> Quick view: From 4 to 14 September 2026, a McDonald's receipt from the front counter, a self-ordering kiosk or the Drive-Thru prints a box asking you to finish the sentence "MY MOST VALUABLE MEKDI MOMENT IS". Write it in, post the photo on your Instagram feed tagging @mcdonaldsmalaysia, and once McDonald's has verified it they DM you a unique code for a Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) Buy 1 Get 1 Free voucher, redeemed in the McD App. The poster values it at RM8.95. Since 5 September McDonald's has also had a Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle at RM39.90, down from a struck-through RM73.70, but only to 9 September 2026 — and buying that bundle at a counter, a kiosk or the Drive-Thru prints the same entry box on its receipt, so the two campaigns stack.
*Updated 5 September 2026: added the Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle and the Cuti@Mekdi workshop, corrected the dates and venues of the Piknik Famili Terbesar @Mekdi roadshow, and re-checked the missing terms and conditions page.*
McDonald's Malaysia published this one on its own promotions page on 3 September 2026, and it started the next morning. The mechanic is unusual for a Malaysian fast food chain: there is no code to key in, no minimum spend printed on the page, and no app-only gate on entry. The entry form is the receipt you were going to be handed anyway.
The receipt is the entry form
Buy something at a McDonald's front counter, at one of the self-ordering kiosks or at the Drive-Thru window. Those are the three channels McDonald's names on the promotion page, and they are also the three that put a printed paper receipt in your hand.
Near the bottom of that receipt, under the totals, sits a printed instruction and a fill-in box. The sample receipt McDonald's used in its own campaign artwork shows the wording: complete the sentence below, tag @mcdonaldsmalaysia on Instagram to redeem a free meal, terms and conditions apply. Under it is a ruled line beginning "MY MOST VALUABLE MEKDI MOMENT IS:" and the sample answer handwritten in the artwork reads "buying my parents dinner for the first time".
From there it is three steps, printed on the poster in this order:
- Write your most valuable Mekdi moment in the box.
- Snap a picture and tag McDonald's on Instagram at @mcdonaldsmalaysia.
- Receive a voucher from McDonald's on Instagram.
The promotion page adds the two details the poster leaves out. The post has to go on your Instagram feed, and the voucher arrives as a unique code sent by DM once your entry has been verified, to be redeemed through the McD App.
What RM8.95 actually buys
McDonald's put the answer in its own artwork rather than in the body text, which is worth noticing because the body text never mentions a price at all. The receipt photographed on the poster is a real itemised tax invoice from Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, the McDonald's Malaysia licensee, dated 1 September 2026, and it reads:
- 1 × S Chicken Burger, 1 × S Coke Zero, 1 × S Fries: RM8.44
- 6% service tax: RM0.51
- Eat-in total including tax: RM8.95
That is the Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S), and RM8.95 is the tax-inclusive eat-in price. The same receipt carries the line McDonald's is promoting this month: McValue meals from just RM8.95.
The asterisk that changes the maths
The poster says "redeem a FREE MEAL* worth RM8.95" in large type. The asterisk resolves in small print at the bottom right of the same image, and it says: Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) Buy 1 Get 1 Free Voucher.
That is a different offer from a free meal. What you hold is a one-for-one voucher, so a second meal comes free when you buy the first. Worked through at the price McDonald's itself printed:
- Two McValue meals at the counter, no voucher: 2 × RM8.95 = RM17.90
- Two McValue meals with the voucher: RM8.95, which is RM4.48 a head
- Cash actually saved: RM8.95, and only if two of you are eating
Read that way the reward is still worth having. It is simply worth RM8.95 to a pair, not RM8.95 to a person eating alone, and a solo diner who redeems it either eats two meals or takes one away.
The bigger offer that landed a day later
McDonald's posted a second September campaign on 4 September 2026, the day after this one, and in pure ringgit it is worth far more than the receipt voucher. The Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle is RM39.90 against a struck-through RM73.70 on McDonald's own artwork — a saving of RM33.80, or 45.9%. It runs 5 to 9 September 2026 only, five days, and 9 September is a Wednesday, so it covers exactly one weekend.
What is in it, as McDonald's lists it on the poster:
- 5 pcs Ayam Goreng McD (Spicy or Regular)
- 6 pcs Chicken McNuggets
- 2 × Fries (M)
- 2 × Coke (M)
- 1 × Bubur Ayam McD (M)
The poster's fine print is narrower than the page's own body text, and the difference costs money. The promotion page tells you to order "via Drive-Thru, Drive-in, McDelivery, takeaway, dine-in". The poster says "Promotion is valid for Dine-In, Drive-Thru and Drive-In", and then, separately, "For McDelivery and other delivery services, an additional charge of RM2 will be applied". So the delivery price is RM41.90, not RM39.90, before whatever delivery fee the app adds on top.
The poster also carries an outlet exclusion the body text omits completely: the promotion is "valid at all McDonald's restaurants except in Airports, Genting & Labuan". If you are in Labuan, at KLIA or on Genting Highlands, this bundle is not available to you at any price. Prices are stated as inclusive of 6% Service Tax, so RM39.90 is the figure you actually hand over.
The two campaigns stack, and nobody has said so
This is the part worth acting on this week. The Mekdi Moment entry box prints on receipts from the front counter, a self-ordering kiosk or the Drive-Thru. The Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle is valid for Dine-In, Drive-Thru and Drive-In. The counter, the kiosk and the Drive-Thru sit in both lists, so one RM39.90 bundle bought between 5 and 9 September feeds the table *and* prints the box that earns the RM8.95 voucher.
