Working on Malaysia Day 2026: What the Employment Act Pays You, and the RM4,000 Line That Switches It Off
Malaysia Day falls on Wednesday 16 September 2026, and it is one of only five public holidays the Employment Act 1955 makes compulsory by name. If your employer requires you to work that day, section 60D(3) says you get your holiday pay plus two days' wages at the ordinary rate, and it applies even if you work one hour. Overtime beyond your normal hours on that day is at least three times your hourly rate. But the First Schedule to the same Act switches section 60D(3) off entirely for anyone whose wages exceed four thousand ringgit a month, unless they fall into one of five listed categories, and the Act does not extend to Sabah or Sarawak at all. Eco-Shop's Beli 5 Percuma 1 Runs to 31 December, Members Only: All 358 Eligible Items Are Food
Eco-Shop has a buy-five-get-one-free offer running for the whole of 2026, and the details live in a terms and conditions PDF that its campaign page links to but never summarises. We read all 14 pages this run. The mechanic is simple: buy six items from the eligible list in a single receipt and the sixth is free. Three things the poster does not spell out. It is for Eco-Shop members only, so a walk-in paying cash gets nothing. The eligible list is exactly 358 item codes, and every one of them is food or drink, with no household, stationery, pet, baby or beauty product on it at all. And on Eco-Shop's stated RM2.60 price point, six items cost RM13.00 instead of RM15.60, a flat 16.7 percent off, which is about 83 times what the chain's own loyalty points return. Running alongside it until 30 September is the RM2.60 Merdeka collection with Projek SembangSembang, and the local-picks shelf beside it is made almost entirely of Buy 5 Free 1 stock.
Nando's Is Giving Away Free 1/4 Chicken on Three Days in a Row, and All Three Run on Different Rules
Nando's Malaysia has three separate free 1/4 Chicken offers running on 9, 10 and 11 September 2026, and they are published in two different places on its own site with nothing linking them. Tuesday is the Pavilion ELITE KL reopening, capped at 50 portions. Wednesday is the new Coalfields Retail Park outlet in Sungai Buloh, capped at 100. Friday is nationwide, uncapped in the terms, and needs you to invent a promo code out of a dialect word for chicken. We read all three sets of terms, the full menu and the restaurant locator, and priced what each one actually costs you: RM7.90 on the first two days, as little as RM4.50 on the third. Re-checked on the afternoon of 9 September: Nando's has now flipped the Pavilion outlet to "Everyday 10am-10pm" on its own locator, Coalfields is still not on it at all, and a second Selangor branch has quietly gone dark.
M Social Penang's RM98 Malaysia Day Buffet: Even the RM49 Child Price Is the Standing One
Beast & Butterflies at M Social Resort Penang in Tanjung Bungah is running a Taste of Malaysia buffet lunch on Wednesday 16 September 2026, from noon to 3pm, at RM98 nett per adult with Buy 3 Dine 4 and MyMillennium savings of 15 to 25 per cent. We read the hotel's own offer pages and its own menu PDFs, and almost all of that is already standing. RM98 is exactly what the restaurant charges for its weekend brunch buffet, Pay 3 Dine 4 is the standing group discount on that same brunch, and the 15, 20 and 25 per cent member tiers apply to every buffet there. Two things are genuinely different on 16 September: a one-day menu that runs seven states across its mains, and a buffet on a Wednesday. We have since queried the restaurant's own booking engine date by date, and it settles the last open question against the offer: the standing Saturday and Sunday buffets charge the same RM49 for seniors and children, so the RM49 on Malaysia Day is not a saving either. The RM38 weekday set lunch is still bookable on 16 September alongside the buffet.
Al-Ikhsan's Malaysia Day Mega Sale Has 11 Offers and Five Spend Thresholds, and Only One Poster Carries a Date
Al-Ikhsan Sports is running its Malaysia Day Mega Sale across more than 180 stores in Peninsular Malaysia, and it is not one promotion but eleven, each with its own spend threshold at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM300 or RM600. We read all twelve pieces of the retailer's own campaign artwork and every relevant collection on al-ikhsan.com. Only the Puma Running Fest poster prints a date, 1 to 30 September 2026. Everything else is undated. The free-socks offer is described one way on Al-Ikhsan's website and another way on its own in-store poster, the two lists of qualifying brands do not match, and Puma is on the website's list but neither of the poster's. There is also a separate online-only 9.9 drop that was advertised to open for orders on 9 September; we checked that morning and the collection behind the banner still listed nothing, while the Selangor FC shirts it calls a new arrival had already been on sale since 20 to 29 August.
Family Store Negeri Sembilan Is Running Three Price Lists at Once, and Your Branch Decides Which One You Get
Family Store has 11 outlets in Negeri Sembilan and is currently running three separate September promotions across them. Not one of the three covers all 11 stores. The Selamat Hari Malaysia flyer is state-wide but has no fresh prices at all until 11 September. A Weekly Deals list runs to 13 September at four branches only. A six-day Promosi Hebat runs to 13 September at two others. Five branches get neither. We read all three flyers off the chain's own Facebook page and found the same French beans priced at RM2.90 a kilo on one and RM8.90 a kilo on another.

Queensbay Mall's 'Our Malaysia, Our Pride': RM50 Buys a Kid a Batik Workshop, RM388 Buys a Handkerchief — the Cheapest Rung Is the Best One
Queensbay Mall in Bayan Lepas is running "Our Malaysia, Our Pride", its Merdeka and Malaysia Day 2026 campaign, through to 20 September 2026 — and unlike most mall Merdeka campaigns, this one is not a single spend-and-redeem line. It is a four-rung spend ladder (RM50, RM100, RM288, RM388) sitting on top of a free exhibition, six free cultural performances by Dewan Budaya Universiti Sains Malaysia, and six heritage-craft workshops for children run with the Penang History Gallery. The structure is upside down in a way that works in your favour: the cheapest rung, RM50 in a single receipt, is the one that buys a child a place at a batik, gasing or kah kiak making workshop — something you cannot buy at all elsewhere in the mall — while the top rung, RM388 across a maximum of two same-day receipts, buys a batik handkerchief and does not open until 16 September, four days before the campaign ends. AEON's Celebrate Malaysia, Together! grocery flyer runs 4-17 September and excludes four named stores; McDonald's answered the open question with a RM39.90 Cuti-Cuti Family Bundle, 5-9 September; GSC opened a Malaysia Month GSCoins redemption on 3 September. Watsons' biggest mechanic is now a 116-SKU 9.9 Raksasa Online Sale, and its 23 September bucket fell from 68 SKUs to 30. We also correct ourselves: GSC's RM69 Aurum pass never ended.
Merdeka Sale 2026: What Is Still Running Now That Merdeka Day Has Passed
Merdeka Day is over and most Merdeka sales died with it.
