> Quick view: Tanjong Jara Resort is still selling its MATTA Fair Residents' Package on its own website, more than two weeks after the fair closed. At RM799 a night for a Bumbung Room with all three meals for two, a two-night stay comes to RM1,885.64 with taxes, which is RM1,180 less than the resort's regular Residents' Package for the same room and the same meals. It is prepaid and non-refundable, and October is the last month you can use it before the resort's monsoon break.

Tanjong Jara Resort sits on its own beach at Batu 8, just outside Kuala Dungun on the Terengganu coast. It is a YTL Hotels property built in the style of old Terengganu timber palaces, and its regular rates for October start at RM1,200 a night before tax. The package terms below come from the resort's booking engine and its special-offers pages. We ran every price on 23 September 2026 for two adults in one room.

What the MATTA package includes

  • Accommodation in the room type you pick (the Bumbung Room is the cheapest one that carries it)
  • One breakfast, one set lunch and one set dinner per night for two persons, with coffee, tea and water at meals
  • In-room Wi-Fi
  • The Jara Hill Walk with the resort's naturalist, subject to availability

The booking engine lists it under "Packages" as "MATTA Fair Residents' Package", tagged "MATTA Fair Extravaganza 2026" and "Exclusive package for residents of Malaysia and Singapore". The fair itself ran at MITEC in Kuala Lumpur from 4 to 6 September. The package is still bookable online, but the engine marks it "Limited package available", and no sale end date is published. If you want it, do not wait for November.

What it costs, room by room

These are the engine's per-night rates for two adults. Taxes and fees shown by the engine are about 18% on top.

  • Bumbung Room (MATTA package): RM799, struck-through price RM1,299, plus RM143.82 taxes and fees
  • Bumbung Seaview Room (MATTA package): RM849, struck-through price RM1,349, plus RM152.82
  • Regular Residents' Package, Bumbung Room (same three meals): RM1,299, plus RM233.82

The MATTA rate was the same RM799 for a weekday stay (Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 October) and a weekend stay (Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October). The resort's other rates are not like that. Friday and Saturday nights cost more.

Worked examples for two people

Two nights, Bumbung Room, MATTA package: RM799 × 2 = RM1,598, plus RM287.64 taxes, RM1,885.64 in total. That is about RM471 per person per night with every meal included.

The same two nights on the regular Residents' Package: RM1,299 × 2 = RM2,598, plus RM467.64, RM3,065.64. The MATTA version saves RM1,180 for an identical room and meal plan.

Two weekday nights on Advance Purchase (breakfast only): the cheapest rate in October was RM744 a night for Sunday to Thursday nights. Two nights come to RM1,488 plus RM267.84, RM1,755.84. That is only RM129.80 less than the MATTA package, which also covers two lunches and two dinners for two. At a resort where you cannot easily walk to a kedai makan, that gap buys a lot.

Two weekend nights on Advance Purchase: Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October were RM910 a night on Advance Purchase, or RM2,147.60 with taxes for breakfast only. On weekends the MATTA package is RM261.96 cheaper and includes the extra meals.

The October window and the monsoon gap

When we searched on 23 September, every night from 2 November to 31 December 2026 was unavailable on the booking engine. The east coast monsoon usually shuts the sea down from November, and resorts along this stretch close or scale back. So the package is usable now through the night of 1 November, and again from whenever the resort reopens until 31 March 2027. Saturday 3 October already showed as unavailable.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Good for: couples and small families from the Klang Valley or Kuantan planning a two- or three-night east coast break in October, and anyone who would rather not drive out for every meal. The resort is secluded by design, and Dungun town is a drive away.

Skip it if: you might need to change dates. The prepayment is non-refundable, while the resort's Room & Fabulous Breakfast rate can be cancelled up to seven days before arrival. Also skip it if you mainly want the spa. The Be Rewarded offer gives RM500 of resort credit per night for restaurants and Spa Village (RM1,200 a night on the weekday dates we checked, credit forfeited if unused), and it keeps the free 50-minute massage that the MATTA package excludes.

Fine print that trips people up

  • Residents of Malaysia and Singapore only. Bring your MyKad or MyPR. Malaysians and PRs are exempt from the RM10 per room per night Tourism Tax, and check-in staff need to see the card to apply that.
  • Two-night minimum, full prepayment, no refunds. Rates and terms cannot be applied to bookings you have already made.
  • No free massage. The "Book Direct Benefits" massage on the resort's other offers does not apply to this package.
  • Children. Every room takes a maximum of two adults and two children aged 11 and under, with a child surcharge. The House of Terengganu takes two adults only.
  • Bonus nights for bulk buyers. Buy two MATTA packages and the resort gives one complimentary night at an AC Hotels by Marriott property in Malaysia. Buy four and one package is free. You claim these by emailing travelcentre@ytlhotels.com with your confirmation number, and they must be used by 31 March 2027. The terms do not say how many nights count as one "package", so ask before you pay.
  • Transfers are expensive. The resort's car from Kuala Terengganu airport (70 km, about 1 hour) or Kerteh airport is RM400 plus a RM150 fuel surcharge per car each way, before service charge and tax. From KLIA it is RM1,200 plus a RM400 surcharge. Most Klang Valley guests drive: the resort puts it at 370 km, about 3 hours 50 minutes from KL city centre.

How to book it

  1. Go to tanjongjararesort.com and open the booking engine with your dates and two adults.
  2. Switch the results from "Rooms" to "Packages". The MATTA package sits at the top with a "PROMO" tag.
  3. Pick the Bumbung Room (RM799) or Bumbung Seaview Room (RM849) and pay the full amount by card.
  4. If you are buying two or four packages for the bonus nights, email travelcentre@ytlhotels.com with your confirmation numbers.
