> Quick view: at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru, any foreign passport gets you a free Tourist Privilege Card from a Ground Floor Information Counter — valid seven days, good at more than forty tenants, on an offer sheet dated 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027. Separately, Maybank Singapore cardholders get RM50 in shopping e-vouchers on RM500 of spend until 31 December 2026 (while monthly stocks last) and RM10 off dining. The card's offers are normal-price only and single-transaction only, and generally do not stack with a tenant's own sale. Re-checked 4 September 2026: the Merdeka campaigns that used to beat the card are all off the mall's deals page, and of the ten tenants promoting something today only Diamond & Platinum is on the card sheet — so the card is worth more this month than it was last.
The counter almost nobody uses
The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey is the largest shopping centre in Johor, roughly 300 retailers across six floors on Persiaran Southkey 1, and it is deliberately parked between the Johor Bahru city centre and the crossings to Singapore. Its own visitor page says as much: *located strategically between Johor Bahru and Singapore*.
What that page also says, in a line most day-trippers never read, is that if you are a foreign tourist you can walk up to an Information Counter on the Ground Floor, present your passport, and be handed a Tourist Privilege Card on the spot. It costs nothing. It is not a credit or charge card. And it carries a published list of flat discounts at more than forty tenants inside the building.
The list is not a marketing gesture. It contains numbers that move real money.
What the card is actually worth
The mall publishes the full offer sheet, and the general terms on its last page state that it is valid from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027. Counted tenant by tenant, the sheet currently lists 52 outlets across beauty and wellness, fashion, jewellery and timepieces, food and beverage, leisure, optical, homes and healthcare. A selection of the offers that matter most, with the tenant's own lot number:
- Bonia (G-011) — 10% off Limited and Special Collections, and 20% off normal-priced items. Selected items only.
- PUMA (G-066) — 15% off the total bill with a minimum purchase of two normal-priced items. Applies to footwear, apparel and accessories priced above RM79.

- Regency Medical Care Centre (G-051–054) — 10% off the Signature, Signature+ and Supreme health screening packages.

The Maybank Singapore layer
Two further offers run mall-wide, both tied to Maybank Singapore cards and both published on the mall's own happenings listing.
The Maybank Singapore Tourist Privileges Program runs 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2026 and gives complimentary RM50 shopping e-vouchers with RM500 spend, *while monthly stocks last*. The Maybank Singapore Dining Privileges Programme has been running since 8 May 2026, also to 31 December 2026, and gives RM10 off dining, while dining e-vouchers last.
Two things about the RM50 offer are worth saying plainly. First, RM50 on RM500 is a clean 10%, and every ringgit you spend past RM500 dilutes it — RM50 on RM900 is 5.6%. If you are chasing the voucher, build one receipt to just past the threshold rather than spending your way through the mall. Second, *monthly stocks* means the allocation resets each month, so the same visit made on the 3rd and on the 29th are not the same visit. The mall lists both programmes as mall-wide, Ground Floor, but does not publish the redemption mechanics on its listing pages — ask at the Customer Service or Information counter before you shop.
What is on sale right now (re-checked 4 September 2026)
The mall refreshed its deals page on 1 and 3 September. Every Merdeka campaign this article originally weighed the card against — Sports Direct's RM31/RM69 rebate, Pandora's Buy 2 Get 1, Travel For All's 70%-off ELLE Aravis pricing, NITORI's Limited Sale, neubodi's 69%-off third piece, the OGAWA Mini Vibe at RM149, the OPPO Reno16 rebate, SOGO's Gucci Flora gift-with-purchase and the Thai Odyssey massage offer — has come off the listing. Here is what replaced them:
- BabyShop (S-047, Second Floor) — Merdeka Sale, up to 60% off storewide across baby and kids' essentials, fashion, toys and nursery goods. Posted 3 September; the artwork carries no end date, only *terms and conditions apply*.
- POPULAR (S-037, Second Floor) — *Super Holiday Promotion*, 28 August to 16 September 2026, with bestsellers up to 25% off on selected items. Running alongside it, a 20% storewide discount gift certificate for POPULAR members, valid 28 August to 27 September 2026, shown physically or through the app. One certificate per member, not valid on nett-priced items, and the fine print says no further 10% member discount on top of it.
- Universal Traveller (F-053, First Floor) — Clearance Sale, up to 50% off travel essentials, while stocks last. No dates published.
- Good2U Concept Store (LG-028, Lower Ground Floor) — *September Member Perks*, 1 to 30 September 2026: RM5 off for 300 points, RM7 off RM110, RM15 off RM250 and RM40 off RM500, plus a Malaysia Day RM16 off RM160 voucher that is valid only 16 to 20 September 2026.
