> Quick view: Mid-Autumn Festival 2026 lands on Friday 25 September. When this guide first went up in July, most brands had not published their 2026 rates. That has changed — re-checked on 31 August 2026, seven of the eight below now have a full, official rate card, so the ringgit here are real. Two things matter most if you are ordering this week: every hotel early-bird has closed, and the deadline that actually binds you is the delivery cut-off, not the festival.

When is Mid-Autumn 2026, and how long have you actually got?

Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节) falls on 25 September 2026, a Friday. From the start of September that is a little over three weeks — but the useful dates are the ordering and collection windows, which close earlier and differ by brand:

  • Tai Thong stops taking delivery orders on 20 September 2026. It ships to West Malaysia only, takes 3 to 5 working days, and does not deliver on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays. Order by around 14 September if you want the box in your hands.
  • Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur collection runs 1 August to 25 September.
  • Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur runs 8 July to 25 September.
  • Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur sells 25 June to 25 September.
  • EQ Kuala Lumpur runs to 26 September — the only one here that outlives the festival by a day.

Every early-bird has closed. Here is what is still live.

This is the single most useful thing to know at the end of August, and the reason most July round-ups are now misleading. All four hotel early-birds have run and finished: Mandarin Oriental's 20% ended 31 July, Shangri-La's 15% ended 30 July, EQ's 15% ended 15 August, and Four Seasons' 15% ended 20 August.

What is genuinely still running on 31 August:

  • Shangri-La Circle members take 10% off all mooncake purchases at the Shangri-La Boutique with promo code SLCMAF26, valid 31 July to 25 September 2026. Membership is free, which makes this the only straightforward discount left on a hotel box.
  • Four Seasons gives 10% on orders of 20 boxes or more, and its own site advertises corporate privileges from 50 boxes.
  • Shangri-La bulk rates are steeper if you are buying for an office: 15% off 200 to 599 boxes, 20% off 600 or more, on a single receipt. Logo customisation needs 100 boxes and seven working days.
  • EQ bulk pricing drops the Miniature Collection to RM110+ and the Longevity Collection to RM142+ a box.
  • Tai Thong is discounting its own online store — baked singles marked down from RM17.80 to RM26.30 list, to roughly RM16 to RM22.80 — and knocks RM10 off the delivery fee for every RM220 on a single receipt.
  • Purple Cane has cut its Moonlit Banquet Delight box from RM143.50 to RM79.90, and the Golden Time box from RM118.70 to RM108.

How we chose

Every brand below is a real, currently-trading Malaysian mooncake maker with an official ordering channel, and every price was read off that brand's own shop, brochure or press release on 31 August 2026 — not off an aggregator. We have mixed price points and styles deliberately, from a RM12.80 tea mooncake to a RM528 durian keepsake box, so there is something here for gifting, for praying and for simply eating.

Where a brand could not be priced from its own channel, we say so plainly rather than borrow a number from somewhere else. That applies to exactly one brand this year, and it is flagged on its card.

The images in this guide are each brand's own gift-box packaging or official brand imagery, taken from their 2026 Mid-Autumn campaign materials. Box designs and flavours can still be refreshed through the season, so check each brand's official page to confirm this year's line-up before ordering.

What a mooncake actually costs in 2026

There is no single answer, but the spread is now fully mapped. Read as price per single mooncake, the eight brands stack up like this:

  • RM12.80 to RM18.30 — Purple Cane's 100g tea mooncakes. The cheapest way onto this list by a wide margin.
  • RM16 to RM22.80 — Tai Thong baked singles at current online sale prices (RM17.80 to RM26.30 at list).
  • RM18.50 to RM32.80 — Oversea, with the Momoyama snow-skin-style range at a flat RM26.80.
  • RM43 to RM68 — Shangri-La, where RM43 buys white lotus and RM68 buys Musang King snow skin.
  • RM45 to RM68 — Mandarin Oriental, flat RM45 across baked, snow skin and chocolate, with Musang King at RM68.
  • RM47 to RM89 — Four Seasons, the dearest per piece here. Its Musang King durian paste snow skin at RM89 is the single most expensive mooncake in this guide.

By the box, the range is far wider:

  • RM28.60 buys Purple Cane's entry Moonlit Banquet gift set.
  • RM74 to RM131.20 covers an Oversea four-piece; its Lunar Rise gift set is RM168.
  • RM80.30 to RM86.30 buys a Tai Thong four-piece tin or paper combo on sale.
  • RM128+ to RM298+ covers EQ's Miniature, Vintage, Longevity and Autumn Jade boxes.
  • RM218 to RM688 covers Mandarin Oriental, from a box of four to the limited heritage-inspired set.
  • RM318 to RM528 covers Shangri-La's keepsake boxes, topping out at the Golden Musang King snow skin set.
  • RM1,088+ to RM9,888+ is EQ's Premium Collection, which pairs four baked mooncakes with a bottle — Veuve Clicquot at the bottom, Hennessy Paradis at the top.

One piece of fine print worth internalising: EQ quotes every price with a plus sign, meaning before prevailing government tax. A RM298+ box is not a RM298 box. The hotel brochures from Shangri-La and the Mandarin Oriental online shop quote the figure you actually pay.

How to choose

  • For praying and traditional gifting: classic baked lotus paste with single or double yolk. Tai Thong and Oversea are the heritage benchmarks, and both sit under RM27 a piece.
  • For something modern: snow skin, lava custard and chocolate from the hotels. Mandarin Oriental's Artisanal Chocolate line and EQ's new Uji Matcha Snowy Pistachio are this year's genuinely new things.
  • For less sweetness: Purple Cane makes its tea mooncakes with less sugar, less oil and no preservatives, and labels several boxes vegan. Oversea's less-sweet white lotus is RM24.50.
  • For durian: Musang King is offered at RM68 by both Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental, at RM89 by Four Seasons, and at RM26.80 by Oversea. Shangri-La will also sell you eight snow skin Musang King in a keepsake box for RM528.
  • For a corporate order: Shangri-La's 20% at 600 boxes is the deepest bulk rate here, with EQ next on per-box bulk pricing.

Ordering tips

  • Stop looking for an early-bird. All four closed between 30 July and 20 August 2026. Any guide still advertising one is out of date.
  • Join Shangri-La Circle before you order if a hotel box is what you want — it is free, and the 10% code SLCMAF26 runs to 25 September.
  • Watch the delivery cut-off, not the festival. Tai Thong's is 20 September, West Malaysia only, with no weekend or public-holiday delivery.
  • Check Halal status if it matters for your gifting. Not every hotel mooncake is Halal-certified, and certification can change year to year, so read the mark on the box you are actually buying.
  • Snow skin often is not a delivery item. Tai Thong's entire snow skin range is sold offline only, through hypermarkets and its own kiosks.

The one brand we could not price

Kam Lun Tai is the exception on this list. The brand is still trading and its durian mooncakes are still stocked by Chinese bakeries and the major marketplaces, but its own website, klt.com.my, returned a bandwidth-limit error on every attempt on 31 August 2026, and no official 2026 range or price list was reachable through any channel the brand controls.

We have left the card in place because the brand has not closed, but we have not borrowed a price from a reseller to fill the gap. If durian is non-negotiable for your table, buy it at a counter where you can see the box and the current Halal mark before you pay — and do not count on the website being up when you check.
