> Quick view: The TOP Penang at Komtar, George Town charges RM10 per attraction to MyKad and MyKid holders from Penang, Kedah, Perak, Perlis and Kelantan — against public prices of up to RM78 — until 30 November 2026. The offer, confirmed by the operator

The TOP Penang — the entertainment complex on the upper floors of Komtar, George Town's tallest building — is running a resident rate to mark its 10th anniversary. Every term below comes from The TOP's own Facebook page, or from the operator replying as Author inside its comment threads:

  • RM10 per attraction, across the 15 attractions the brand counts
  • Open to MyKad or MyKid holders with an IC code or registered address from Penang, Kedah, Perak, Perlis or Kelantan
  • Runs until 30 November 2026
  • Walk-in only. Asked how to buy the RM10 ticket, The TOP replied that you have to buy it at the ticketing counter, because staff need to check your IC
  • One IC admits one person — you cannot buy the whole family's tickets on your own MyKad
  • No blackout dates. Asked separately about weekends, public holidays and school holidays, The TOP confirmed the price is the same every day until 30 November
  • Tech Dome Penang is excluded. Asked whether every attraction counted, The TOP answered: all attractions except Tech Dome

The attractions people most often name under the rate are the Rainbow Skywalk (the open-air walkway 816 feet up), the Observatory Deck, the Sky Bridge, GP Meta Kart, the Top Boutique Aquarium, the Jurassic Research Center, the Magic Mirror Maze, Zombie Outbreak, the Topoggan indoor slide, Ocean Explorer, the Discovery Motion Theater and the Penang State Gallery & Durian King.

The Northern Region rate came back — this is the correction

The TOP originally ran two rounds: a Penang-IC rate to 30 November 2026, and a separate Northern Region round for Perak, Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan that closed on 30 June 2026. On 8 July 2026 the operator posted that the Northern Region deal was back by popular demand — and this time it carries the same 30 November 2026 end date as the Penang rate.

In practice the two offers have merged: one RM10 rate, five states, one deadline. If you were told in early July that a Kedah, Perak, Perlis or Kelantan IC no longer qualified, that is out of date.

Eligibility also turns on either your IC code or your registered address, not only where you live now — the operator's own wording is "an IC code or registered address from" the five states. A Penang-born MyKad holder living in KL is inside that wording, but it is worth asking at the counter before you build a trip around it.

Tech Dome Penang is the exception

Tech Dome Penang sits inside the Komtar geodesic dome and appears on The TOP's own attractions menu, so it is easy to assume it is covered. It is not. Tech Dome is a separate not-for-profit science centre run by Penang Tech Centre, an initiative of the Penang state government, with over 120 interactive exhibits — and it sets its own gate prices:

  • Adult (13+): RM28
  • Student with valid ID: RM22
  • Child 90cm–12 years, and seniors 60+: RM16
  • Under 90cm: free
  • Family packages (20% off): RM64 for 2 adults + 1 child, rising to RM88 for 2 adults + 4 children

Tech Dome ran its own tenth-anniversary giveaway — 10,000 free tickets for Penang IC holders — but that ran 9–18 July 2026 and has closed. Budget the normal rate.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Go to The TOP's ticketing counter at Komtar — do not buy online first, since the online checkout charges the public rate.
  2. Show your MyKad (or MyKid for children). Every person in your group needs their own IC.
  3. Name the attractions you want. You pay RM10 for each one — it is not one RM10 ticket covering the complex.
  4. Check hours and physical limits. The Rainbow Skywalk and Observatory Deck run 10:00am–10:00pm daily, but only to 7:00pm on Tuesdays; the indoor attractions run 10:00am–7:00pm daily. The Sky Bridge takes its last entry at 6:00pm and turns away anyone over 100kg, under 110cm, or wearing a skirt or dress. Topoggan needs 20kg–100kg and 110cm and above.

What you actually save

Public prices come from The TOP's own ticketing portal at onlyticket.com.my, re-checked on 4 September 2026 and unchanged since August. The full grid is in the table above; the shape of it is this:

  • The big wins are the expensive singles. Jurassic Research Center RM58 → RM10, Window of The TOP (Rainbow Skywalk + Observatory Deck + Sky Bridge) RM78 → RM10 per attraction, Top Boutique Aquarium RM38 → RM10.
  • Two attractions are already RM10 for everyone. The Musical Carousel and Jelly Bump cost RM10 at the counter whatever your IC says, so the promo adds nothing there.
  • Children and seniors save far less, because RM10 is a flat rate. Their public prices are already lower — the Magic Mirror Maze is RM10 for a child anyway, Topoggan RM18, Zombie Outbreak RM18, Ocean Explorer RM20, the Penang State Gallery RM20.

A worked example. An adult picking the Jurassic Research Center, the Boutique Aquarium and Zombie Outbreak would normally pay RM119. At the Northern Region rate that is RM30 — an RM89 saving on one afternoon. The same three attractions for a child cost RM99 publicly and RM30 on the promo, so the child saves RM69, not RM89.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It suits you if you are visiting for one to four attractions. That is where RM10 each is unbeatable: five attractions cost a northern IC holder RM50, while the public TOP Big 5 bundle is RM88 adult / RM68 child.

Do the maths per person if you are planning a marathon visit, because the bundles have a child price and the RM10 rate does not:

  • Adult, 11 attractions: RM110 at RM10 each versus RM118 for the public TOP Super Saver — you save RM8.
  • Child or senior, 11 attractions: RM110 at RM10 each versus RM78 for the child/senior Super Saver — the promo costs you RM32 more.
  • Child or senior, 5 attractions: RM50 versus RM68 for the child Big 5 — here the promo still wins.

The 12-attraction TOP Family Saver is RM128 adult / RM118 child, so the same warning applies. The bundles are bought online and stay valid a year from purchase, which the walk-in RM10 rate is not — it dies on 30 November 2026.

One thing to confirm at the counter

When the promo first launched, Penang state newsletter *Buletin Mutiara* reported that people who live outside Penang but work in the state could qualify by showing employer documentation or a utility bill. The operator's current wording does not mention work documents at all — asked directly whether expatriates qualified, The TOP replied that the promotion is for valid MyKad or MyKid holders with an IC code or registered address from the five states, and that everyone else pays normal rates or buys a package. If you are relying on employment rather than an IC, bring both and call +60 12-336 8074 before making the trip.