- HUAWEI (S-028, Second Floor) — the Pura90s Series in 12GB+512GB: Pura90s Pro Max at RM4,499 after rebate against an RRP of RM4,899, and Pura90s Pro at RM3,699 against RM3,999. Free gifts the poster values at up to RM2,876 — a HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro worth RM799, a rebate voucher (RM400 on the Pro Max, RM300 on the Pro) and Premium Services worth RM1,677, the last of which needs a manual claim within a month. Running since 14 July 2026, while stocks last, with no published end date.
- SOGO (Lot AT-1, Ground Floor) — *Merdeka Spend & Win*, 14 August to 20 September 2026. RM69 in a single receipt earns an entry; there are ten prizes, each RM690 in SOGO vouchers plus 69,000 SOGO Reward Points. This is the one Merdeka campaign in the building that outlived 31 August.
- SOGO, continuing — *Shop & Sweep* with Bank Islam, 24 July to 30 September 2026 (RM100 in a single receipt earns two entries for Bank Islam Card-i cardmembers or one for everyone else, 40 winners of a five-minute supermarket sweep worth RM4,000); *Cuti-Cuti Malaysia*, 10 July to 16 September 2026; and a standing Atome offer of RM10 off RM150 or RM40 off RM400, split into three interest-free instalments.
- POPULAR — *Comic Carnival 6.0*, 1 August to 30 September 2026.
- Diamond & Platinum (G-035) — *Shine With Estrella Diamond* is still listed, but the poster the mall re-uploaded on 3 September now advertises only the complimentary travel jewellery and makeup pouch with any purchase, while stocks last. The weekly lucky draw that ran through August — one entry per RM2,000 spent on Estrella jewellery, seven RM4,500 necklaces and an RM10,000 grand prize — is no longer on the artwork. Treat it as finished unless the counter says otherwise.
- Carlo Rino and TSL (G-025A, Ground Floor) are listed with new-collection artwork rather than an offer, and a Carlo Rino Christmas 2025 entry is still sitting on the page nine months after it died — a reminder that this deals listing is append-only and not everything on it is live.
Three things are running mall-wide rather than at a single shop:
- Mid Autumn Festival, 4 to 25 September 2026, Centre Court, Ground Floor, with Maybank as banking partner. It opened today. The mall has published the dates and the banking partner but no redemption mechanics, so ask at Customer Service.
- Nongshim Shin 40th Anniversary Roadshow, Village Grocer storefront, Lower Ground Floor, 31 August to 6 September 2026.
- Verage by SOGO, North Court, Ground Floor, 31 August to 6 September 2026.
Now the arithmetic that has actually changed. In August the card and the sales were in direct competition, and the sales usually won. In September they are barely in the same building: of the ten tenants promoting something above, only Diamond & Platinum appears on the Tourist Privilege Card sheet. BabyShop, POPULAR, Universal Traveller, Good2U, HUAWEI, SOGO, Carlo Rino and TSL are not on it. That means the card is no longer something you trade away — for most of the mall it is simply the only discount on offer, and the sales sit in a separate set of shops.
Four worked examples
The luggage floor. Luggage is the single most-bought category on a Causeway day trip, and this mall now has five ways to buy it. Read them off the card sheet: Travel For All (T-005) gives an additional 10% but excludes best buy, value buy and 70%-discount items; CUIR (F-044A) carries the identical wording; LOJEL (TK-08) gives an additional 5% on normal-priced items only; and Echolac (S-043) gives *an additional 10% off normal-price items and items up to 50% off* — one of only two lines on the entire sheet that explicitly permits the card on already-discounted stock. Universal Traveller (F-053), which is running the mall's deepest luggage discount right now at up to 50% off, is not on the card at all. So take a case listed at RM800: marked down 50% at Echolac it is RM400, and the card's additional 10% takes it to RM360. The same nominal 50% at Universal Traveller stops at RM400, because there is no card to add. A RM40 difference decided entirely by which shopfront you walk into. (The mall's newest luggage tenant, The Travel Store, carries Lojel, Eminent, Echolac and Verage but is not on the card sheet either.)
The Bonia decision. Bonia (G-011) gives 20% off normal-priced items and 10% off Limited and Special Collections, selected items only. On a RM600 normal-priced purchase that is RM120 off. In August this was a genuine contest against an MVClub member offer of 18% off the total bill; on 4 September Bonia has no listed sale at this mall, so for once there is nothing to trade away — the card is simply the best price on the floor. If you are Malaysian and cannot get the card, check the MVClub app directly rather than trusting last month's number: mvclub.com.my did not resolve when we re-checked on 4 September 2026, so we could not confirm the 18% is still running.
