Since 1 July 2025, private and international school fees above RM60,000 per student per academic year carry 6 per cent service tax. In Penang that line does not separate the expensive schools from the affordable ones. It cuts through the middle of individual schools. At Prince of Wales Island International School the Balik Pulau Year 10 fee is RM60,300, which is RM300 over. At Dalat the top grade is RM59,000, which is RM1,000 under. At Stonyhurst the Malaysian rate card tops out at RM59,850, RM150 below the line, while the non-Malaysian card crosses it four year groups earlier.
