The Datai Langkawi sits on its own bay, Teluk Datai, on the north-west tip of Langkawi, with the resort buildings set into ancient rainforest above the beach. It is one of the most expensive stays in Kedah, so a local-only rate is worth a close look. The resort describes The Datai Breakaway as an "exclusive offer for residents of Malaysia and Singapore", and everything below comes from its offer page and the resort's other offer pages, which we read on 24 September 2026.

What the Breakaway rate includes

  • Room rate from RM1,853 a night for a Canopy Deluxe room, subject to 10% service charge.
  • Daily signature breakfast for two adults and two children below 12.
  • Up to two children under 12 stay free when sharing their parents' room on the standard bed setup, within the room's maximum occupancy.
  • Kids' menu meals are free for up to two children under 5 dining with their parents. For children aged 5 to 11, kids' menu items are charged, but they get 50% off à la carte dishes.
  • 15% off food and beverage (excluding The Datai Spirits Collection by the bottle and wines priced at RM500 and above) and 15% off spa treatments (excluding ongoing spa promotions and packages).
  • 10% off selected boutique items, free Wi-Fi, and selected nature walks with the resort's Resident Naturalists, subject to availability.

How to book it, step by step

  1. Check your dates first. The offer is valid for stays until 31 October 2026, so a check-out on 1 November or later won't qualify at this rate.
  2. Book through the offer page on thedatai.com and make sure the Breakaway rate is the one selected on the booking screen.
  3. Guarantee it with a credit card. Nothing is taken at booking, but one night's deposit is charged 7 days before arrival.
  4. Bring your ID. A valid Malaysian or Singaporean ID, or proof of residence, is required at booking and at check-in.

Worked examples in ringgit

These use the lowest advertised Canopy Deluxe rate. Your dates may price higher.

  • One night: RM1,853 plus 10% service charge is RM2,038.30.
  • A two-night weekend: 2 × RM2,038.30 = RM4,076.60, with breakfast for the whole family of four each morning.
  • A three-night stay: 3 × RM2,038.30 = RM6,114.90.
  • Dining discount: a RM600 dinner bill at 15% off saves RM90. Spend about RM1,200 across meals and spa and the discount alone is worth RM180.

The offer page only mentions the 10% service charge, so confirm the final total on the booking screen before you pay.

How it compares with The Datai's other open offers

The resort has two other offers running, and they are not better for a short stay before November.

  • The Datai Early Bird gives 10% off when you book 30 days ahead, with rates from RM2,700 a night, for stays from 1 March to 22 December 2026. Its cancellation is charged at 100%.
  • The Datai Extended Journey is stay 4 nights and pay for 3, or stay 7 and pay for 5, for stays from 10 April to 22 December 2026. It is also 100% non-refundable. The page doesn't give a nightly rate. Even if the paid nights were at the Early Bird's RM2,700 starting level, four nights for the price of three works out to RM2,025 a night, still above the Breakaway's RM1,853.

So for a stay that ends by 31 October, Breakaway is the one to pick if you hold a Malaysian or Singaporean ID. It's cheaper per night, it adds the 15% dining and spa discount the other two don't list, and it's the only one with free cancellation. From November to 22 December, Breakaway no longer applies and the other two are your options.

Who it's good for, and who should skip it

Good for: Malaysian families with young children, since two kids under 12 stay and eat breakfast free, and under-5s eat from the kids' menu at no charge. It also suits couples who planned to splurge on the spa or dinner anyway, and anyone who wants the flexibility of free cancellation during Langkawi's wetter months.

Skip it if: you can only travel in November or December, you're bringing a third adult (the other offers list an extra adult charge of RM460 a night, and Breakaway doesn't state one, so ask), or you want a beachfront villa. The RM1,853 starting rate is for the entry Canopy Deluxe room, not the Rainforest or Beach Villas.

Fine print that trips people up

  • The index page shows an old price. The resort's offers listing still says "from MYR 2,180" for Breakaway, while the offer page says RM1,853. That's exactly 15% lower, so go by the booking screen.
  • ID is checked twice. No residency proof at check-in could mean losing the rate.
  • No stacking. It can't be combined with other promotions or applied to existing bookings.
  • Deposit timing. Cancel more than 7 days before arrival and you pay nothing. Inside 7 days, the one-night deposit has already been charged.
  • Getting there. The resort puts the airport 30 km and about 40 minutes away, and Kuah town and the ferry jetty 45 km and about an hour away. Its own one-way airport transfers are RM350 for a Toyota Vellfire MPV, RM450 for an executive limousine and RM550 for a Bentley or BMW i7, plus 10% service charge, so a hire car or Grab is the cheaper way in.
