> Quick view: The Lakehouse in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, sells a Highland Escape rate at up to 25% off its Best Flexible Rate, with breakfast, a guided jungle trek, and tea and scones for 2-night website bookings. It also has three 2-night packages. On the hotel's own booking engine for 25-27 September 2026, a Deluxe room was RM1,418 on Highland Escape and RM1,890 on the flexible rate, the Getaway package and the Romance package alike. Everything we saw is prepaid and non-refundable.

The Lakehouse is the mock-Tudor country house above Sultan Abu Bakar Lake at Ringlet, the first town you reach on the old road up from Tapah. It is small, managed by HPL Hotels & Resorts, and it does not publish room rates on its offer pages. The only way to see prices is its own booking engine, so that is where every figure below comes from. We searched two adults, one room, two nights, arriving Friday 25 September 2026. Rates move with dates, so treat these as a snapshot of one weekend and run your own dates before deciding.

How Highland Escape works

  1. Go to lakehouse-cameron.com and open Book Now. Pick dates, guests and rooms.
  2. Every room type lists Highland Escape first. The engine shows the Best Flexible Rate crossed out and the discounted price beside it.
  3. Book at least 2 nights on the hotel's own website if you want the complimentary Tea & Scones. Shorter stays still get breakfast and the trek, but not the tea.
  4. Pay in full at booking. The offer page says bookings cannot be amended or cancelled, and no-shows are charged 100%.

What the rate includes, per the offer page: your room or suite, daily breakfast for 2, the Tea & Scones on 2-night website bookings, and a complimentary guided jungle trek. The page says it is valid for stays throughout the year and gives no end date.

What it cost on our dates (2 nights, 25-27 September, including 8% service tax)

  • Deluxe Double or Deluxe Twin: RM1,418 on Highland Escape, RM1,890 on the Best Flexible Rate. That is about RM709 a night.
  • Junior Suite: RM1,924 against RM2,565.
  • Family Suite (2 bedrooms, up to 4 guests, one shared bathroom): RM2,531 against RM3,375.
  • Foster Suite (hilltop annex, log fireplace, sunken bath): RM2,531 against RM3,375.

Every pair works out to a straight 25% off. Extra beds on Highland Escape cost RM150 nett a night for a child aged 6 to 11 and RM250 nett a night for anyone 12 and above. The Foster and Cameron Suites take no extra person.

The three packages, and whether they beat doing it yourself

All three are 2-night packages for two adults, prepaid and non-refundable. The useful comparison is not against the flexible rate but against Highland Escape plus the same meals ordered à la carte. The Lakehouse publishes those prices on its dining offer pages: Lakehouse Steamboat RM250 nett for two (6.30pm-9pm, book before noon), English Roast for Two at RM300 nett for Certified Angus Striploin or RM200 nett for Whole Roast Chicken (book by 3pm), and afternoon tea at RM108 nett for the English High Tea Set or RM160 nett for the Afternoon Tea Set (2pm-6pm daily).

Lakehouse Getaway Package (stays to 20 December 2026): welcome drinks, daily breakfast, one Traditional English Tea, one Lakehouse Steamboat dinner, and a two-way taxi transfer to and from Ipoh Airport. Deluxe room: RM1,890. The booking engine's fee breakdown puts the inclusions at RM1,036 for the stay.

Worked example: Highland Escape Deluxe RM1,418 + steamboat RM250 + English High Tea Set RM108 = RM1,776, which is RM114 less than the package, and Highland Escape already throws in tea and scones. The package only wins if you are flying into Ipoh and would otherwise pay for a taxi up the hill both ways. One oddity: the hotel's offers index describes this package with an English roast dinner, while the package page and booking engine say steamboat. Confirm which one you are getting before you pay.

Intimate Romance Package (stays to 20 December 2026): welcome drinks, daily breakfast, a special occasion set-up in the room, one Traditional English Tea and one English Roast Dinner (Angus beef or whole chicken). Deluxe room: RM1,890. Check-in is 3pm, an hour later than the other rates.

Worked example: Highland Escape RM1,418 + Angus roast RM300 + High Tea RM108 = RM1,826, so RM64 cheaper. Pick the chicken and it is RM1,726, RM164 cheaper. What you give up by going DIY is the room set-up and the welcome drinks.

Family Package (stays to 31 December 2026): daily breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child, parking, Wi-Fi, and one half-day tour by 4x4 Land Rover to the Mossy Forest (about an hour) plus the BOH Tea Plantation and a strawberry farm. Family Suite: RM3,375, against RM2,531 on Highland Escape. Extra beds on this package cost RM380 nett for 2 nights for a child aged 6 to 12, or RM680 nett for anyone older.

Worked example: the RM844 gap pays for the Land Rover tour and the child's breakfasts. The hotel does not publish a standalone price for that tour, so you cannot price it out precisely. If the Mossy Forest is the reason you are going and you do not want to drive the rough track to it yourself, it is a reasonable bundle. If you would skip the tour, book Highland Escape.

Who it is good for, and who should skip it

Good for: couples and small families who have fixed their dates, want the quiet end of Cameron Highlands rather than Brinchang's traffic, and are happy to commit money up front. Highland Escape is the best-value way into the house on our dates.

Skip it if: your plans might change. Every rate we saw carried a Non Refundable label, including the Best Flexible Rate, even though its offer page says changes or cancellations are allowed up to 7 days before arrival. If flexibility matters, read the rate details on the payment screen before you pay, or call the hotel on +60 5 495 6152.

Fine print that trips people up

  • 8% service tax is included in the booking engine totals above. The package pages quote rates "(+)" before it.
  • Pahang sustainability charge: RM3 per room per night, paid at check-out and not in the price.
  • Tourism tax: RM10 per room per night for non-Malaysian guests.
  • Tea & Scones on Highland Escape require a minimum 2-night booking made on the hotel's website, not through an online travel agent.
  • Dinner bookings: steamboat must be booked before noon and the English roast by 3pm on the same day, including when they come with a package.
  • Newsletter code: the booking page pops up an offer of a 10% promo code for signing up by email. We did not test whether it stacks with Highland Escape.

Getting there

Ringlet is the first town you reach on the Tapah road, before Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Driving from KL takes roughly three and a half hours depending on traffic, and the last stretch is a winding hill road. The Getaway package's Ipoh Airport taxi is the only transfer included in any of these rates. For other transfers, the hotel says it can arrange them on request.
