tax on non-Malaysian guests under the Tourism Tax Act 2017.
While you are up there: what is open, and what to check first
Two things trip up almost every Cameron Highlands itinerary.
BOH's two visitor tea gardens are closed on Mondays. Both Sungei Palas Tea Garden in Brinchang and BOH Tea Garden at Ringlet open 8.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and close on Mondays except for selected public and school holidays — that is straight from BOH's own visitor pages. Sungei Palas is the one with J.A.'s Balcony, the overhanging viewing deck built in 2007, plus Tristan's Terrace, a 200-seat extension added in 2019. Ringlet's BOH Tea Garden is the older and larger of the two at over 465 hectares, with a tea factory dating to the 1930s and two Nissen huts put up in 1949 during the Emergency. Factory tours at both are running.
Cameron Valley Tea House, run by Bharat Tea in Ringlet, keeps different hours — Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 6pm, and Friday to Sunday and public holidays 8am to 6pm, across its three tea houses. So it is the Monday fallback when BOH is shut.
The Mossy Forest is the one to check before you commit to it. The Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia's own page for Taman Eko Rimba Mossy at Gunung Brinchang still lists it as open daily 8am to 5pm, with admission of RM10 for Malaysian adults aged 13–59, RM5 for Malaysian children aged 3–12 and senior citizens, free for disabled visitors, and RM30 for non-citizen adults and RM15 for non-citizen children. But the boardwalk has been closed repeatedly since 2025 after landslides and storm damage, and tour operators have reported extended closures. Call the Cameron Highlands District Forest Officer or ask a registered jeep operator before you build a day around it.
We also checked Galleria Time Tunnel in Brinchang and could not confirm from any operator-controlled channel that it is currently trading — one Cameron Highlands directory lists it as permanently closed while travel aggregators still show it as open — so it is not in this guide.
The eight
Full detail is on the cards below. Short version: Cameron Highlands Resort and The Lakehouse for a splurge with character, Heritage and Copthorne for family-sized full-service hotels, Strawberry Park for isolation, Century Pines for a modern room in walking distance of Tanah Rata town, Nova Highlands for the farm belt, and The Smokehouse if the 1937 mock-Tudor thing is the entire point of your trip.
How to pick, in order
- Decide the town first, hotel second. Tanah Rata for walkability, Brinchang and Kea Farm for the farms, Ringlet for quiet. This one decision determines how much of your weekend is spent in traffic.
- Match the size to your tolerance for queues. 238 rooms and 19 rooms are different holidays, particularly at breakfast and particularly on a long weekend.
- Anchor on Strawberry Park's card, then get three quotes for your exact dates. RM600 nett for a Studio and RM398 nett on the Highland Getaway package are the only published ringgit numbers on this hill — use them to judge whether a quote elsewhere is fair. Include each hotel's own reservations team, not just the OTA.
- Ask which package applies. Several properties publish package names without prices — residents' rates, advance-purchase discounts, family packages, direct-booking codes. You will not be offered them automatically.
- Book the highland weekend early, or go midweek. School holidays and long weekends fill the whole hill, and rates move accordingly. A Tuesday night in Cameron Highlands is a materially different product from a Saturday one.
*Everything above was verified against each operator's own website during this check. The ringgit rates quoted are Strawberry Park Resort's own published Rates Tariff and promotions pages; the SGD figures are what Copthorne's Millennium Hotels page displayed on this check, in the currency it inferred. Heritage Hotel, The Lakehouse and The Smokehouse sit behind a bot-verification wall that blocked re-checking on this pass, so their details stand from the previous verification. Attraction hours and fees come from BOH Tea, Bharat Tea and the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia's own pages, and can change — confirm before you travel.*
