> Quick view: Zoo Melaka's 5 September RM10 Night Safari has been and gone. The programme runs on the first Saturday of every month, so the next "Bila Larut Malam" is expected on Saturday, 3 October 2026 — not yet confirmed on the zoo's own channels as of 6 September. In the meantime there is a standing 10% ticket discount you can claim on any ordinary day, and almost nobody does.

Where this stands today

The September edition ran on Saturday, 5 September 2026 from 8:00pm at RM10 per person, capped at the first 1,200 visitors. That date has passed.

As of 6 September 2026, Zoo Melaka's homepage pop-up still carries the September poster, and the site's own activity log has not yet added an October entry. There is no October artwork, no October date and no October price published anywhere official. So the next edition is an expectation, not a booking.

Next up: Saturday, 3 October 2026 (expected)

The first-Saturday pattern is not a guess made by write-ups — it is visible in Zoo Melaka's own published activity log, which lists "01 Ogos 2026 — Bila Larut Malam Bulan Ogos 2026". 1 August and 5 September were both the first Saturday of their month. On that pattern:

  • October 2026: Saturday 3 October — expected
  • November 2026: Saturday 7 November — expected
  • December 2026: Saturday 5 December — expected

Treat all three as unconfirmed until the zoo posts the artwork. The September poster went up with the date, the 8:00pm start, the RM10 price and the 1,200 cap all printed on it, so when October's appears you will get the same detail in one image. One thing the poster is worth reading for every month: the September artwork carried "operasi tertakluk kepada keadaan cuaca" — the session is subject to weather — a caveat that appears in almost none of the general coverage.

The discount you can use today: photograph the Zoo Melaka boat

This is the part that survives between night-safari dates, and it is barely reported. Zoo Melaka and Perbadanan Pembangunan Sungai dan Pantai Melaka (PPSPM) run a tie-up around two themed boats on the Melaka River — the Bot Harimau (Malayan tiger livery, launched around World Tiger Day 2026) and the Bot Zebra. Photograph one and you get 10% off a Zoo Melaka ticket.

The steps, as the zoo publishes them:

  1. Take a photo — selfie or group — with the Zoo Melaka boat at Melaka River Cruise
  2. Upload it to Facebook or Instagram and tag @zoomelakaofficial
  3. Scan the QR code provided and fill in the form
  4. Upload the photo as proof of entry
  5. Show the proof at the Zoo Melaka ticket counter for verification

The terms are narrow and worth knowing before you plan around it: the discount is "sah digunakan untuk satu kali pembelian tiket ke Zoo Melaka sahaja" — valid for one ticket purchase only. The zoo describes it as running through 2026 without publishing a hard end date.

What it is worth in ringgit: 10% off a RM39.10 Malaysian adult ticket is RM3.91 off, or RM35.19 to pay. That is a long way short of the RM10 night rate — but it needs no particular Saturday, no 8pm arrival and no queue against a 1,200 cap.

What you actually save — and a figure to ignore

A lot of coverage says the RM10 rate is "down from RM35 adult / RM25 child". Those are not the Malaysian prices. RM35 / RM25 is the non-Malaysian night-safari rate quoted by ticket resellers, and it has been repeated as though it were the normal price everyone pays.

Here is what the operator itself publishes, re-checked on its rate card on 6 September 2026. Zoo Melaka lists one set of admission prices, tax included, with no separate night-safari tier:

  • Malaysian adult (13-59): RM39.10 — so RM10 saves you RM29.10
  • Malaysian child (4-12): RM18.95 — RM10 saves RM8.95
  • Malaysian senior (60+): RM18.95 — RM10 saves RM8.95
  • Infant (0-3): free, promo or not
  • Non-Malaysian adult / child / senior: RM90.05 / RM64.00 / RM49.75
  • Note: prices include service charge and entertainment tax, and the counter checks MyKad or passport to decide which column you are in

Ticket resellers separately list a night-only Malaysian ticket at roughly RM25 adult / RM15 child. Measure the RM10 against either number and it still wins — but the honest headline saving for a Malaysian adult is against RM39.10, not RM35.

The extras rate card most write-ups skip

Admission is not the whole bill. Zoo Melaka publishes its add-ons, and on a family visit they add up faster than the ticket does:

  • Zoo tram: RM7 adult, RM5 child / OKU / senior — per person, per one-way trip
  • Animal feed: RM5 per packet
  • Private buggy (5 pax): RM100 per hour
  • Private E-Buss (13 pax): RM150 per hour
  • Wheelchair: RM5 for a full day, plus a RM50 deposit

Buggy and E-Buss are subject to vehicle availability, so ring ahead rather than turning up expecting one. Note the tram is charged one-way per person: a family of four riding out and back is RM48 on top of admission, which on a RM10 night is nearly five times the entry price.

