> Quick view: Alpro Sugi, the Japanese-style drugstore that Alpro Pharmacy runs with Japan's Sugi Holdings, opens on Level 2 of Paradigm Mall PJ. Its official opening catalogue runs 29 October to 8 November 2026. The best perks are front-loaded into four days, 29 October to 1 November: a RM20 cash voucher when you spend RM150, and a free 6-in-1 health check. Inside the catalogue, the deepest cuts are on supplements and caregiving gear, such as Centrum Silver 100s at RM55.10 (RSP RM99.30) and a Moven aluminium wheelchair at RM880 (RSP RM1,722).

What Alpro Sugi is
Alpro Sugi is a joint venture between Alpro Pharmacy, the Malaysian chain, and Sugi Holdings, which runs Sugi Pharmacy drugstores in Japan. The first one opened at The Starling Mall in Petaling Jaya in October 2023. The format is closer to a Japanese drugstore than a normal Malaysian pharmacy. Alongside the usual pharmacist counter and supplements, there are Japanese snacks, Japanese skincare and beauty tools, and household items such as laundry capsules and deodorising products. The opening poster calls the brand the "No.1 Japanese drug stores @ South East Asia", which is the company's own claim.
The Paradigm Mall PJ branch sits on Level 2 of the mall in Kelana Jaya (lot 2F-05 per the opening notice). A ribbon-cutting is listed for Friday 30 October at 10.30am.
Do not mix it up with Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru. Alpro Sugi opened a branch there in late 2023, the weekend after the first Starling Mall store. This opening catalogue is for the Petaling Jaya mall in Kelana Jaya, and Alpro's own events page lists it as the Paradigm Mall PJ grand opening.
The opening perks, step by step
- Become a VIP member. The poster pushes a "lifetime VIP membership" card at the counter. Several catalogue offers give member points or a member extra (for example Avène adds 5% for members), so sign up before you pay. The poster does not state a joining fee, so ask at the counter.
- Book the free 6-in-1 health check (29 October to 1 November). It covers an HbA1c check (a three-month blood sugar marker), an OptiBlink dry-eye test, a ferritin (iron store) check, a muscle strength test, a blood pressure machine accuracy check for your own home monitor, and a body composition test. If you have an Omron or Rossmax at home, bring it for the accuracy check.
- Spend RM150 in one go (29 October to 1 November) for a RM20 cash voucher. The poster marks this "T&Cs apply" and does not print the voucher's validity, so ask when it can be used before you leave.
- Spend RM60 storewide (29 October to 30 November) for a buy-1-free-1 Oteine voucher. Oteine is Alpro's oat milk drink, sold in Oat Story cups, which the poster says is formulated with its nutritionists and dietitians.
- Spend RM150 on 31 October or 1 November and you also get one free Oteine on top.
- Use the Alpro app's Scan, Shop, Get Discount feature on selected brands. That strip is valid only 29 October to 2 November, not to 8 November.
Worked examples with catalogue prices
All prices below come from Alpro Sugi's own four-page opening catalogue. RSP is the recommended selling price printed beside each item.
A supplement top-up for parents
- Centrum Silver 100s: RM55.10 (RSP RM99.30)
- Caltrate Calcium + D Plus 100s: RM52.20 (RSP RM75.40)
- Brand's Essence of Chicken 70g x 15: RM76.90 (RSP RM85.98)
That basket costs RM184.20 against RM260.68 at RSP, a saving of RM76.48. It crosses RM150, so if you buy between 29 October and 1 November you also take home the RM20 cash voucher and the RM60 Oteine voucher. On 31 October or 1 November, add a free Oteine.
A skincare basket
- La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum 30ml: RM164.78 (RSP RM205.90)
- Acne-Aid Liquid Cleanser (Oil Control or Gentle, 100ml) plus Acne-Aid Spot Gel 10g bundle: RM49.80 (RSP RM35 each, so RM70)
Total RM214.58 against RM275.90, saving RM61.32, and the serum alone clears the RM150 voucher line.
The RM1.20 trap for diabetes supplies
Accu-Chek Guide test strips 50s are RM74.40 each (RSP RM85), and buying two earns 1,000 member points. Two boxes come to RM148.80, which is RM1.20 short of the RM150 voucher threshold. Add a Megrhythm Steam Eye Mask 5s at RM14.90 (RSP RM22.60) and the bill becomes RM163.70, unlocking the RM20 voucher. Contour Plus strips users get a similar deal: two packs of 2 x 25s for RM139.80.
Other prices worth knowing
- Caregiving: Moven aluminium lightweight wheelchair RM880 (RSP RM1,722). Bestmade Comfort Duo pillow RM199 (RSP RM349). Absorba Conti-Fit adult diapers 3 packs for RM70. Omron range gives a RM22 rebate on RM220.
- Kids: Scotts DHA Gummies 60s RM32.78 (RSP RM42.20). Promugen Kid 2g x 30 RM93, or 3 for RM250. Gummykids any 2 for RM80.
- Brand rebates: RM10 off RM100 on GKB or Nuzeel, RM10 off RM120 on Avène, RM5 off RM50 on Curél, RM8 off RM200 on Ensure, Glucerna and PediaSure.
- Home: Xibaibai laundry capsules 50s RM22.90 (RSP RM31.90), or 10 for RM199 with five free 5-piece packs of XBB capsules. Japan Power Bio deodorising and anti-mould range, 2 for RM59.90.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
Good for: anyone who buys the same supplements every month, families looking after an elderly parent (wheelchair, adult diapers, test strips), and people curious about Japanese drugstore brands without flying to Japan. The free health check is the most useful perk if you have not had an HbA1c or ferritin reading this year.
Skip it if: you only need one or two small items. The best value needs a RM150 bill in the first four days, and several of the "Buy 3" or "Buy 10" bundles only make sense if you would use that much anyway. Prescription and controlled medicines are outside the promotion.
Fine print that trips people up
- Two different end dates. The RM20 voucher and health check end 1 November. The app scan-for-discount ends 2 November. The catalogue period runs to 8 November. The Oteine buy-1-free-1 voucher runs to 30 November.
- Purchases above RM20 only. The small print says catalogue prices apply only to purchases of more than RM20.
- Controlled medicine is excluded from sales in the promotion.
- Free gifts while stocks last. That includes the bundled extras such as tote bags, pouches and the Signature Market snack packs given with RM120 of Brand's products.
- Prices can change without notice, per the catalogue's own disclaimer, so check the shelf tag.
The full catalogue is on Alpro Pharmacy's website, which also lists the Alpro Sugi Japanese range.
