Melaka sells itself as a weekend that costs very little, and for a Malaysian family that is broadly true. The gap between what a MyKad holder pays and what a foreign passport holder pays here is among the widest of any Malaysian state, and it is not applied consistently: some operators double the price, one adds barely a quarter, and three do not distinguish at all.
We read the published price of eight Melaka attractions on 20 September 2026, every one of them on the operator's own website or inside its own ticketing system rather than on a resale platform.
What a family actually pays
Take two adults and two children aged eight, and do three things in a day: the PERZIM core museum complex, Menara Taming Sari, and Zoo Melaka.
On MyKad that is RM30 at the museums, RM70 at the tower and RM116.10 at the zoo. RM216.10 for the day.
On foreign passports the same three stops cost RM60, RM70 and RM308.10. RM438.10.
The tower charges both families the same. The museums double. The zoo is where the difference actually lives.
The gap is a decision, not a rule
There is no single Melaka rate for non-Malaysians. Each operator sets its own.
- Zoo Melaka: RM39.10 against RM90.05 for an adult, a difference of RM50.95, the widest on this list.
- Encore Melaka: RM78 against RM158, a difference of RM80 in absolute terms and just over two times in relative terms.
- PERZIM museums: RM10 against RM20, an exact doubling across the whole network.
- Melaka Wonderland: RM43 against RM54 on a weekday, a difference of RM11, and the only operator here that explicitly extends its MyKad rate to Singaporeans.
- Menara Taming Sari, The Shore Sky Tower and The Shore Oceanarium: no nationality split published at all.
- A'Famosa: its online express ticket page states plainly that it is applicable for Malaysian only, so the online price simply is not available to a foreign visitor.
The child rate that disappears
Every other ticket on this list gives a foreign child a discount off the foreign adult rate. Zoo Melaka charges a foreign child RM64 against RM90.05 for an adult. Melaka Wonderland charges RM47.50 against RM54. PERZIM charges RM10 against RM20.
Encore Melaka does not. Its own ticketing system prices a non-Malaysian adult, child, senior citizen, OKU cardholder and wheelchair user at exactly RM158 each. The same five categories for a Malaysian split into RM78 for an adult and RM48 for everybody else. A Malaysian family of four sees RM252; a foreign family of four sees RM632. The show is the same 70 minutes for both.
Two operators tell you about the tax, six do not
Zoo Melaka's price list is the giveaway. Adult RM39.10, child RM18.95, senior RM18.95, foreign adult RM90.05. Those are not marketing numbers, and its own note explains why: prices include service charge and entertainment tax. The Shore Oceanarium is the only other one to say so, printing that its RM40 Premium Plus ticket is inclusive of 10% entertainment tax.
The other six publish clean round numbers with no note at all. That does not mean tax is absent; it means the operator has not told you whether it is inside or outside the figure. Melaka levies entertainment duty at state level, so this is not a trivial detail if you are buying for a group.
The closing day and the counter clock
Three separate timing traps can cost you a stop.
PERZIM's museums open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, with last entry at 4:30pm, and close on Mondays. Melaka Wonderland also closes on Mondays, except during school and public holidays. A'Famosa closes on Tuesdays, again except for public and school holidays. Plan a Monday and Tuesday trip badly and half this list is shut.
Then there is the counter, which is not the same as the gate. Zoo Melaka runs 10:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays but shuts its ticket counter at 4:00pm, and 9:00am to 6:00pm at weekends with the counter closing at 5:00pm. A'Famosa runs its Safari and Water World to 6:00pm but stops ticket redemption at 3:30pm. Arriving at four for a park that closes at six can mean not getting in at all.
Where the discounts actually are
Three of the eight publish a real, standing discount rather than a seasonal promotion.
Melaka Wonderland gives up to 10% off theme park tickets and up to 20% off lake activities bought online; re-read on 20 September 2026, its ticket-pricing page states the discounts but no longer prints the two-day advance-purchase condition it previously carried, so check the cart before assuming a same-day e-ticket qualifies. Zoo Melaka offers 10% off for taking a photograph with its own Bot Harimau or Bot Zebra. A'Famosa sells an Annual Pass Kit covering both Safari Wonderland and Water World at RM319 per person, which pays for itself at the third visit if you would otherwise buy both parks twice.