The zoo also runs group and school packages — School Package, Zoolunteer, Zoo Troopers and Zoomanji (an interactive treasure-hunt conservation programme) — but publishes no rates for them, so pricing is by enquiry on 018-260 9063 or 011-1285 2789.

How to get in: counter only

There is still no way to buy this in advance. Zoo Melaka's online booking page reads "Halaman tempahan sedang dibina" — the booking system is under construction — re-checked on 6 September 2026, unchanged. Every night-safari ticket is sold at the gate on the night. Bring a physical MyKad or MyKid; the RM10 rate is tied to showing it.

That makes arrival time the whole game, and the counter closes on the cap, not the clock. Earlier editions also carried a hard 10:30pm counter close, so whichever comes first is your deadline.

How busy is it really? The best public number is modest: state coverage of one 2025 edition recorded just over 230 visitors by 10pm — well under the 1,200 cap. Attendance has almost certainly grown since the programme went viral, but there is no published edition where the cap is confirmed sold out, so treat "sells out" claims with some caution and turn up at 8pm anyway.

Where, and what is there

Zoo Melaka, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, 75450 Ayer Keroh, Melaka — Malaysia's second-largest zoo after Zoo Negara, 54 acres (22 hectares) holding 1,200-plus animals across more than 100 species. Established in 1963, run by the Melaka state government until PERHILITAN took over administration in 1979, and officially opened to the public on 13 August 1987.

The 2026 collection includes Malayan tiger, African white lion, Asian elephant, white rhino, Malayan tapir, gibbon, orangutan, chimpanzee, sun bear, giraffe, serow and binturong; the bird house holds macaw, sulphur-crested cockatoo, lory, ostrich, emu and southern cassowary, and the reptile displays include false gharial, green iguana, alligator snapping turtle and python. The zoo puts it at 19 minutes (13km) from Melaka city centre.

Regular hours: Monday to Friday 10:00am-5:00pm (counter closes 4:00pm); weekends and public holidays 9:00am-6:00pm (counter closes 5:00pm).

On site: cafe and restaurant, food stalls, vending machines, toilets, surau, baby changing room, first aid, souvenir shop, lockers, and OKU parking.

The zoo's own visitor advice is short and worth following at night: wear comfortable shoes and bring insect repellent.

A tax angle most people miss

Zoo Melaka flags that admission to local tourism attractions qualifies for Malaysia's domestic tourism tax relief of up to RM1,000, subject to the conditions set by LHDN. Keep the receipt — on a family outing the full-price day tickets, not the RM10 promo night, are where that actually adds up.

Fine print

  • The RM10 rate is for Malaysians showing a MyKad or MyKid at the counter; the operator does not publish a promo rate for foreign visitors, so non-Malaysians should ask at the gate
  • Regular daytime admission is a separate, full-price ticket — the RM10 rate applies only on a Bila Larut Malam night
  • Third-party coverage as recent as 30 July 2026 says visitors in full traditional Melaka attire get free admission, under the state's Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) push. The September poster did not repeat the offer, so treat it as unconfirmed and ask at the counter before counting on it
  • The boat photo discount and the RM10 night rate are separate mechanics; the zoo does not publish terms for combining them, so assume you use one or the other
  • The zoo now operates as Amazing Zoo Melaka at amazingzoomelaka.com.my. The older zoomelaka.gov.my address no longer resolves at all, so ignore any link pointing there

Tips

  • Do not plan an October trip around a date the zoo has not posted yet — check the pop-up on amazingzoomelaka.com.my in the last week of September, when the poster typically lands
  • If you cannot wait, the boat photo discount works on an ordinary weekday and turns RM39.10 into RM35.19
  • Go at 8pm sharp on a night edition — the counter closes on the cap or 10:30pm, whichever comes first
  • Budget for the tram before you go: at RM7 per adult per one-way trip it can outrun the ticket on a RM10 night
  • Night is genuinely a different visit: cooler than a Melaka afternoon, and the nocturnal animals are awake rather than asleep behind a rock
  • Pair it with Bandar Hilir — finish the historic quarter around 6pm, eat, then drive the 13km out to Ayer Keroh
