KL's secondhand scene is bigger than one warehouse
Thrifting in Kuala Lumpur used to mean one thing: a dusty bundle warehouse and a lot of digging. That still exists — and does good business — but the city's secondhand fashion scene has genuinely diversified over the past few years, into curated vintage boutiques with a point of view, designer-resale shops that authenticate before they sell, and streetwear-focused stores stocking Dickies and Dr. Martens rather than random overstock. Every shop below was checked for current operating status via its own website, Instagram or Facebook page.
A pricing note: most of these shops don't publish price lists online, so figures in this article — where they appear — are drawn from customer reviews and secondary write-ups rather than an official source, and are flagged as such. Go with cash, patience, and low expectations about finding exactly what you're looking for; that unpredictability is half the appeal.
Warehouse digging vs. curated racks
Jalan Jalan Japan and Family Bundle represent the classic bundle-store model — racks and racks of unsorted secondhand clothing, sourced in bulk (Jalan Jalan Japan restocks from Bookoff, Japan's largest secondhand chain, via multiple shipping containers a month), where the fun is in the hunt and prices start from a few ringgit. At the other end, Bang Bang Vintage Store, Buntil and Luxury Vintage curate what they sell — smaller selections, higher average price, but a much better hit rate if you don't have an hour to dig. Klumby, Vintage Bangsar and OKGO Store sit in the middle, leaning streetwear and designer-adjacent without the full boutique treatment.
Where to start if you're new to this
If you've never thrifted in KL before, a warehouse store like Jalan Jalan Japan is the cheapest way to learn what secondhand pricing and condition actually looks like, with multiple outlets across the Klang Valley to choose from. If you already know your size and taste and just want a shortcut to good pieces, Bang Bang Vintage Store's Bukit Bintang and REXKL locations are an easy, central starting point.
