> Quick view: McDonald's Malaysia has two things worth planning around this month. The first is a limited run of Grimace merch you can only buy with a Family Feast combo. The second is a one-day deal on Sunday 18 October 2026: 5 pieces of Ayam Goreng McD for RM20 with any McValue Meal, against a usual RM32.70.

McDonald's posted both on its official promotions page this week. The Grimace merch page went up on 13 October, the same day the poster appeared on McDonald's Malaysia's Instagram, and the RM20 chicken page followed on 14 October. Both sit inside a busy month for the brand, which is also running a McD App Birthday Fiesta to 31 October and the Grimace Shake, a red berry and black berry milkshake sold for a limited time.

The Grimace merch: what it costs

The official poster lists four items, each an add-on price on top of a Family Feast:

  • Grimace tote bag: add RM19.90
  • Grimace plushie (a small Grimace in a red McDonald's visor, with a hanging loop): add RM19.90
  • Grimace puffer bag: add RM39.90
  • Grimace tumbler (a purple tumbler with handle and straw): add RM59.90

The small print on the poster sets three rules. The merch is sold while stocks last. It is available every day from 10am to 3:59am only, so a breakfast run will not get you one. And every item is available only with the purchase of a Kombo Famili Feast A or B.

There is one date wrinkle. The text on McDonald's promotion page says the merch is available "from 8 October 2026", but the poster on the same page, and on Instagram, prints "Dari 15 Okt 2026". If you were turned away last week, that is probably why. From today, both agree it should be on sale.

What is in the Family Feast

McDonald's describes the combo as a family meal of Ayam Goreng McD, coleslaw, whipped potato, Taro Pie, grape Fanta, Chicken McNuggets and rice. McDonald's does not print Family Feast prices on its own website. Deals listing site Syioknya puts Combo A at RM49.90 and Combo B at RM54.90, so check the menu board or app before you order. Your local price may differ.

The RM20 Ayam Goreng day: how it works

  1. Go on Sunday 18 October, between 10am and 11:59pm. Breakfast hours do not count, and restaurant hours may cut the window short.
  2. Order any McValue Meal (Set Nilai Hebat) in size S, M or L. The cheapest on McDonald's own list starts from RM8.95, for example a Chicken Burger with small fries and a small Coca-Cola.
  3. Add a 5-piece Ayam Goreng McD Share Box for RM20. You can choose Regular or Spicy. The poster limits it to two Share Boxes per McValue Meal.
  4. Pick your channel. It works for dine-in, takeaway, Drive-Thru, Drive-In, McDelivery and other delivery services. McDonald's names GrabFood, foodpanda and ShopeeFood on its promo page.

Worked examples

  • Just the chicken: a RM8.95 McValue Meal plus one RM20 box is RM28.95 for a meal and 5 pieces of chicken. Bought at the usual RM32.70, the box alone would cost more than that whole order.
  • Feeding a group: one McValue Meal plus two boxes is RM8.95 + RM40 = RM48.95 for 10 pieces of chicken and a set. You save RM25.40 against two boxes at RM32.70.
  • The merch run: if Combo A is RM49.90 at your outlet, adding the tote comes to RM69.80, and adding the tumbler comes to RM109.80. Buy the plushie and the tote and you pay RM89.70, assuming your outlet lets you add two items to one combo. McDonald's has not said whether there is a per-combo limit, so ask at the counter.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits Grimace fans and collectors, families who were going to order a Family Feast anyway, and anyone who wants a cheap chicken dinner on Sunday. The RM20 day is the better pure-value deal: it cuts RM12.70 off every box.

Skip the merch if you only want a tote bag. You are committing to a family combo first, so the real cost of the RM19.90 tote is closer to RM70. Delivery customers should also note that the merch poster says nothing about delivery, so assume it is a counter or Drive-Thru item.

The fine print that trips people up

  • The RM20 chicken does not work with everything. It is not valid with other promotional meals, ala carte orders, party packages, Happy Meals or McSavers Pilih & Padan. You need a full McValue Meal.
  • Airports, Genting and Labuan are out for the RM20 deal, as they usually are for national McDonald's pricing.
  • Prices include 6% service tax, according to the RM20 poster. Delivery orders may carry their own app fees on top.
  • Merch is while stocks last. McDonald's prints "Stok Terhad" and gives no end date, so popular items like the plushie may be gone before the month ends.

Also running this month

  • McD App Birthday Fiesta, 1 to 31 October: in week three (15 to 21 October), the app offers an Americano (S) for RM3.99, a Filet-O-Fish McValue Meal (M) for RM12, and a Fries phone strap for 150 points plus RM15. A Sprite dumpling bag is 150 points plus RM25 from 15 to 31 October, and a Grimace cap is 150 points plus RM20 from 22 to 31 October.
  • Drive-Thru VIP Rewards, 1 October to 31 December: spend at least RM25 at any McDonald's Drive-Thru and show your car or motorbike VIP sticker for a free 4-piece Chicken McNuggets. Ask the crew for a sticker if you don't have one. A Family Feast order clears the RM25 easily.
