> Quick view: The Harvey Norman Sunshine Central price slash ended on 9 September 2026 as scheduled. Its campaign page is still live and still advertises the dead 27 Aug to 9 Sep window, so do not read it as current. Harvey Norman has moved the same store-only format to IOI Mall Kulai, Johor (10–16 September) and to its new Coalfields store in Sungai Buloh (10–23 September). Re-checked on 10 September 2026: of the four products that appear on both the Penang and Kulai lists, Penang was cheaper on one, dearer on two and level on one — and on the level one, the "store exclusive" price is also the national online price.
The Penang slash is finished. What it leaves behind is more useful than the sale itself was: four model numbers that Harvey Norman priced twice, in two different stores, within a fortnight. That tells you exactly what "in-store exclusive" is worth.
The Penang campaign is over, but its page is still up
Harvey Norman Sunshine Central's Limited Time Price Slash ran 27 August to 9 September 2026 and closed on schedule. Checked on 10 September 2026, `harveynorman.com.my/promotions/sunshine-mall-limited-time-exclusives.html` still loads, and still carries the line "Shop incredible deals from 27 Aug to 9 Sep 2026" above its five department tabs. A live page is not proof of a live sale.
Two things confirm it is dead. The card has been removed from Harvey Norman's catalogues-and-promotions index, which is the page the brand actually maintains — and so has its twin, 168 Selayang Limited Time Exclusives. Meanwhile the nationwide sale this article originally measured against has gone the other way: `promotions/merdeka-super-sale.html` now returns a hard "Page Not Found".
That asymmetry is worth internalising. Harvey Norman deletes some expired campaign pages and leaves others standing. Check the catalogues-and-promotions index, not the campaign URL, when you want to know whether an offer is alive.
The same format is now running in Johor and Selangor
The store-only slash was never a one-off for Penang. Harvey Norman runs it as a rotating store-level format, and two are live right now:
- Harvey Norman IOI Mall Kulai Malaysia Day Sale — 10 to 16 September 2026, billed at up to 70% off, across the same five departments Penang ran: Electrical Appliances, Small Electrical Appliances, Computers & Mobile Devices, Furniture and Bedding. The store is at L125-10 & DL-01, First Floor, IOI Mall Kulai, Lebuh Putra Utama, Johor 81000, open 10am to 10pm, on 07-664 0363. The campaign page also carries a Fujitec massage chair and foot massager try-out on 12–13 September (Sat–Sun), 10am to 10pm.
- Harvey Norman Coalfields soft opening — 10 to 23 September 2026, a new-store opening sale at Lot UG-01, Upper Ground Floor, Pusat Beli-Belah Coalfields, No. 1 Lengkok BSC 2/3, Presint 2 Bandar Seri Coalfields, 47000 Sungai Buloh, Selangor, open 10am to 10pm daily, on 03-8655 8020. Harvey Norman spells it both "Coalfields" and "Coalsfield" on that same page; the mall's own name is Coalfields.
Kulai's list runs 30 products, six per department, against Penang's 20. It is the bigger list — but not, item for item, the better one.
The four products Harvey Norman priced twice
These are every model number that appears on both the Penang list (27 Aug–9 Sep) and the Kulai list (10–16 Sep), with each store's own published was-price and now-price.
The pattern is not "store prices are cheaper". It is store prices are different. Penang won the Philips TV by RM300, and still won it by RM100 after counting the RM200 of vouchers Kulai staples on. Kulai wins the HP laptop by RM100 and the Honor phone by RM102. The Asus is a dead heat — and that dead heat is the most revealing number on the list.
One caveat on the Honor. The Penang panel specified 256GB, Reddish Brown; the Kulai panel names no capacity and no colour at all. Confirm the configuration at the counter before treating RM1,297 as a straight RM102 saving on the same phone.
"In-store exclusive" did not survive contact with the website
The Penang campaign's terms said its prices were "only available in-store at Harvey Norman Sunshine Central". That was true of the campaign. It was not always true of the price.
- The Asus Vivobook 14 Copilot+ laptop (A1404V-AEB109WS) was RM3,099, down from RM3,799, at Sunshine Central. It is RM3,099, down from RM3,799, at Kulai. And it is RM3,099, down from RM3,799, on Harvey Norman's nationwide Malaysia Day Mega Sale page, buyable online from anywhere in the country. Three "exclusives", one price.
- Kulai's own in-store list prices the Samsung 65-inch Crystal UHD U8500H (UA65U8500H) at RM2,697, down from RM3,799. That exact model sells at RM2,697, down from RM3,799, online under the Top Brands Mega Clearance. What is genuinely store-only at Kulai is not the price — it is the RM200 Harvey Norman voucher and RM50 gift card attached to it.
- The Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5 Bluetooth speaker is RM1,377 at Kulai, RM1,377 on the Malaysia Day Mega Sale page, and RM1,377 on the Coalfields opening list. Identical in three places at once.
The practical rule: on a store-level Harvey Norman campaign, check the model number on harveynorman.com.my before you drive. Sometimes the store price is genuinely lower, as Penang's RM119 Toshiba microwave was. Often it is the national price with a voucher taped to it.
The air conditioner argument has inverted
This article's original proof point was that Sunshine Central undercut Harvey Norman's own website: a Hisense 1.0HP R32 inverter (AS10X5TUA) at RM1,089 in-store against RM1,189 on the Merdeka Super Sale page.
