> Quick view: TGV Cinemas is taking up to RM5 off movie tickets paid with Grab, 17 August to 30 September 2026, at all TGV locations. Two codes, two values: GRABPAYTGV3 gives RM3 with the GrabPay wallet, PAYLATERTGV5 gives RM5 with PayLater by Grab. Both need a minimum spend of RM40. TGV's campaign visual restricts it to MovieClub members, the caps are 1,000 transactions per payment method, and each customer gets one promo transaction a month. Rechecked on TGV's own promotion pages on 4 September 2026: the Grab code is still live and unchanged, but three things around it have moved. TGV's Early Bird from RM9 session offer has been withdrawn; a Buy 1 Free 1 with Shopee's SPayLater launched on 1 September; and a flat RM10 ticket with a Maybank Mastercard Debit card, Thursday to Sunday, has been running all year. Because this code cannot stack with any of them, two of the three change the answer to "should I use it".

The headline says RM5. The wallet only gets you RM3

TGV's banner reads "Get Up To RM5 Off" and, as usual, the two small words at the front are doing most of the work. TGV's own promo-code artwork breaks the headline into two separate codes, and they are not worth the same amount:

  • GRABPAYTGV3 — RM3 off, when you pay with the GrabPay wallet
  • PAYLATERTGV5 — RM5 off, when you pay with PayLater by Grab

Both carry the same asterisk on TGV's artwork: "with minimum spend of RM40".

That single difference is the whole story of this promotion. GrabPay is a prepaid e-wallet — money you already have, already topped up. PayLater by Grab is a deferred-payment product: you take the tickets now and settle the bill later. The extra RM2 is what TGV and Grab are paying you to choose the credit option over the cash one.

Worth saying plainly, because the banner does not: the maximum saving on this promotion is RM5, and it is only available if you borrow. If you would rather not, your ceiling is RM3.

What you need before either code will work

Three things, and the second one is the one people will get caught by.

A minimum spend of RM40. TGV's terms state the promotion is "limited to 1,000 transactions for GrabPay and PayLater by Grab respectively, with a minimum purchase of RM40". At most TGV halls a single adult 2D ticket does not reach RM40, so this is effectively a two-ticket offer.

MovieClub membership. TGV's campaign visual states, in capitals across the bottom, "EXCLUSIVE FOR MOVIECLUB MEMBERS". This condition appears nowhere in the seven written terms and conditions published under the promotion — it is on the artwork only. MovieClub is TGV's free loyalty programme, so the fix is signing up rather than paying, but if you book as a guest you should expect the code to be rejected.

A Grab payment at TGV's own checkout. The promotion is applied inside TGV's booking flow, not inside the Grab app.

The three steps, as TGV publishes them

TGV's own step guide, titled "Redeem in 3 Easy Steps", is short:

  1. Select movie, seat(s) and "Single" ticket — the guide's screenshot shows the buyer choosing the standard "Single" ticket line rather than a bank-specific or concession line.
  2. Choose Grab eWallet checkout — pick Grab at the payment-method step.
  3. Apply the promo code — enter GRABPAYTGV3 or PAYLATERTGV5 in the promo code field before paying.

The same guide carries a warning in its own words: "LIMITED QUANTITY AVAILABLE".

One detail worth noting from that screenshot: the voucher shown in TGV's illustration reads "RM 5 OFF with PayLater Online — Until 31 Aug 2026", which is a month earlier than the 30 September end date on the banner. Screenshots inside campaign artwork are usually captured before the campaign is finalised, so treat the banner as authoritative — but check the expiry printed on the code in your own checkout before you commit to a booking.

What it is actually worth

TGV does not publish a full national price list; the price varies by hall, format, day and showtime. The only figure it states outright as a session floor is Mid Day Movies from RM10 — a second floor, Early Bird from RM9, existed when we first published this and has since been withdrawn (see below). The example screenshot inside TGV's own step guide — TGV Alamanda, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, 10 August 2026 — shows a "Single" adult ticket at RM25.00, with Kids at RM12.00 (ages 12 and below) and Senior/OKU at RM12.00 (ages 60 and above, or a valid OKU card). Use those as an illustration of the shape, not a national price list.

