Orders run from 18 to 24 September 2026 and collection from 25 to 27 September, which covers Mid-Autumn Festival itself on Friday 25 September. Only 7 of the chain's 18 Malaysian outlets take part, quantities are limited, the butane canister is not included, and the set contains pork.

Bar B Q Plaza is the Thai self-grill chain known for its domed pan ringed with shredded cabbage. In Malaysia it is run by Food Icon Sdn Bhd and has 18 outlets, all in Peninsular Malaysia, starting with 1 Utama in 2005. The set was announced on the chain's official Instagram on 17 September 2026, in Chinese only. We read the poster and caption, then priced the set against the dine-in menu and buffet on Bar B Q Plaza's own website.

What is in the set

The caption promises prawns, shellfish, fresh meat and seafood but gives no weights. From the poster photo, the set includes:

  • Four bowls of garlic fried rice
  • A large plate of sliced pork
  • A meat and seafood plate with bacon, prawns, mussels, fish slices and a portion of red meat
  • A vegetable plate with enoki mushrooms, baby corn, carrot, crab sticks, fried tofu and lettuce
  • A plate of shredded cabbage, which goes around the rim of the pan
  • Free: a black grill pan and a portable gas stove. The poster says the butane gas canister is not included.

The photo is the only guide to portions, so treat it as illustrative.

How to order, step by step

  1. Choose one of the 7 outlets and contact it between 18 and 24 September. The Instagram caption lists a mobile number for each outlet (below).
  2. Confirm how the order is taken. The post doesn't say whether you order by WhatsApp, by phone or at the counter, and a follower was already asking the same question under the post. Call the number first.
  3. Pick a collection day: 25, 26 or 27 September. The artwork shows a "GON Delivery" bag, but the caption only talks about collection, so don't count on delivery unless the outlet offers it.
  4. Buy a butane canister before the night. The stove won't work without one.

What RM188++ really costs

Bar B Q Plaza's menu says its prices are subject to a 10% service charge and 6% SST. If both are added to this set, you pay RM219.21 (RM188 plus RM18.80 service charge, then RM12.41 SST). If only SST applies, you pay RM199.28. The poster doesn't say which, so ask when you order. At RM219.21, that works out to about RM54.80 a head for four people, or RM73.07 for three.

Set versus dining in

These are the chain's own dine-in prices, from its website on 17 September 2026:

  • Happy Refill buffet: RM49.90++ per adult for 120 minutes. Children 90cm to 140cm tall pay RM19.90++, children under 90cm eat free, and seniors aged 60 and above get 50% off.
  • Super Refill buffet: RM59.90++ per adult, with seafood such as salmon belly, oysters and scallops added.
  • Member Set (3-4 pax, à la carte): RM89.90, normally RM109.90 (the name suggests it is aimed at GON members, so ask). It lists pork roll, pork, bacon, sea shrimp, mussels, toman fish fillet, garlic fried rice, udon, vegetables and cabbage.
  • Deluxe Family Set (3-4 pax): RM86.90, with beef, lamb, salmon and squid alongside the pork.

The Mid-Autumn set looks close to a dine-in 3-4 pax set, which costs about half as much. We can't compare portions exactly because no weights are published. Roughly, the extra RM98 before charges pays for the pan, the stove and eating at home.

Worked examples

Four adults on Mid-Autumn night. The Happy Refill buffet costs RM199.60++, or RM232.73 with charges, for two hours at the restaurant on a festival Friday. The set costs RM219.21 at most, and you keep the pan and stove. You don't get refills, though, so four big eaters may run short.

Two adults and two children between 90cm and 140cm. At the buffet: two adults at RM49.90 and two children at RM19.90 come to RM139.60++, or RM162.77. The set costs about RM56 more, and a child under 90cm would have eaten free.

Two adults and two parents aged 60 or above. With the senior discount, the buffet comes to RM149.70++, or RM174.55. Unless your parents would rather stay home, dine in.

Three adults. The buffet costs RM149.70++, or RM174.55, against RM219.21 for the set. The set only makes sense if you plan to use the grill pan again.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Good for: groups of four adults who want a home reunion dinner without cooking, live near one of the 7 outlets, and would use a mookata-style pan again.

Skip it if: you avoid pork (the set includes sliced pork and bacon), you have young children or senior parents who get buffet discounts, your nearest outlet is one that isn't taking part (all of Johor Bahru, Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Velocity, Kepong, Central i-City, Bukit Tinggi or Gurney Plaza), or you already own a grill pan and stove.

Fine print that trips people up

  • The order window is short. Orders close on 24 September and collection is only from 25 to 27 September.
  • Quantities are limited. The poster says the set is available only while stocks last.
  • No gas. The butane canister is not included.
  • "++" is not explained. Confirm the final amount before paying.
  • No weights and no written terms. The poster and caption are the only published details, and they are in Chinese.
  • Only 7 outlets. Penang's Gurney Plaza outlet and all Johor Bahru outlets are left out.