That comparison no longer runs in Penang's favour. Checked on 10 September 2026, Harvey Norman's Top Brands Mega Clearance sells a Hisense 1.0HP R32 inverter (AS10E4KAA) at RM998, down from RM1,159 — online, nationwide, RM91 below the store-only price that made the original case. The full ladder on that page:
- Hisense 1.0HP R32 inverter (AS10E4KAA) — RM998, was RM1,159
- Hisense 1.5HP R32 inverter (AS13E4KAA) — RM1,298, was RM1,499
- Hisense 2.0HP R32 inverter (AS20E4KAA) — RM1,798, was RM2,259
These are a different model line from the AS10X5TUA rather than the same unit repriced, and installation is quoted separately in both cases. But for a Penang household that wanted a 1.0HP inverter and missed the store deal: you did not miss anything. The nationwide price today is lower.
What a Penang shopper can actually buy this week
Penang gets no store-level slash in September. What it gets is the nationwide campaign, in all five of its Harvey Norman stores and online.
- Malaysia Day Mega Sale — 3 to 16 September 2026, up to 70% off, every store and online. The gift-card ceilings are department-specific and very uneven: up to RM9,000 on home appliances, up to RM250 on small appliances, RM50 per RM1,500 spent on selected laptops, up to RM1,500 on Fujitec massage chairs and Italian sofas, and RM200 on any Musterring or Van Vorst mattress. The RM9,000 headline belongs to one department only.
- Top Brands Mega Clearance — to 30 September 2026, 76 products, billed up to 80% off.
Two mechanics matter specifically to the readers this article was written for — the ones who came for Penang's deep furniture and bedding cuts.
Bedroom Savings runs a guaranteed 40% off, plus an additional 20% off with a minimum spend of RM5,000, or an additional 30% off with a minimum spend of RM10,000. Compounded, 40% and then 30% is 58% off — which is exactly the floor of the Penang store list's bedding range of 58% to 73%. The deep bedding discount did not disappear with the Penang campaign. It moved behind a RM10,000 basket.
Better Furniture, Better Living runs an extra 6% off with a minimum spend of RM3,000, or an extra 9% off with a minimum spend of RM6,000, plus a bundle special of an extra 15% off coffee tables, buffet cabinets and console tables with the purchase of a sofa or dining table. Read the exclusion line before you budget: it excludes New Arrivals, Special Deals and Clearance Items, which is most of what is already marked down.
Homeware Stack & Save is up to 50% off plus an extra 9% when you buy two or more items.
Full mechanics, the gift-card fine print and the clearance price spread are in our nationwide write-up, linked below.
All five Harvey Norman stores in Penang
Harvey Norman Malaysia — Elitetrax Marketing Sdn Bhd (200301013807 / 616227-D) — operates 41 stores nationwide, five of them in Pulau Pinang, the densest concentration outside the Klang Valley. All five run the Malaysia Day Mega Sale. Hours differ, and Queensbay's differ from everyone else's:
- Gurney Plaza, George Town — 04-202 4466, 10am to 10pm daily
- IKEA Batu Kawan, Bandar Cassia — 04-588 1678, 10am to 10pm daily
- Queensbay Mall, Bayan Lepas — 04-630 8210, 10.30am to 10.30pm daily
- Sunshine Central Mall, Ayer Itam — 04-826 9989, 10am to 10pm daily
- Sunway Carnival Mall, Seberang Jaya — 04-398 6878, 10am to 10pm daily
Sunshine Central is still trading normally, and still listed on Harvey Norman's own store finder — only its campaign ended. Note that three of the five are on the island and two, Batu Kawan and Sunway Carnival, are on the mainland. That was exactly the problem the old store-only delivery terms created. The nationwide sale carries no such restriction.
Who should act now, and who should wait
Act now if you are buying bedding at scale. The 40% plus 30% stack at a RM10,000 spend reaches 58% off, it runs at every Penang store, and Bedroom Savings ends with the Malaysia Day Mega Sale on 16 September.
Act now if you want a 1.0HP or 1.5HP Hisense inverter. RM998 and RM1,298 online are below what the Penang store-only campaign charged, and the clearance runs to 30 September.
Wait if what you want is the store-level slash format itself. It rotates — Penang in late August, Kulai and Coalfields in September. Watch Harvey Norman's catalogues and promotions index rather than any single campaign URL, because that index is where a new store's card appears and where a dead one is removed.
Skip the drive to Johor. Kulai's list is longer than Penang's was, but on the model numbers the two shared it is not systematically cheaper, and two of its headline items sell at the same price online.
Fine print
- A live campaign page is not a live campaign. The Sunshine Central page still renders its 27 Aug to 9 Sep dates today. The catalogues-and-promotions index is the version of record.
- Unit caps were per campaign, not per day. Penang's 5-, 10-, 15- and 20-unit caps are moot now. Kulai carries its own, including 10 units on the Honor X9D.
- The gift-card ceiling is per department. "Up to RM9,000" is a home-appliance number. It does not describe furniture, bedding, small appliances or computers.
- The furniture stack excludes New Arrivals, Special Deals and Clearance Items, so the extra 6% or 9% will not apply to an item already discounted on the clearance page.
- Prices here were read from Harvey Norman Malaysia's own campaign pages, campaign artwork and store finder on 10 September 2026 and move with stock. Confirm the model number before travelling.
