Joining the free ONYX Rewards programme takes another 16% off, so a Superior King on a mid-October Saturday drops from RM532 to RM357 a night before tax. The rate keeps free cancellation up to seven days before arrival, which most hotel sales do not.

Amari Johor Bahru is a 242-room city hotel on Jalan Trus, a short walk from Johor Bahru's old town and about five minutes from JB Sentral and the Causeway checkpoint. The lobby is on the 6th floor, next to the pool deck. It belongs to Thailand's ONYX Hospitality Group, and the offer is called Indulgence Made for Together. Every price below was read from Amari's own offers page and its booking engine on 27 September 2026, for two adults.

What the offer gives you

  • 20% off Superior, Deluxe and Grand Deluxe rooms, sold room-only or with breakfast.
  • 25% off Executive Club rooms, Deluxe Pool Access rooms, the Junior Suite and the One Bedroom Suite, all with breakfast.
  • Up to 16% more for ONYX Rewards members. The two discounts multiply rather than add, so members save 32.8% on the lower room types and 37% on the higher ones.
  • On the higher room types, Amari's offer page also lists an RM120 dining credit and an RM60 spa credit, triple ONYX points, and free Club Lounge access for suites. The credit needs a stay of at least two nights.
  • Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival. Nothing is charged until that window closes, apart from a small card check.

Real prices: Saturday 17 to Monday 19 October

These are per night, before tax, for two adults.

  • Superior King, room only: flexible rate RM532. Indulgence RM426. Member RM357.
  • Superior King with breakfast: flexible rate RM612. Indulgence RM490. Member RM411.
  • Deluxe Pool Access King with breakfast (a room with a terrace that opens onto the pool): flexible rate RM966. Indulgence RM724. Member RM608.
  • Junior Suite with breakfast: flexible rate RM1,259. Indulgence RM944. Member RM793.

Midweek is cheaper. On Wednesday 14 October the Superior King room-only rate was RM415, or RM278 for members. On Saturday 19 December, the day after the window closes, the offer had disappeared from the booking engine and the same room was listed at RM685.

Worked examples with tax

The booking engine adds taxes and fees at checkout. For the two-night Superior King stay it added RM153 to RM852, which is about 18%. Malaysians and permanent residents do not pay the RM10 a night Tourism Tax. Singaporeans and other foreign guests pay it at check-in.

  • Two nights, Superior King, room only, not a member: RM852 + RM153 = RM1,005. Sign up for ONYX first and the same stay is about RM844, saving roughly RM161 for filling in a form.
  • Is breakfast worth adding? On that Saturday, breakfast for two added RM64 a night before tax. Amaya Food Gallery's weekend breakfast buffet is RM75 nett per adult if you walk in, so the package breakfast costs about half.
  • Two nights, Deluxe Pool Access King, member: RM1,217 + 18% = about RM1,436 with breakfast, pool-side terrace and, if Amari honours it, the RM120 dining and RM60 spa credit. A non-member pays about RM1,710.

When a package beats the discount

Amari is running two tax-inclusive packages until 31 October that you should compare against the discount.

Blissful Staycation, RM490 a night including tax: a Superior room with buffet breakfast *and* a semi-buffet lunch for two. On 17 October the Indulgence rate for the same room with breakfast was RM490 before tax, about RM578 after. So for non-members, the package is roughly RM88 a night cheaper and includes lunch. A member's rate (about RM485 after tax) is almost level with it, but without the lunch. The catch is that the package needs a deposit, while Indulgence lets you cancel free up to a week before.

More Moments Together, RM2,670 for two nights including tax: a Junior Suite with breakfast, semi-buffet lunch for two, a three-tier afternoon tea and a 60-minute spa treatment for two. Two nights in the same suite on the Indulgence rate cost about RM2,228 after tax, or about RM1,871 for members. If you would book the spa and afternoon tea anyway, the package is fair. If not, the discounted room plus club access is better value.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits Malaysians planning a JB weekend or a Singapore shopping trip who want to be near the checkpoint without paying Causeway-side prices, and couples who would enjoy a pool-access room. The free cancellation also helps anyone whose dates might change.

Skip it if you just need a bed near CIQ: a Superior room at roughly RM330 to RM500 a night after tax is not budget travel. It is also for booking on amari.com only, so Agoda or Booking.com prices will not reflect it.

Fine print that trips people up

  • Book by 31 October, stay by 18 December. A December stay still has to be booked this month.
  • Rates on the booking page exclude about 18% tax and fees. The two packages already include it.
  • Deposit versus pay later: Indulgence charges your card after the 7-day free cancellation window. Cancel within 7 days and you are charged one night.
  • The booking engine's wording differs from the offer page. The rate card mentions a three-night minimum in "selected higher room categories" for extra benefits, while the offer page says two nights earns the credits. Ask Amari to confirm your credits in writing (+60 7 266 8888).
  • Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 12pm.
