> Quick view: Secret Recipe's Merdeka Deal — buy two cake slices, get one free — ran for five hours on 31 August 2026 and is finished. Its page on Secret Recipe's own site now returns "This Page Isn't Available", and the promotion has been dropped from the brand's promotions index. Checked 5 September 2026. What is still running, and what actually replaces it: Tea Time Special gives you a free hot drink with any cake slice on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm, with no membership and no minimum spend. Bestie Thursdate is RM26 for one slice plus two beverages, every Thursday all day, for SR Rewards members. And if you are in Sabah, only one of those two works — the reason is buried in the exclusion lists.
The Merdeka Deal is over — here is the proof
The offer was a genuine one-day promotion: 31 August 2026, 12pm to 5pm, buy two cake slices and get a third free, at every Secret Recipe outlet in Malaysia except the branch inside Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz. Six paid slices per customer per receipt was the cap, so nine slices for the price of six was the ceiling. Brownies and chocolate lava were excluded, as they are from almost every Secret Recipe slice promotion.
It has not been extended, and there is no successor Buy 2 Free 1. Two things confirm it:
- The promotion page is gone. The URL the deal ran on now returns Secret Recipe's "This Page Isn't Available" error page rather than the terms.
- It has been removed from the promotions index. Secret Recipe's promotions page currently shows fourteen live campaigns. The Merdeka Deal is not among them.
If you are reading this because you searched for the buy-two-free-one, the honest answer is that nothing on the menu right now matches it. A free slice for buying two is roughly a third off; the best standing offer below is worth a free drink. The rest of this page is about getting the most out of what does exist.
What replaces it: the September 2026 cake-slice ladder
Everything here was read from Secret Recipe's own promotion pages on 5 September 2026, terms included.
Tea Time Special — a free drink with any slice, and the closest thing to a replacement
This is the offer to reach for if you want one slice and nothing complicated. Buy any slice cake, Shinjuku Bake, pie or pastry, or the Secret Recipe Trio Platter, and one hot drink is free: SR Ipoh White Coffee, SR Ipoh Black Coffee, Tea in a Pot (Earl Grey, English Breakfast or Jasmine Green Tea), or Teh Tarik.
- When: dine-in, weekdays only excluding public holidays, 3pm to 6pm.
- Where: Peninsular Malaysia only, excluding Medini Mall and AEON Mall Taiping. Medini Mall is the only Secret Recipe outlet carved out of this offer specifically — no other current promotion excludes it.
- What it costs you: nothing. No membership, no app, no voucher to save, no minimum spend.
Bestie Thursdate — RM26 for one slice and two beverages
The only fixed-price cake offer Secret Recipe currently publishes, and the only one valid at outlets across the whole country.
- Price: RM26 for one cake slice and two beverages, inclusive of 6% SST and 10% service charge where applicable.
- When: Thursdays, all day long, dine-in only.
- Membership: SR Rewards members only. You must save the e-voucher in the Rewards section of the Secret Recipe app before you order — printed vouchers and screenshots are explicitly refused.
- Slice: all slice categories except brownies and chocolate lava.
- Drinks: limited to signature drinks, coffee, ice blended, milkshakes and chocolate.
- Where: all Secret Recipe outlets in Malaysia, excluding AEON Mall Taiping and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz.
The 10% slice add-on: Lunch Set and Family Combo
Both of Secret Recipe's meal sets let you bolt on one discounted slice, and both use the same 10 per cent.
- New Lunch Set 2026 — one main course and one beverage, dine-in, Monday to Friday excluding public holidays, 12pm to 3pm, Peninsular Malaysia excluding AEON Mall Taiping and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz. The current line-up runs Oriental Fried Rice RM16.90, Noodle in Tom Yum Soup RM21.00, Curry Mee RM21.00, Black Pepper Crispy Chicken Chop RM22.00, Spaghetti Meatballs (chicken or beef) RM23.00, Grilled Mushroom Chicken RM23.00, Hainanese Chicken Chop RM24.80 and Prawn Macaroni with Cheese RM24.90, with Coca-Cola, Coke Zero, Iced Plum Lime Juice or Iced Lemon Tea as the drink. One slice add-on at 10% off per set, all categories except chocolate lava and brownies.
- Family Combo 2026 — from RM52 for 2 pax, mushroom soups plus main courses plus drinks, dine-in all day, Peninsular Malaysia with the same two outlet exclusions. Maximum one cake slice add-on per customer per combo set, again at 10% off.
Note that this lunch set is a refreshed 2026 line-up: the earlier version topped out at RM24.80 and started at RM18.90 with a different set of mains. If you have an older price in your head, it is out of date.
