Two weekends are left: 19-20 and 26-27 September.

Causeway Café, the all-day restaurant on Level 6 of St. Giles Southkey Johor Bahru, has swapped in a themed buffet for September. The hotel's own offer page calls it "Flavours of Unity" and promises four Malaysian themes across four weekends. The 5-page menu linked from that page lists every dish. We read both, and compared the prices with the café's standing weekend buffet, which the same site lists at RM118 nett per adult and RM59 nett per senior or child.

How the deal works

  1. Pick a September weekend and a sitting: lunch runs 12pm to 3pm, dinner 6pm to 10:30pm.
  2. Book on WhatsApp at +6012 309 9762, or email fnb.skjb@stgiles-hotels.com. The hotel's own line is "Gather your 4 and book", so say you are claiming buy 3, get 1 free when you reserve.
  3. Pay RM138 nett per adult, RM98 per senior aged 60 and above, and RM68 per child aged 6 to 12. Children aged 5 and below eat free.
  4. For every three adult buffets paid, the fourth adult eats free. The offer page and poster both say it is for adults only.

What is on the buffet

Every weekend keeps the same base: seafood on ice (NZ mussels, tiger prawns, crab and scallops), salmon, butterfish and octopus sashimi, tempura, chicken and beef satay, dim sum, Hainanese chicken rice, rojak buah, a noodle live counter, Baskin-Robbins ice cream and ABC. The theme station and several hot dishes change each week:

  • Week 1, Streets of Penang: Penang asam laksa, lor bak, Teochew chendol, nasi kandar, oyster omelette, and laksa Johor at the noodle counter.
  • Week 2, Taste of Malacca: satay celup, onde-onde, Klebang coconut shake, claypot asam pedas, and Penang prawn mee.
  • Week 3, Peranakan Cuisine: pie tee, ayam pongteh, ikan gerang asam, sambal udang petai, cincalok omelette, mee rebus and Nyonya cendol.
  • Week 4, From Borneo with Love: umai Sarawak, nasi kuning Tawau, laksa Sarawak, manok pansoh, manok panggang, latok, mee bandung, kek lapis and badak berendam.

September 2026 has four full weekends (5-6, 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27). If the weeks ran in order from the first weekend, Peranakan lands on 19-20 September and Borneo on 26-27. The hotel has not published dates against each week, though, so ask which theme is on when you book, especially if you are coming for the laksa Sarawak.

Worked examples

Four adults. RM138 x 3 = RM414, or RM103.50 each. The usual weekend buffet would be RM118 x 4 = RM472, so the group saves RM58.

Three adults. RM414 with no free seat. On a normal weekend the same three would pay RM354, so they pay RM60 more. A fourth adult costs nothing extra, so bring one.

Two parents, children aged 8 and 11. RM138 x 2 + RM68 x 2 = RM412. Children are not part of the deal. The usual buffet would be RM236 + RM118 = RM354, so this family pays RM58 more.

Two parents, teenagers aged 13 and 15. The child rate stops at 12, so both teens pay as adults. That makes four adults at RM414. A family with teens pays RM2 more than a family with younger kids.

Two adults with two grandparents aged 60+. Senior pricing gives RM138 x 2 + RM98 x 2 = RM472. If the café lets all four book as adults under the deal, the bill drops to RM414. The terms do not say either way, so ask.

Eight colleagues. If the deal repeats, six adults pay RM828. If it applies once per table, seven pay RM966. The difference is RM138, so confirm before you book one table or two.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits groups of four or eight adults, extended families with teenagers, and anyone who wants a proper Sarawak or Nyonya spread in JB without driving far. Southkey is close to the Causeway, so Singapore visitors can pair it with a trip to Mid Valley Southkey downstairs.

Skip it if you are a party of two or three, or parents with young children. You will pay more than the café's normal weekend price, and the standing weekend buffet also comes with a 20% adult discount for CHM Club members. The hotel's CHM Club terms say that discount cannot be combined with ongoing promotions, so do not expect it on top of buy 3, get 1 free.

Fine print that trips people up

  • The deal is for adults only. Seniors and children never count towards the free seat unless the café agrees when you book.
  • Dinner hours differ from the café's usual buffet. The standard weekend dinner runs Friday and Saturday, 6:30pm to 10pm. This promotion lists 6pm to 10:30pm on "September weekends" without naming the days, so check whether Friday or Sunday dinner is included.
  • Malaysia Day itself, Wednesday 16 September, is a weekday. The poster covers weekends only.
  • The hotel is doing facade rectification work from 4 May 2026 to 28 February 2027, daily between 8am and 6pm. A lunch sitting falls inside those hours.
  • Umai Sarawak on the Borneo menu is raw fish cured in lime, worth knowing if you are pregnant.
  • The menu and poster note that images are for illustration only.
