Most hotel mooncake lists in Malaysia are written from KL. Johor has fewer hotel collections, and Renaissance Johor Bahru's is one of the few that publishes its full price list and every discount tier on its own page. That makes it easy to work out what you will actually pay, which is what this guide does.

What is in the three boxes

The collection is called Eclat de Lune and comes in a floral keepsake box. All mooncakes are halal certified, according to the hotel.

  • Traditional baked, box of 4: RM198 nett. Flavours listed are pure lotus paste, lotus paste with single yolk, lotus paste with double yolk, green tea paste with single yolk, jade custard, red bean paste, and assorted fruits and nuts.
  • Snowskin, box of 8: RM188 nett. Rose lychee and pandan cheesecake are new this year, alongside peach, passion fruit, yuzu, green tea, chocolate mint and yam.
  • Durian snowskin, box of 8: RM208 nett. The hotel calls it the crown jewel of the range.

The hotel does not publish the weight of each piece, so compare the price per piece rather than per gram. Ask when you order if weight matters to you.

How to order in the last few days

  1. Pick your box and count. Decide how many boxes of each type you need before you message, because the bulk discount depends on the total.
  2. WhatsApp the hotel's mooncake line on +6012 771 9056, or call 07-381 3388. The page also lists an email contact for reservations.
  3. Say which discount you are claiming. Name the bank card, or give your Club Renaissance or Marriott Bonvoy membership, when you order, so the right rate is applied.
  4. Confirm collection. The hotel does not publish an order cut-off or delivery terms, so ask whether your flavours are still in stock and when you can collect. With Mid-Autumn on Friday 25 September, do not leave it to that morning.

Which discount you get

The hotel says discounts are non-cumulative, and the highest one you are eligible for is applied to each purchase. In practice that gives four levels:

  • 10% off: eligible Maybank, RHB, Hong Leong Bank, Affin Bank or UOB cards, or Marriott Bonvoy members.
  • 15% off: Club Renaissance members.
  • Bulk: 20 boxes 10%, 50 boxes 15%, 100 boxes 20%, more than 100 boxes 25%.
  • No discount: paying with any other card or cash, without a membership.

So a Club Renaissance member buying 20 boxes still pays 15%, not 10% plus 15%. The bulk tiers only beat membership once you reach 100 boxes.

Worked examples

  • One snowskin box with a Maybank card: RM188 less 10% is RM169.20, or RM21.15 a piece.
  • One baked box as a Club Renaissance member: RM198 less 15% is RM168.30, about RM42.08 a piece.
  • One durian box with no card or membership: full RM208, RM26 a piece. With a UOB card it drops to RM187.20.
  • A corporate order of 50 snowskin boxes: RM9,400 at list price, less 15% is RM7,990. That is the same rate a single Club Renaissance member already gets.
  • A 120-box corporate order of snowskin: RM22,560 at list price, less 25% is RM16,920.

For comparison, Li Meng Hang, a Skudai bakery founded in 1998, lists a single 125g white lotus mooncake at RM24 without a box on its own shop. Renaissance's snowskin is about the same price per piece and comes boxed. Its baked mooncakes cost about twice as much per piece.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Good for: corporate gifting in JB where the box is part of the gift, households that need a halal-certified box to share with Muslim colleagues or neighbours, and durian lovers who want a boxed durian snowskin without going to a specialist.

Skip it if: you mainly want to eat traditional baked mooncakes yourself. At RM49.50 a piece before discounts, a heritage bakery gives you far more for the money. Also skip it if you can only collect on the 25th: stock is not guaranteed on the last day.

Fine print that trips people up

  • The last day is Mid-Autumn itself. The listed window ends 25 September, so there is no post-festival clearance period to wait for.
  • Boxes only. The hotel lists the collection by the box of four or eight. It does not list single pieces, so a mixed order means asking when you message.
  • Bank discount means paying with that card. Bring or use the card on the list. A different bank's card does not qualify.
  • Prices are nett. The hotel quotes all three boxes in nett RM, so the figure is what you pay before any discount.