Sabah and Sarawak: the map most write-ups skip
The exclusion lists on these offers are not the same, and the difference lands hardest in East Malaysia.
- Tea Time Special, New Lunch Set, Family Combo, Local Remix and the Matcha Series are Peninsular Malaysia only.
- Free Ice Cream for Kid and the 30% cake-decoration voucher run in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, excluding AEON Mall Taiping.
- Bestie Thursdate is the only cake-slice offer valid at all Secret Recipe outlets in Malaysia, subject to the AEON Mall Taiping and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz carve-outs.
Read together: in Sabah, Bestie Thursdate is the only current Secret Recipe promotion that touches a cake slice at all. In Sarawak you also get the free kids' ice cream and the decoration voucher, but not the free tea-time drink and not the discounted slice add-on. If you are in Kota Kinabalu or Kuching and someone tells you to go at 3pm for the free coffee, they are quoting a Peninsular offer.
What a slice actually costs now
Secret Recipe still does not print slice prices on its menu pages, so treat any figure quoted second-hand with suspicion. The brand does publish one current anchor: with the launch of the Cookies & Cream Duo, a Dark Cookies & Cream slice is RM14.20 takeaway (subject to 6% SST), the Platinum Cookies & Cream cake is RM81.00 and the whole cake is RM105.00, at Peninsular Malaysia outlets.
Use that as your yardstick:
- Tea Time Special takes a drink off a bill you were paying anyway. On a roughly RM14 slice, a free hot coffee or pot of tea is the single largest saving available without membership.
- Bestie Thursdate at RM26 buys that slice plus two beverages — so the two drinks are effectively costing under RM12 combined, before you account for the 10% service charge you would pay on them à la carte.
- The 10% add-on is worth about RM1.42 on a RM14.20 slice. It is real, but it is the smallest lever here, and it only exists if you are buying a meal set anyway.
There is one overlap worth planning around. Thursday between 3pm and 6pm in Peninsular Malaysia is the one window where Bestie Thursdate and Tea Time Special are both technically running — and they do not stack, because both carry the standard "not valid with other on-going promotions, offers, set meals, bank discounts and privileges" clause. If you want one slice and one drink, Tea Time Special is free and needs no app. If you want a second drink, RM26 is the price of it.
What Secret Recipe's own site still gets wrong
Two discrepancies to know about, because they will send you to the counter with the wrong expectation.
- The promotions page carries a stale list in its page code. Secret Recipe's promotions index still declares six "on-going promotions" — New Lunch Set 2026, RM13 for Any 2 Coffees, RM50 for Sharing Set for 2, RM21 Cake and Drink Bundle, Buy 1 Free 1 Combo Set and Signature Drink Set, and the RM6 fruit tea with a Golden Egg main. Every one of those links returns the "This Page Isn't Available" error. The visible cards on the page are the real list; the machine-readable one behind it has not been cleaned up. The Touch 'n Go RM21.90 cake-and-drink bundle in particular ran only from 1 to 31 August 2026 and is done.
- The Free Ice Cream for Kid card contradicts its own poster. The listing card still reads "with min spend of RM40 (weekday, dinner & weekends all day long)", while the current campaign poster says minimum spend RM40, valid all day, every day. The full terms — one free single scoop of chocolate or vanilla per table per receipt, dine-in, for tables with a child aged 12 or under, no splitting of bills or tables, mention it to the crew before paying — do not restate any day restriction. Ask at the counter if you are going on a weekday lunchtime.
Fine print worth settling before you go
- Nothing stacks. Every offer above carries the same no-combining clause, so bank card discounts and member privileges are out on top of a promotion.
- Dine-in is the default. Tea Time Special, Bestie Thursdate, the Lunch Set and the Family Combo are all dine-in only. The WFH Set is the exception and runs on SR Go! pick-up in Peninsular Malaysia — walk-in takeaway customers are explicitly not entitled to it.
- Two outlets sit outside almost everything. Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras and AEON Mall Taiping are excluded from the large majority of Secret Recipe promotions, and Medini Mall is excluded from Tea Time Special specifically.
- Prices include service charge only where stated. The Bestie Thursdate, Lunch Set and Family Combo prices are quoted inclusive of 6% SST and 10% service charge; the Cookies & Cream figures are takeaway prices subject to SST.
- Terms change without notice. Secret Recipe reserves that right on every campaign page, and the brand's own SR x Simply Heal x Bichi Mao collaboration is already dated to end on 30 September 2026.
Check the current terms on Secret Recipe's official promotions page before you go.
