What the RM180 seat actually includes

Maybank's listing spells out the inclusions, and they match Manta's top First Class tier: insurance, a welcome drink, a buffet meal with free flow of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (while stocks last), and the run of the boat — sunbathing deck, viewing deck, karaoke, air-conditioned cabin and washrooms, plus the inflatable pool, water slide and paddle boards. The vessel is the Manta Oro, a 55-foot double-deck catamaran carrying up to 60.

What you actually save

Manta sells the same 4pm-8pm Manta Oro sailing in three classes, which is the part most write-ups skip:

  • First Class — RM250 adult, RM150 child (2-12): buffet plus unlimited drinks. This is the tier the Maybank rate matches
  • Premium Economy — RM195 adult, RM145 child: food, no alcohol
  • Economy — RM150 adult, RM100 child: no food or alcohol, with the buffet available as a paid add-on

Infants under 2 sail free in every class. Measured against First Class, the like-for-like tier:

  • Two adults: RM360 on the cardholder rate against RM500 at list — RM140 saved
  • Four adults: RM720, less the 10% group discount, lands at RM648 — about RM162 a head against RM250, so RM352 saved
  • Two adults + two children (3-12): RM600 before the group discount, RM540 after, against RM800 at First Class list — RM260 saved
  • Private charter: Manta Blu lists publicly at RM8,000 for four hours, so RM6,400 is RM1,600 off

The honest caveat: RM180 is not the cheapest way onto this boat. An Economy seat is RM150 to anyone, card or no card — RM30 below the Maybank rate. You are paying that RM30 for the buffet and the open bar, which is a fair trade, but "you'd pay RM250 without the card" only holds if First Class is what you wanted in the first place.

On the charter, do the sums before assuming the whole boat is the better buy. RM6,400 across all 36 seats is about RM178 a head — but the charter's inclusions do not cover food. Maybank's listing gives you a crew of four, insurance, a welcome drink, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks while stocks last and a complimentary bottle of champagne or cake, then states that a selected food menu carries separate charges. A shared First Class seat at RM180 comes with the buffet. Like for like, the charter buys privacy and control of the timing, not value per head. Manta's public rate card also lists a Damai Puteri charter at RM5,500 for four hours, likewise up to 36 passengers — cheaper than the cardholder Manta Blu rate if the specific boat isn't the point.

Book through manta.my, by phone or WhatsApp on 012-733 7850, by email at enquiry@manta.my, or in person at the Manta Cruises office at Fisherman's Wharf, Kuah. Quote the relevant code — MBBORO26 for the sunset cruise, MBBBLU26 for the charter — and settle the bill with the qualifying Maybank card. The card has to pay: a friend booking on your behalf with a different card won't get the rate.

Fine print worth reading first

  • Turn up early: check-in is 3:30pm, boarding 3:50pm, and Manta's own listing says the boat leaves at 4:00pm sharp, returning around 8pm. A missed departure is not refunded
  • Where to turn up: the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, next to the Ramada hotel on Jalan Dato Syed Omar in Kuah. Maybank's terms and Manta's own product page both name it as the departure and arrival point. Fisherman's Wharf, on the same road, is the walk-in ticket office — not the jetty
  • Cancellations: 48-72 hours before departure gets a 50% refund; under 48 hours, and no-shows, get nothing. Rescheduling is allowed up to 24 hours before departure but is subject to availability — Manta's own policy page makes availability the only condition it states, so treat a reschedule as a request rather than a right
  • Weather: Manta sails in light rain. Only severe weather triggers a reschedule or a refund
  • Cannot be combined with other discounts, promotions, loyalty programmes or vouchers
  • The 10% group discount is calculated on the total bill and sits separately from the base cardholder rate, so check it has actually been applied at checkout

Who it suits — and who should skip

It suits you if you hold an eligible Maybank card, want the full First Class experience — buffet, open bar — and travel in a group of four or more, where the base rate and the 10% stack into the widest gap against the RM250 list price. It also fills an evening in Kuah — the ferry-and-duty-free end of the island, where there is otherwise not much to do after dark — without much planning.

Skip it if you only want the sunset and the swim: Economy puts you on the same boat for RM150, which is RM30 under the cardholder rate and needs no card at all. Skip it too if you're prone to seasickness or travelling with toddlers who won't sit still for four hours. And if you're visiting between roughly May and October, build in a spare evening — Langkawi's calmer, clearer stretch runs about December to April, and rescheduling, where availability allows, is free up to 24 hours out.
