The next McDonald's Malaysia deal is a one-day Promo Hari Malaysia: on Wednesday 16 September, 10am to 11:59pm, any Set Nilai Hebat (M) or (L) lets you add a 5-piece Ayam Goreng Mekdi Share Box for RM20, against a struck-through RM32. The fine print caps it at two boxes per set and excludes airport, Genting and Labuan restaurants. Today, 15 September, is also the last day of a free Taro Pie for the first 50 Drive-Thru customers who shout "Roar.. Saya Lapar-zilla!".

Malaysia Day: 5 pieces of Ayam Goreng Mekdi for RM20

McDonald's posted this on its promotion page on 14 September 2026, the same day the receipt campaign ended. The page text is short; the poster's fine print is where the rules are. Read together, they say:

  • Date: 16 September 2026 only. The poster prints the window as 10:00am to 11:59pm, while the page body says "10 pagi hingga 11 malam", so do not leave it to the last hour. The fine print also warns that promotion hours can differ with each restaurant's own operating hours.
  • What you buy first: any Set Nilai Hebat (M) or (L). The add-on is not sold on its own, and it does not attach to Ala Carte items, party packages, Happy Meals or McSavers Pilih & Padan.
  • What you add: a 5-piece Ayam Goreng Mekdi Share Box for RM20, in Rasa Ori or Pedas. The poster's struck-through price is RM32.
  • Cap: two Share Boxes per Set Nilai Hebat.
  • Channels: Dine-In, Drive-Thru, Drive-In, McDelivery and other delivery services. The page names GrabFood, foodpanda and ShopeeFood, and also takeaway.
  • Excluded: McDonald's restaurants at airports, Genting and Labuan.
  • Tax: prices are in ringgit and include 6% service tax, so RM20 is what you pay.

What RM20 is worth

At McDonald's own two numbers, the saving is simple to work out:

  • One Share Box: RM20 instead of RM32, which saves RM12. Each piece costs RM4 instead of RM6.40.
  • Two Share Boxes on one set (the cap): 10 pieces for RM40 instead of RM64, which saves RM24.
  • A family that wants 15 pieces needs two Set Nilai Hebat orders. The third box has to hang off the second set.

McDonald's does not print the Set Nilai Hebat price on this poster, so the RM20 is on top of a set you would have to buy anyway. The deal suits a group that was already going to order meals and wants chicken to share. It is poor value for one person, because the qualifying set plus a 5-piece box is a lot of food.

It has happened before

This is the same mechanic McDonald's ran for Merdeka. Its "Hanya 1 Hari Je!" page offered 5 pcs Ayam Goreng Mekdi at RM20 with a McValue meal (M or L), on 31 August 2026 only, from 10am. Malaysia Day repeats it sixteen days later, with the cap now printed as two boxes per set. If you missed the Merdeka round, this is the second chance.

Ends tonight: a free Taro Pie at the Drive-Thru

McDonald's posted a Drive-Thru-only offer on 11 September. The steps printed on its page are:

  1. Drive, or ride, into any McDonald's Drive-Thru. The poster says "Motor pun boleh", so motorcycles count.
  2. Shout "Roar.. Saya Lapar-zilla!"
  3. Get a free Taro Pie.

It runs 12 to 15 September 2026 and is limited to the first 50 customers per day at each Drive-Thru, according to the poster's fine print. The page does not say you need to buy anything. Today is the last day, and with only 50 pies per Drive-Thru, going earlier in the day is the safer bet.

The Taro Pie is part of McDonald's September menu refresh, posted on 4 September: the Samurai Burger (teriyaki beef) is back, alongside a new Ninja Wasabi Burger (chicken katsu with wasabi shoyu sauce), a Mochi Matcha Deluxe Sundae, and Mango Dip and Taro Dip. McDonald's has published no price and no end date for any of these, so we are not listing them as a deal.

The Mekdi Moment campaign has ended

The campaign this page was first written about ran 4 to 14 September 2026. McDonald's own page still reads "Campaign runs 4-14 September 2026", and nothing has been posted to extend it. For anyone who searched for it, this is how it worked:

  • Buy anything at the front counter, a self-ordering kiosk or the Drive-Thru. Those receipts printed a box beginning "MY MOST VALUABLE MEKDI MOMENT IS:".
  • Fill in the box, post a photo on your Instagram feed tagging @mcdonaldsmalaysia, and McDonald's DMs a unique code once it has verified the post. You redeem it in the McD App.
  • The poster said "FREE MEAL* worth RM8.95". The asterisk resolved to a Chicken Burger McValue Meal (S) Buy 1 Get 1 Free Voucher, so the first meal was still paid for. Two people using it paid RM8.95 instead of RM17.90.

If you entered and your code has not arrived, keep the paper receipt and the Instagram post up. McDonald's never published terms for this campaign. On 15 September 2026 its Contest tab still listed nothing newer than *Makan Mekdi Rumah Berseri* (23 February to 8 March 2026). So there is no stated voucher cap, verification deadline or redemption window to point to. Message @mcdonaldsmalaysia with your post link rather than assuming the entry lapsed.

The other September offers that have finished

  • Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle, RM39.90 from RM73.70, 5 to 9 September 2026. It contained 5 pcs Ayam Goreng McD, 6 pcs Chicken McNuggets, 2 medium fries, 2 medium Cokes and a Bubur Ayam McD (M). It was valid for Dine-In, Drive-Thru and Drive-In, with RM2 extra on McDelivery, and not at airport, Genting or Labuan restaurants.
  • Jom Piknik Famili Terbesar @Mekdi, 5 and 6 September 2026. Two evenings at six Drive-Thru restaurants in Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor, Perak, Kedah and Penang. The event is over, but the Ayam Goreng McD Rasa Ori Set Nilai Hebat (M) voucher it gave out is valid at all McDonald's restaurants until 30 September 2026. If you have one, use it before then.
  • Cuti@Mekdi parent-and-child burger workshop. Weekends from 29 August to 6 September 2026, at more than 200 restaurants.

What is still running after Malaysia Day

  • Free Hello Kitty and Friends x Godzilla toy with every Happy Meal, from 24 September 2026 at 10am, 8 designs to collect, end date not published. It replaced the squishy Mystery Toy, which ran 27 August to 23 September. See our Happy Meal toy guide.

After 16 September there is no dated McDonald's price promotion on its page. The next thing to watch is what fills the Happy Meal toy slot after 23 September.