The diamond decision. Diamond & Platinum (G-035) is the only tenant appearing on both sides of this article. The card gives RM300 off a minimum RM6,000 on normal-priced items in a single receipt — a flat 5%, not applicable to GIA, Riang 999/916 gold or pink-tag items. Alongside it, the *Shine With Estrella Diamond* travel jewellery and makeup pouch comes free with any purchase, while stocks last. A gift-with-purchase is not a discount, which makes this the one place in the mall where the card and the campaign plausibly sit together — but general term 5 still bars combining with ongoing promotions unless stated, so ask before you pay. What you should *not* plan around is the lucky draw: it is gone from the 3 September artwork.
The POPULAR question. POPULAR is not on the card sheet, so your passport is worth nothing at S-037. The live mechanic there is the members' 20% storewide gift certificate, valid 28 August to 27 September 2026 — a bigger number than almost anything on the card, but it needs a POPULAR membership rather than a passport, and it is void on nett-priced items. On a RM150 basket of books and stationery that is RM30 off. The bestseller table's up-to-25% is a separate mechanic and applies to selected titles whether or not you are a member. This is the shape of most of the mall in September: the card and the sale are no longer rivals, because they are in different shops.
Who this is for, and who should skip it
Take the card if you hold a foreign passport, you are shopping full-price categories — beauty counters, jewellery, branded fashion, sit-down dining — and you are in Johor Bahru for a few days rather than a few hours. Seven days of validity is generous enough to cover a long weekend, and the food-floor gift-with-purchase entries alone will out-earn the ten minutes at the counter.
Skip it if your list is all clearance, outlet and sale racks. On heavily marked-down stock the card is either explicitly excluded or worth a rounding error, and the queue at the Information Counter is time you could spend at the sale.
Skip it too if you are Malaysian. You will not qualify, and the MVClub app is where the mall parks the equivalent member-only value. Note, though, that the specific MVClub offers running when this article first published — the OGAWA Mini Vibe at RM149 and the extra RM100 on the OPPO Reno16 Series — both ended on 31 August 2026, and mvclub.com.my did not resolve when we re-checked on 4 September. Open the app itself rather than working from a list.
The fine print that catches people
- Present the card before you order or pay. Term 7 on the offer sheet is explicit; producing it after the transaction has been rung up is too late.
- Normal-priced items, single transaction. Splitting a purchase across two receipts to clear a minimum does not work, and several tenants say so in their own lines.
- One card per person, seven days, this mall only. Renewal is at the management's discretion.
- Weekday-only spa offers, and the Malaysia Day trap. Zen Oriental (S-017) and Siam Oasis (TM-005 & 006, TM-017 & 018) give 10% off à la carte services Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. TGI Friday's (F-056) excludes public holidays too. The next date that bites is Malaysia Day, Wednesday 16 September 2026 — a mid-week date that looks safe on a calendar and is not. It is also the first day of Good2U's RM16-off-RM160 window, so that is the one thing in this building that gets *better* on 16 September.
- Two tenants explicitly let you stack, and it is worth knowing which. F.O.S (LG-038) states its 5% may be used together with other promotional or discounted items, and Echolac (S-043) frames its additional 10% as applying to normal-price items *and* items up to 50% off. Everywhere else, assume you are choosing rather than layering.
- The sheet is a snapshot. Its own terms state that all information was correct as at 30 April 2026 and that participating tenants may change anything without notice. Treat the list as a strong indication, not a contract, and confirm at the counter for a big-ticket purchase.
- Do not assume the RM50 e-voucher is waiting for you. *While monthly stocks last* is doing real work in that sentence.
Practicalities
The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey trades daily from 10am to 10pm. The Information Counters that issue the Tourist Privilege Card are on the Ground Floor, which is also where the mall lists both Maybank Singapore programmes. The full tenant offer list is published as a PDF from the mall's own Tourist Privileges page, and it is worth opening on your phone before you go in — the lot numbers on it are the fastest way to plan a route through six floors without walking the whole building twice.
A route note worth having: the mall has opened a run of new stores since this article first ran — The Travel Store (premium luggage carrying Lojel, Eminent, Echolac and Verage), Focus Point Prestige, ANTA, a Starbucks Reserve counter, Vivo Cafe and Niko Privé. The Tourist Privilege Card sheet was fixed on 30 April 2026, so none of the new faces is on it. Watch the Focus Point distinction in particular: the sheet lists Focus Point Concept Store at G-008 with an additional 5% off sunglasses, and Focus Point Prestige is a different store in a different format. Check which one you are standing in before you hand over the card.

The August Merdeka campaigns described in the first version of this article have all come off the deals page and have been replaced above.
