Tyres are one of the few car costs where the same product can differ by RM100 a corner depending on where you buy it. For a 205/55R16 Goodyear Assurance MaxGuard, a common 16-inch size, we found prices from RM330 to RM415 on 24 October 2026. The tyre was identical. What changed was whether fitting, balancing, the valve and disposal were included, and whether the price was a real selling price or a recommended one.

How to compare tyre quotes in Malaysia

Start with the size, printed on the sidewall. In 205/55R16 91V, 205 is the width in millimetres, 55 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width, R means radial, 16 is the rim in inches, 91 is the load index and V the speed rating. Your owner's manual or the sticker inside the driver's door gives the size the maker specifies. Ask for the same load index and speed rating, or higher.

Then ask what the price includes. The shops below that publish a fitted price include mounting and balancing; some add nitrogen, a new valve and disposal of the old tyre. Wheel alignment is almost always separate, at about RM40 for a normal car, and worth doing whenever you replace a pair.

Check the manufacturing date. The last four digits of the DOT code on the sidewall are the week and year, so 3825 means week 38 of 2025. Klinikar says its fast-moving sizes are mostly under 12 months old and labels stock over 24 months as clearance. A fresh date matters more than a few ringgit.

Know when you actually need tyres. Michelin and Bridgestone's Malaysian sites give 1.6mm as the minimum tread depth, and the tread wear bars moulded into the grooves sit at that height. paultan.org reported in June 2025 that JPJ now applies 1.6mm across the whole tread for commercial vehicles. If your tread is level with the bars, the tyre is due.

Finally, use the brand's recommended retail price as a ceiling, not a target. Goodyear's current list (dated April 2025) puts a 195/65R15 MaxGuard at RM320 and a 205/55R16 at RM415. Every shop below sells under that.

Where we looked

We read each operator's own website on 24 October 2026. Prices are per tyre in ringgit. We left out Shopee sellers we could not verify, plus several tyre sites whose domains no longer respond.

How to pick

If you know your size and just want the lowest fitted price for a mainstream brand, compare FastFit and Klinikar first; they publish full price lists with fitting included. If you would rather buy from a network with a road hazard warranty, Tayaria's 90-plus dealers and Michelin-backed Tyreplus cost more but come with brand-backed cover. If you cannot get to a workshop, a mobile fitter saves the trip at a higher price per tyre. Whatever you choose, ask for the DOT date before the tyre goes on, and budget about RM40 for alignment.
