Melaka plays its badminton in converted factory halls, most of them on the industrial estates that ring the city: Krubong, Bukit Rambai, Tanjung Minyak, Alor Gajah. The courts are rubber almost everywhere, prices sit in a narrow RM12 to RM20 band, and nearly every hall sells its slots through one booking app, AFA (Athletes For Athletes, at playsportstogether.com). That makes Melaka easier to compare than most cities. It also means the rules that differ between halls (when peak starts, whether you can cancel, how the late evening is sold) matter more than the headline rate.
We read the rate card on each hall's AFA listing on 22 October 2026 and checked its live booking grid the same day, which shows court numbers and confirms the hall is taking bookings. Courtsite, which most Klang Valley halls use, lists no badminton hall in Melaka. Halls that publish no rate at all are named at the end rather than ranked.
How to choose a hall in Melaka
Know when peak starts. It varies more than the price. KSBB and UTeM switch to the evening rate at 5pm, Juara Kampung and SPORTS99 at 6pm, Seed at 7pm, and Cael Deon not until 8pm. If your group can start at 6.30pm, that alone can decide the hall.
Check the block pricing. Heng Ann charges RM20 an hour but RM50 for three, and SPORTS99 sells evening hours at RM19 for one, RM35 for two and RM49 for three. A regular three-hour session costs less per head at either than its hourly rate suggests.
Assume every booking is final. KSBB and Heng Ann both say confirmed bookings cannot be cancelled; KSBB lets you move to another free slot, while Heng Ann does not allow rescheduling at all. Read the policy on each hall's card before you pay. Book the weekly slot you can actually keep.
Bring non-marking shoes. Juara Kampung states it on its card, and every rubber court expects it.
Late-night games are a Melaka thing. KSBB runs until 6.30am, SPORTS99 until 2am, and Cael Deon until 2am on Saturdays. After midnight, KSBB drops back to RM16 and Cael Deon to RM18, below their evening rates.
The numbers that matter
For a weekday evening doubles game of two hours, split four ways, the court costs about RM8.50 a head at Seed, RM8.75 at SPORTS99, RM9 at KSBB's standard courts and RM10 at Heng Ann, UTeM, Cael Deon or Juara Kampung. The spread across the whole city is RM1.50 a person. Location and court availability will decide it for most groups, not price.
For daytime play, Seed (RM12, 10am to 7pm weekdays), Cael Deon (RM14, 9am to 7pm) and Juara Kampung (RM14, 10am to 6pm) are the cheapest. Weekends are flatter: RM16 to RM20 almost everywhere, with SPORTS99's RM19 hour and KSBB's RM18 day rate in between.
How to pick
- Living in town or Klebang: Heng Ann for a central hall, Seed in Tanjung Minyak for the lowest rate.
- Ayer Keroh, Batu Berendam or the MITC side: KSBB for court availability, UTeM Holdings for a newer hall.
- Krubong and Bukit Rambai: Cael Deon if you want showers, changing rooms and the late peak; Juara Kampung if you play straight after work.
- Alor Gajah: SPORTS99, the only priced hall out there, with four courts, so book early.
Two more halls were taking bookings on 22 October but publish no rate: Jebat Racquet Sports Centre in Bukit Beruang (14 rubber courts, open 8am to 1am, the hall in our cover photo) and GLY Badminton Hall in Krubong (7 courts). Message them before you go. Council halls run by Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah are another option, but the council's site could not be reached when we checked, so we have not quoted its rates.