Also worth knowing: Zoo Melaka's own site points out that admission to a local tourist attraction can qualify for the domestic tourism personal tax relief, subject to the conditions set by the authorities.
One honest note on third-party listings
Two of the prices above are higher than what resale sites and roundups are still quoting. Encore Melaka's own ticketing system charged RM78 for a Malaysian adult and RM158 for a non-Malaysian on 20 September 2026, where a number of third-party pages still show RM68 and RM138. Melaka Wonderland's own price page shows RM43 for a MyKad adult on a weekday, where several listings still show RM36. Where the operator's own system and a resale page disagree, the operator's system is what you will be charged at the gate.
We also left the Melaka River Cruise out of the priced list. Its booking portal would not display a rate to us on 20 September, and its main site publishes operating hours, jetty locations and a 45-minute, roughly 9km route but no price, so we have not printed one.
The two cheapest tickets in Melaka are not on this price list
Both are published by the operators themselves, and neither appears on a ticket page.
Zoo Melaka's own night safari costs RM10. The zoo runs a programme called Bila Larut Malam on the first Saturday of every month, 8:00pm to 11:00pm, with the ticket counter closing at 10:30pm and admission capped at 1,200 visitors. Entry is RM10 per person on production of a MyKad or MyKid, against the RM39.10 the same person pays in daylight, and anyone arriving in full traditional Melaka ethnic attire gets in free. The zoo's own poster confirmed the Saturday 3 October 2026 edition; on the same first-Saturday pattern the next is expected on Saturday 7 November, unconfirmed until its poster appears (October's went up five days ahead; no November poster was on the zoo's site when we re-checked on 29 October 2026, and every price on this page still matched the operators' own pages that day). Note what this does to the gap: it is a MyKad rate with no foreign equivalent, so on that one Saturday the widest gap on this list gets wider, not narrower. The state sells a RM5 booklet that discounts two stops on this list. The Melaka Tourism Passport is a RM5 physical booklet from the state government, valid through 2026, covering 63 participating tourism products. The rates published by name include 10% off Menara Taming Sari and 10% off the Melaka River Cruise, and up to 20% at Bayou Lagoon Water Park, the Magic Art 3D Museum and the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum. It is sold at the Tourism Melaka kiosks in Bandar Hilir, at the Menara Taming Sari counter, at the Melaka River Cruise boarding point and at Zoo Melaka itself, so you can buy it at the gate of somewhere you are already going. It is also the only discount on this page with no nationality condition attached, which makes it the one saving a foreign visitor can actually buy. Make sure you buy the right RM5 booklet. Melaka runs two of them at once, and they are the same price and the same pocket-sized format:
- The Melaka Tourism Passport is the state government's discount card, covering 63 tourism products across the whole state. This is the one that takes money off the tickets on this page.
- The Guardian of Jonker Walk Passport is the Jonker Walk Committee's booklet, launched in June 2025 for Jonker Walk's 25th anniversary and covering around ten premises on and around Jonker Walk. It is a stamp rally, not a discount card: each participating shop gives you its own differently designed stamp plus a small gift, and the booklet carries a map and notes on the buildings. More than 4,000 of the first print run of 5,000 had sold by February 2026. It does not reduce admission anywhere on this list.
They are sold in different places too. The Jonker Walk booklet goes through the Jonker Walk Committee Building, the Malaysia-China Friendship Gallery, the Jaya Mata Malaysia Knife Gallery, Malaqa Cultural House and Baba House Melaka, none of which sell the state one.
How to plan a day around these prices
Put the museums first, because RM10 buys the most hours of anything in the list, and because the 4:30pm last entry is the earliest cut-off of the eight.
Decide early between the two towers. Menara Taming Sari is a seven-minute revolving ride for RM20 and sits in the heart of Bandar Hilir; The Shore Sky Tower is RM25 on a weekday and RM35 from Friday to Sunday and sits across the river. They are not interchangeable, but few people pay for both.
Treat the zoo and the theme parks as separate days, not separate stops. Zoo Melaka is 54 acres in Ayer Keroh; A'Famosa is a resort in Alor Gajah with two separate parks; Melaka Wonderland is a water park plus lake activities priced individually on top of admission.
And if you are travelling with non-Malaysian family, check the nationality line before you commit to a plan. At the tower and the two Shore attractions it costs nothing extra. At the zoo and at Encore it roughly doubles the day.