On that shape:

  • Two adult tickets at RM25 each = RM50. Clears the RM40 minimum. With PAYLATERTGV5 you pay RM45 — a saving of 10%. With GRABPAYTGV3 you pay RM47, a saving of 6%.
  • One adult ticket at RM25. Does not reach RM40. No discount, either code.
  • Two adults plus two kids: RM25 + RM25 + RM12 + RM12 = RM74. Clears the minimum comfortably, but the discount is still a flat RM3 or RM5 — it does not scale with the basket, so the percentage saved falls to 6.8% or 4.1%.

The pattern is the one that matters: because the discount is a flat ringgit amount over a fixed RM40 floor, it is worth the most on a basket that sits just above RM40 and least on a big family booking.

One genuine ambiguity: TGV's terms say "minimum purchase of RM40" without stating whether food and drink added in the same transaction count towards it. If your tickets land just under RM40, adding a combo may or may not push you over. Nothing published settles it, so do not plan around it.

The fine print that will trip people up

All seven of TGV's published terms, and the ones that matter:

  • 1,000 transactions for GrabPay and 1,000 for PayLater, respectively, for the whole campaign — nationwide, first come first served, while stocks last. Across every TGV in Malaysia over six weeks, that is a small number.
  • One promo transaction per customer per month. You cannot run the code every weekend.
  • Not valid with other ongoing promotions. TGV separately advertises a Buy 1 Free 1 with SPayLater, a flat RM10 ticket with a Maybank Mastercard Debit card, RM10 off an IMAX ticket, and a free ticket on Fridays and Saturdays with an Affin credit card. You pick one — this code is not a top-up on any of them, and on most days one of the others is worth more.
  • Not valid for any hall bookings, special screenings, events or concerts. Private hall bookings and event screenings are out.
  • The date TGV itself disagrees on. The promotion page header says "17 August until 30 September 2026, while stocks last", and the campaign banner prints "17 AUG - 30 SEP 2026". But the first written term reads "Promotion is available from 17 September until 30 September 2026". Two of TGV's three statements say August; one says September. We are reporting the conflict rather than picking a winner, though the header and the banner agreeing makes 17 August the likelier reading — and in any case the end date, 30 September, is not in dispute.

PayLater is credit. Read this before you take the RM5

Grab's own Malaysian PayLater page sets out the terms, and they are worth knowing before the extra RM2 tempts you:

  • It works either as a postpaid bill paid the following month, or in 4, 8 or 12 instalments.
  • After promotional periods end, Grab's page states a charge of 1.5% of the total transaction amount per instalment.
  • Missing a scheduled payment triggers a flat RM10 Late Payment Charge to reactivate the suspended account.
  • Eligibility: aged 21 or over, a fully verified Grab account, and the latest app version.

An RM10 late charge is twice the RM5 you saved. That is not a reason to avoid PayLater if you already use it and pay on time — it is a reason not to sign up for a credit facility for the first time in order to save RM2 more on a cinema ticket.

The seven other TGV offers this code cannot stack with

"Not valid with other ongoing promotions" is the term most likely to cost you money, because TGV is running seven other offers right now. We opened every one of them on TGV's own promotion pages on 4 September 2026, and four of them are worth more than anything this code can do.

What changed since we first published this on 24 August. One offer has appeared, one we had missed, and one has gone:

  • New — Buy 1, Free 1 with SPayLater. Launched 1 September 2026, running to 31 October 2026. You pick two seats, select the "SPayLater 1For1" ticket type, set the quantity to 1 for those two seats, and pay with the SPayLater e-wallet. Capped at 100 transactions per day nationwide, one free ticket per transaction. This is the single most important change on the page: SPayLater is Shopee's buy-now-pay-later product — the same *category* of credit that PAYLATERTGV5 asks you to use — and it gives you a whole ticket rather than RM5 off one.
  • We had missed one — the RM10 Maybank Mastercard Debit ticket. Distinct from the RM10-off-IMAX offer below, which needs a Maybank Mastercard *credit* card. This one is a flat RM10 ticket, 1 January to 31 December 2026, valid Thursday to Sunday, 3,000 promotional tickets a week nationwide, maximum two per transaction. Select the "Maybank Mastercard Single" ticket line and check out with the debit card.
  • Gone — Early Bird from RM9. Its promotion page no longer renders and it has dropped out of every "Don't Miss These Out" carousel on TGV's site. TGV publishes no notice when an offer is retired, so we are reporting the disappearance rather than a stated end date. Do not plan around RM9 mornings.