Worked through at McDonald's own numbers:
- Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle at the Drive-Thru: RM39.90, against the RM73.70 McDonald's prints as the struck-through value
- That same receipt entered in the Mekdi Moment campaign: a Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) Buy 1 Get 1 Free voucher
- A later trip, two of you using the voucher: RM8.95 instead of RM17.90
Two trips, RM48.85 in total. The same food without either offer is RM73.70 + RM17.90 = RM91.60, so the pair of campaigns is worth RM42.75. Order the bundle on McDelivery instead and you pay RM41.90 and get no printed receipt box at all, which loses the voucher route entirely — the RM2 delivery uplift really costs RM10.95.
Who should bother, and who should not
Worth doing if you were already going to buy something at McDonald's this fortnight, you have a public Instagram account, and you already use the McD App. The extra effort is a sentence and a photo, and the payoff is roughly the price of the meal you just bought.
Skip it if your Instagram account is private or you would rather not post, because McDonald's has to see the tagged post to verify it and has to be able to DM you back. Skip it too if you order only through McDelivery or the app, since the promotion page names the counter, the kiosk and the Drive-Thru, and those are the channels that hand you a printed receipt with the box on it. McDonald's has not said that a delivery order qualifies.
The fine print McDonald's has not published
The promotion page ends with "Terms and conditions apply" and links to nothing. As of 4 September 2026 there is no terms page for this campaign anywhere on mcdonalds.com.my, which leaves four practical questions open:
- Is there a cap on vouchers? Not stated. The page does not say the first N entries win, nor that every verified entry gets one.
- How long is the voucher valid once it lands? Not stated. Assume it is short, since the campaign itself is eleven days.
- Does one receipt equal one entry? Not stated. Nothing says you cannot enter twice on two visits, and nothing says you can.
- Does the free meal have to be identical? The voucher names the Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) specifically, so plan on that rather than on swapping it for a bigger meal.
If any of those would change your decision, the safe move is to ask at the counter before you commit, and to keep the physical receipt until the voucher has actually arrived.
Re-checked on 5 September 2026: still nothing. That is worth stating precisely, because McDonald's does publish dated terms elsewhere. The same promotions page carries a separate Contest tab, and every entry filed there shows a printed date range and an ENDED flag once it closes — *Makan Mekdi Rumah Berseri* is listed as 23 February to 8 March 2026, *Prosperity Fú-Pow* as 22 January to 11 February 2026, and so on. This campaign is not filed there at all; the newest contest on that tab is from March 2026. So McDonald's is running the Mekdi Moment as a promotion rather than as a contest, and there is no dated terms document anywhere on its site to point at. Treat the four questions above as genuinely open, not as something you missed.
What else is live at McDonald's this week
Everything below was re-read off McDonald's own promotion pages on 5 September 2026:
- Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle, RM39.90 from RM73.70, 5 to 9 September 2026. Priced in full above. Dine-In, Drive-Thru and Drive-In; McDelivery adds RM2; Airport, Genting and Labuan restaurants excluded.
- Free squishy Mystery Toy with every Happy Meal, 27 August to 23 September 2026. One toy per Happy Meal, and you only learn which one when the box is opened. Available via Dine-In, McDelivery or Drive-Thru.
- Jom Piknik Famili Terbesar @Mekdi, 5 and 6 September 2026, 5pm to 7pm. Six Drive-Thru restaurants only, free entry. Details below.
- Cuti@Mekdi parent-and-child burger workshop, weekends from 29 August to 6 September 2026, 10am to 12pm. Run with MILO at more than 200 McDonald's restaurants nationwide. Participants get a certificate of attendance, a limited-edition apron and a free MILO. Places are limited and you register in advance, so the last session is the morning of Sunday 6 September.
- Free Mini Cone, no end date. McDonald's own page says to just ask a crew member, at any hour, with no limit stated and no expiry given. It is a standing freebie rather than a dated promo.
Two offers readers may still be chasing have closed. The McCafé promotion that put an Iced Latte (L) at RM6.90 and an Iced Chocolate (L) at RM8.90 on the McD App ran 21 to 31 August. The 5 pcs Ayam Goreng Mekdi at RM20 with any McValue Meal (M or L) was a 31 August only offer, from 10am.
Correcting the picnic dates
An earlier version of this article listed the Piknik Famili Terbesar @Mekdi as running 29 August to 6 September. Those are in fact the dates of a different McDonald's campaign, the Cuti@Mekdi burger workshop above. McDonald's own picnic page reads *"dari 5 September hingga 6 September di McD terpilih"* — two evenings, at six named restaurants, all of them Drive-Thru sites:
- Saturday 5 September, 5pm to 7pm: McDonald's Pantai Batu Buruk DT (Terengganu), McDonald's Pengkalan Chepa DT (Kelantan), McDonald's Mutiara Rini DT (Johor)
- Sunday 6 September, 5pm to 7pm: McDonald's Sunway City Ipoh DT (Perak), McDonald's Alor Mengkudu DT (Kedah), McDonald's Bandar Sri Pinang DT (Pulau Pinang)
Entry is free — the poster says "MASUK PERCUMA". Complete every activity and you can redeem an Ayam Goreng McD Rasa Ori Set Nilai Hebat (M) voucher plus a limited-edition Mekdi picnic bag. The poster's fine print sets the caps: the picnic bag goes to the first 500 guests, the free McNuggets run to 1,000 sets in total (each one 6 pcs Chicken McNuggets, an apple pie and a 240ml iced Milo), and the first 30 groups of four get a mystery gift. Redemption also runs to whatever times each location sets on the day.
The most durable prize is the voucher rather than the bag. McDonald's fine print says the Ayam Goreng McD Rasa Ori Set Nilai Hebat (M) voucher is valid at all McDonald's restaurants and until 30 September 2026 — so it outlives the picnic by more than three weeks, and it is worth turning up for even if the bags have gone.
