> Quick view: Sutera Harbour is Kota Kinabalu's big marina resort, made up of two hotels (The Pacific Sutera and The Magellan Sutera) plus an island resort on Mantanani. Its offers page lists ten packages without end dates. We ran the two best ones through the official booking engine on 7 October 2026. The Family Escapade cut a three-night family stay at The Pacific Sutera from RM3,030 to RM1,050. Pay 2, Stay 4 on Mantanani worked out to under RM390 a head for two nights with breakfast and the boat.

The two offers worth your time

Sutera Harbour lists ten offers on its site, but most are dining promotions or pricey golf packages (Golf & Stay starts at RM1,628 a night). Two stand out once you put real dates into the booking engine.

1. Family Escapade (Malaysians and Bruneians only). One room with breakfast for two adults and two children aged 12 and under. Stay three nights or more and the room gets two free games at Striker's Bowl. The offer page quotes "from RM365" a night at The Pacific Sutera and "from RM546" at The Magellan Sutera. On the booking engine the rate only appeared once we entered the promo code FPMG3, which sits behind the offer page's Book Now button.

2. Pay 2, Stay 4 at Sutera@Mantanani. Four people share one room on Mantanani Besar island for at least two nights. The rate covers breakfast for four, the return boat from Jetty Sutera Mantanani, one batik painting session for the group, and the non-motorised activities (snorkelling, kayaking, kite flying, beach volleyball and the bouncy castle). The offer page says "from RM1,350 per night", but the engine sold it for less than that on our dates.

What we were quoted (7 October, booking engine)

  • Deluxe Sea View Twin: RM1,188
  • Premium King or Premium Twin: RM1,281

  • Pay 2, Stay 4, Deluxe King or Twin with sofa bed, 4 adults, return sea transfer: RM1,547
  • The same with the land transfer from Sutera Harbour added: RM1,988.80
  • For comparison, 2 adults in a Deluxe King: RM1,360 on the Malaysians-only rate (which adds a hi-tea or ATV ride and batik painting), RM1,700 on the regular rate with sea transfer

The sea-view chalets were not available on those dates.

Worked examples

A family of four from Penampang or Kuching. Three nights at The Pacific Sutera on the Family Escapade costs RM1,050. The cheapest flexible rate with breakfast is RM3,030, so the saving is RM1,980. Even against the hotel's own early-payment rate (RM2,640), you save RM1,590.

Two couples splitting Mantanani. Pay 2, Stay 4 costs RM1,547, or about RM387 per person for two nights including breakfast and the boat. If the two couples each booked their own room on the Malaysians-only rate instead, they would pay 2 x RM1,360 = RM2,720. That's RM1,173 more for privacy and a free hi-tea.

Adding the land transfer. From the city, the land-and-sea version is RM441.80 more for the group, about RM110 each. The bus leaves The Magellan Sutera lobby around 11:30am, and you need to register by 11:15am. If you have your own car, drive to the jetty and save that money.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Good for: Malaysian families who can commit to fixed dates, especially during the year-end school holidays. Also groups of four friends who want an island weekend without paying for two rooms.

Skip it if: your dates might change. Both rates are prepaid and non-refundable, and the Family Escapade cannot be shortened or amended. Foreign passport holders cannot use the Family Escapade at all. Four adults may find a 38m² room with one sofa bed tight for two nights. A family of five needs an extra bed, which costs RM180 nett a night on the regular packages.

Fine print that trips people up

  • Proof of nationality. Bring your MyKad (or Bruneian ID) for everyone named on the booking. Without it the hotel switches you to the Best Available Rate, which on our dates was almost three times the price.
  • The dining discount is described two ways. The Pacific Sutera offer page says the Family Escapade gives 50% off the buffet dinner and à la carte food at Café Boleh. The booking engine lists 20% off à la carte food at Café Boleh and Al Fresco instead. Ask the hotel to confirm in writing before you rely on the bigger figure.
  • Weather on Mantanani. If the last boat is cancelled for safety, the resort covers food and lodging for the extra night, but no refunds are given. Activities need advance booking and depend on the weather.
  • Tourism tax. Foreign guests pay RM10 per room per night at checkout. Malaysians and permanent residents are exempt.
  • No end date. Sutera Harbour has not published a closing date for either offer. Blackout dates may apply, so check your exact nights on the engine before planning flights.

While you're there: dining offers at the resort

  • Weekend Soirées buffet, Café Boleh, Sat and Sun lunch (12pm-3pm) and dinner (6pm-10pm): RM168 adult, RM118 senior (65+), RM84 child (7-12). Buy 5, pay 4 for groups. Five adults pay RM672 instead of RM840.
  • Borneo's Bounty, Café Boleh: Sabahan Talam Set RM99 nett, à la carte from RM20 nett, with a live kulintangan performance Monday to Wednesday, 5pm-8pm.
  • Twinings Hi-Tea Set, RM98 nett for two with free-flow coffee and tea. Served at Tariks Lobby Lounge in The Magellan Sutera (12pm-5pm) and at The Pacific Sutera lobby lounge (3pm-6pm).
  • Ladies' Night, Horizons Sky Bar at The Pacific Sutera, Fridays from 7pm: one complimentary cocktail for every lady, plus 1-for-1 on selected cocktails.