  • Buy 1, Free 1 with SPayLater. 1 September to 31 October 2026, every day, all TGV locations. 100 transactions a day nationwide, one free ticket per transaction. Requires the SPayLater e-wallet and the "SPayLater 1For1" ticket line.
  • RM10 movie ticket with a Maybank Mastercard Debit card. 1 January to 31 December 2026, Thursday to Sunday, 3,000 tickets a week nationwide, maximum two per transaction.
  • Mid Day Movies — from RM10. All year round, for sessions between 12pm and 6pm. Not available on weekends or public holidays, and not on titles marked Blockbuster or Super Blockbuster. Deluxe single seats only.
  • Members Wednesday — RM2 off. Every Wednesday, all year, for MovieClub members only, on the TGV website and app only. Deluxe single seats only. Excluded on premier screenings, blockbusters, super blockbusters and movie sneaks, and on any Wednesday that falls on a public holiday or the eve of one.
  • A free ticket with an Affin credit card. 17 April to 31 October 2026, on Fridays and Saturdays only — you pick the "B1F1 with Affin" ticket line and check out with the card. Capped at 200 tickets a day nationwide, Deluxe single seats in 2D only, maximum two tickets per transaction and one promo transaction per week.
  • RM5 off with an MBSB Debit Card-i. Running until 27 June 2027, available daily, capped at 100 tickets a day. Deluxe single seat, 2D only, maximum two tickets per transaction.
  • RM10 off an IMAX ticket. 1 January to 31 December 2026, paying with a Maybank Mastercard — a card requirement the promotion's title never mentions. Capped at 350 tickets a week nationwide, maximum two tickets per transaction.

Now read that list next to the RM5. On a RM25 adult ticket, PAYLATERTGV5 brings you down to RM20. A Mid Day session starts at RM10 without a code, a card or a minimum spend. A Maybank Mastercard Debit ticket is RM10 flat, Thursday to Sunday — which covers the entire weekend, the slot the Grab code was supposed to own. And on a two-seat evening booking, SPayLater's Buy 1 Free 1 takes roughly RM25 off, five times what PAYLATERTGV5 can manage.

That last comparison is the one to sit with, because it is not a fair-weather one. Both PAYLATERTGV5 and the SPayLater B1F1 ask you to use a buy-now-pay-later facility. If you have already decided you are willing to do that, Grab's version pays you RM5 and Shopee's pays you a free ticket. The only reasons to still pick Grab are that you hold PayLater by Grab but not SPayLater, or that SPayLater's 100-a-day national cap has already run out for the day.

When the Grab code is genuinely the best thing on the page: you are a MovieClub member, you already have Grab set up, you are buying two or more tickets, you are booking Monday to Wednesday (so the Maybank RM10 window is closed), you cannot use SPayLater, and the showtime is after 6pm (so Mid Day is out). That is a narrow slot — narrower than it was on 24 August, and it narrowed because TGV added better offers, not because this one got worse.

Who this is for, and who should skip it

Use it if you are already a MovieClub member, already pay with Grab, and are booking two or more tickets in one go. A tenth off two adult tickets for entering a code is a perfectly good return on ten seconds of typing.

Use the GrabPay code, not the PayLater one, if you do not already have PayLater active. RM3 with money you already have beats RM5 with money you do not.

Use SPayLater instead if you are willing to use a buy-now-pay-later product at all. Both offers ask the same thing of you; Shopee's gives you a whole free ticket and Grab's gives you RM5.

Skip it if you can move the booking to a weekday afternoon — Mid Day Movies from RM10 beats a RM25 ticket with RM5 taken off it, and it cannot be combined with this code. Skip it on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday if you hold a Maybank Mastercard Debit card, when a RM10 flat ticket is on the table. Skip it too if you hold an Affin credit card and are booking on a Friday or Saturday, when TGV's own free-ticket offer is worth far more than RM5, or an MBSB Debit Card-i, which takes RM5 off any day without a RM40 floor. Skip it if you are booking a single ticket, since you will not clear RM40. Skip it if you are booking a private hall, a special screening or an event, all of which are excluded outright. And skip it if you have already used the code this month — the one-per-customer-per-month limit is absolute.

And whenever you use it, book earlier in the campaign rather than later. With 1,000 transactions per payment method across the entire country, "while stocks last" is the term most likely to decide whether this promotion exists by the time you reach the checkout.
