Badminton is the one sport in this country where the court, not the racket, is the recurring cost. A group that plays twice a week is buying about a hundred hours of hall time a year, and the difference between booking at 5pm and 6pm can be the difference between RM1,200 and RM2,800 over those hundred hours.
So this is a price check, not a list of pretty halls. On 19 September 2026 we read, and on 26 October 2026 re-checked, the current rate card published for each of these eight centres on its live booking listing, along with its registered business name, address and amenities. Every one of them takes bookings through Courtsite, which is where most Klang Valley halls now publish their hours and prices, and each centre below links to its own listing so you can check the card yourself.
The three things that set the price
1. Which side of 6pm you are on. Evening is peak at every hall here, and the step is steep rather than gradual. TT Sports Centre @ PJ goes from RM12 to RM28, Setapak and W (Sentul) from RM14 to RM28, Lavana 3 from RM16 to RM30, Ara Courts from RM13 to RM28 on parquet and RM13 to RM32 on rubber. Two halls do not even open in the weekday daytime: Shah Alam Badminton Centre starts at 5pm and Thomas Cupper at 4pm, and both are cheaper in the evening than the halls that opened at eight in the morning.
2. How late you are willing to play. Four of the eight reverse the peak after midnight, and they reverse it all the way back to the daytime figure. Setapak returns to RM14 from 12am and runs to 4am, TT Sports returns to RM12 from 12am to 2am, W (Sentul) returns to RM14 from 12am to 2am, and Lavana 3 returns to RM16 from midnight and simply keeps going until 7am. Ara Courts does something similar an hour earlier, dropping to RM15 from 11pm to 2am. If your group finishes at 11pm anyway, booking 11pm to 1am costs less than half of 8pm to 10pm at the same hall.
3. Which grade of court you take. Most halls sell more than one. W (Sentul) publishes three: normal at RM14 and RM28, VIP at RM19 and RM33, and VIP Court A at RM24 and RM38. TT Sports sells normal and VIP two ringgit apart by day. Lavana 3 sells a standard court at RM16 and RM30, and one air-conditioned court at RM60 from 10am and RM80 after 6pm. CPS Subang does not grade its courts at all, because the whole 16-court hall is air-conditioned — which is the real reason it is the dearest place on this list.
What four players actually pay
Two hours at 8pm on a Tuesday, split four ways, on each hall's standard court:
- Thomas Cupper, Cheras: RM40, which is RM10 each and the cheapest weekday evening on this list
- Shah Alam Badminton Centre: RM50 at RM25 an hour, or RM12.50 each
- Setapak, W (Sentul) and Ara Courts (parquet): RM56, which is RM14 each
- TT Sports Centre @ PJ: RM56 on the card but RM59.36 with its 6% SST, or RM14.84 each
- Lavana 3 Kepong: RM60, or RM15 each
- Ara Courts (rubber): RM64, or RM16 each
- W (Sentul) VIP: RM66, or RM16.50 each
- W (Sentul) VIP Court A: RM76, or RM19 each
- CPS Subang, air-conditioned: RM80, or RM20 each
- Lavana 3's air-conditioned court: RM160, or RM40 each
The same two hours at 10am on a weekday, where the hall is open:
- TT Sports: RM24, or RM6 each before its 6% SST
- Ara Courts, either floor: RM26, or RM6.50 each
- Setapak and W (Sentul): RM28, or RM7 each
- Lavana 3: RM32, or RM8 each
- CPS Subang, air-conditioned: RM50, or RM12.50 each
- Lavana 3's air-conditioned court: RM120, or RM30 each
Thomas Cupper and Shah Alam are shut at 10am, so their evening rate is the only rate they have.
The weekend is the middle, not the top
This is the part that surprises people. At most of these halls Saturday and Sunday are priced as one flat band, and that band sits below the weekday evening rate. W (Sentul) and TT Sports charge RM20 an hour from 8am to midnight, Shah Alam RM20 all day, Ara Courts RM18 on parquet and RM20 on rubber, Lavana 3 a flat RM23 round the clock, and CPS Subang RM30. Thomas Cupper in Cheras charges less at the weekend than on a weekday, RM18 against RM20.
