A new pair of glasses in KL can cost RM68 or well over RM1,000, and the gap is not just about the frame. Some chains quote a frame price that already includes decent lenses. Others quote the frame alone and price lenses at the counter, and a few publish nothing at all. If you compare a RM288 sticker at one shop with a RM335 sticker at another, you may be comparing a finished pair with half of one.

So we read the official price pages, lens guides, warranty pages and promotions of the main optical chains in KL and Selangor on 16 October 2026. Six made the list. Three (68°C Optic, OWNDAYS and Pott Glasses) publish enough to work out the cost of a complete pair. Two (Optical 88 and Focus Point) publish frame prices only. MOG Eyewear publishes no prices but is included because it has shops in most Klang Valley malls. We checked JINS, Zoff and Lenskart too: none has a working Malaysian store site, so none is here. A-Look also publishes no prices.

How to compare glasses prices

Ask for the price with your lenses, not the frame. For a typical short-sighted prescription, the question is what you pay walking out. At OWNDAYS that is the frame price, because thin 1.60 or 1.67 lenses cost RM0. At Pott Glasses it is the frame plus RM110 to RM310. At 68°C Optic it is RM68 or RM98 if your power is within its range (up to -6.00 short-sight and -2.00 astigmatism).

Know which upgrades you actually need. OWNDAYS is the only chain here that publishes a full add-on list: 1.74 ultra-thin lenses, blue-light lenses, colour lenses and children's myopia-control lenses each add RM300, Transitions adds RM600, and progressives add RM300 to RM1,200. Use it as a reference price when another shop quotes you verbally.

Check the warranty on the lenses, not just the frame. Frame warranties are usually a year (OWNDAYS, Pott and MOG all say 12 months for defects). The lens side differs more. OWNDAYS gives one free power change within a year, while Pott's power warranty is 21 days and MOG's warranty excludes prescription lens issues entirely. If your prescription has been changing, that difference is worth more than a small price gap.

Look up who is testing your eyes. Optometrists and opticians must be registered with the Malaysian Optical Council (Majlis Optik Malaysia) under the Optical Act 1991, and the council has a public practitioner and premises search on its website (hq.moh.gov.my/moc). For contact lenses, a registered optician may also prescribe and sell them after passing the council's contact lens examination, so it is reasonable to ask whether the person fitting you holds that qualification.

A worked example

Say you are short-sighted at -3.00 in both eyes with mild astigmatism, and you want one everyday pair:

  • 68°C Optic: RM68, ready in an hour, but your only Klang Valley option is Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
  • OWNDAYS: a RM288 frame with standard thin lenses is RM288. Under the current buy 1 get 1 free, you would walk out with two pairs on one receipt, which makes a spare or a pair of prescription sunglasses frames much cheaper.
  • Pott Glasses: a RM335 frame plus the cheapest RM110 lenses is about RM445, after an unhurried 45 to 60-minute fitting, and you wait 4 to 7 days.

If you need progressives, the numbers change. At OWNDAYS the Enhanced progressive adds RM300 to the frame (RM588 with a RM288 frame), takes 10 to 14 working days, and the 1.56 Enhanced Progressive lens is excluded from the anniversary promotion.

How to pick

  • Lowest possible cost, standard prescription: 68°C Optic, if Bukit Jalil works for you.
  • Most predictable total and fastest turnaround: OWNDAYS, especially while buy 1 get 1 free lasts.
  • Want time and advice, and a shop near home in PJ, Subang or Damansara: Pott Glasses.
  • Want a specific designer brand: Optical 88 or Focus Point, and ask for the lens price in writing before paying.
  • Already a MOG member or near a MOG mall shop: ask for the full itemised quote, since none is published.

Prices and promotions change often in this category, so take a screenshot of the price page before you go, and ask any shop to itemise frame, lenses and coatings on the receipt.