Setapak is the one that gets misread, and it is worth being precise about. Its weekend is not a flat band at all: RM14 an hour until 6pm, RM20 from 6pm to midnight, RM14 again until it closes at 4am. A Saturday morning at Setapak costs the same as a Tuesday morning, which makes it the cheapest weekend daytime hour of the eight alongside TT Sports' after-midnight rate.
Public holidays generally follow the weekend band, with two exceptions worth knowing. Shah Alam splits its public holiday at 7pm, RM20 before and RM25 after. Thomas Cupper opens its public holidays from 8am and prices Monday to Friday holidays at RM20, the same as an ordinary weekday.
Rubber against parquet
Ara Courts in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara is the only hall here that publishes both floors side by side, and the shape of the gap is more interesting than a single number. From 8am to 6pm the two cost exactly the same, RM13 an hour on either surface. From 11pm to 2am they are the same again, RM15. The premium exists only when the hall is busy: RM32 rubber against RM28 parquet from 6pm to 11pm, and RM20 against RM18 at the weekend.
So the honest answer to "does the floor cost more" is: only in the evening and only at the weekend, and only by RM4 and RM2. Rubber mats are the newer surface and the one most tournaments use, so the hall charges for them when demand is there and gives them away when it is not. A group that plays at 10am has no reason to pick parquet to save money, because there is nothing to save.
The one block price left
When we first read these cards in September, Shah Alam Badminton Centre also listed two-, three- and four-hour evening blocks. Its card on 26 October lists hourly rates only, RM18 from 5pm to 7pm and RM25 from 7pm, and we could not find the blocks on its listing or on Courtsite's deals page, so do not plan around them. Its cheapest weekday move now is to start early: 5pm to 7pm costs RM36 for two hours, RM9 a head for four.
W (Sentul) publishes the one block still on a card, and it is easy to miss because it sits on the daytime line rather than the evening one: RM20 for two off-peak hours against RM14 an hour, weekdays 8am to 6pm. That is RM10 an hour, the cheapest published hour anywhere on this list. If your group plays long, or plays in the morning, price the block and not the hour.
What is not on the rate card
Exactly one of the eight rate cards we read states whether service tax is added at checkout. TT Sports Centre @ PJ prints "*Price shown excludes 6% SST" under both its normal and its VIP prices, which turns its RM12 morning hour into RM12.72 and its RM28 evening hour into RM29.68. The other seven say nothing either way, which means the figure you see may or may not be the figure you pay. It is worth noting that TT Sports is not more expensive for being honest about it — even with the tax added it is still the cheapest weekday daytime hour here.
Cancellation terms are similarly quiet. Ara Courts publishes the strictest we found: no refund, no carry-forward of an unused session and no rescheduling at all. Setapak is next: no refund or carry-forward, and a change of time needs 48 hours' notice, depends on availability and is allowed once only.
How to pick
- For the cheapest weekday evening: Thomas Cupper in Cheras at RM20 an hour, or Shah Alam if you can start at 5pm, at RM18 an hour until 7pm. Both are RM9 to RM10 a head for four, and both beat every warehouse hall here.
- For a fixed weekly game: price your exact slot for two hours on the live card, not from memory. Shah Alam's evening blocks disappeared from its card between September and October, and W (Sentul)'s RM20 off-peak pair is now the only multi-hour price on these eight cards.
- For flexible hours: play before 6pm. TT Sports at RM12 and Ara Courts at RM13 are less than half their own evening rate, and W (Sentul)'s RM20 for two off-peak hours is the cheapest published hour of all.
- For a late finish: Setapak runs to 4am, Lavana 3 straight through to 7am and TT Sports and W (Sentul) to 2am, all four back at their daytime rate after midnight.
- For air-conditioning: CPS Subang is the whole-hall option at RM25 by day, RM40 in the evening and RM30 at the weekend. Lavana 3's single air-conditioned court is RM60 by day and RM80 after 6pm, so unless you specifically want Kepong, Subang is half the price for the same comfort.
- For a school hall over a warehouse: Thomas Cupper sits inside SJK (C) Imbi in Taman Taynton View, opens only at 4pm on weekdays, and is the cheapest evening court on this list. The trade is that there is no daytime session at all.
- For a group that cares about the floor: Ara Courts is the only hall that lets you choose, and by day the choice is free — RM13 either way.
