Moving in the Klang Valley isn't just a lorry and two guys

Between condo lease turnovers, upgrading from an apartment to a landed home, and offices relocating within the Golden Triangle or out to cheaper Petaling Jaya addresses, the Klang Valley has one of the busiest relocation markets in the country — and one of the most fragmented, with everything from one-truck outfits to established regional players competing for the same jobs. Two categories tend to get lumped together but solve different problems: movers handle the physical shifting of your belongings from point A to point B, while self-storage operators give you somewhere to keep things you don't want to move at all — furniture between leases, business inventory, seasonal items, or the overflow from downsizing.

This list covers eight operators currently trading in KL and Selangor, all re-checked on their own websites on 5 September 2026: four movers and four self-storage providers.

What a Klang Valley move actually costs

Two of the four movers here publish a full rate card, which makes them the useful benchmark to hold everyone else's quote against.

Mover2U prices in tiers, all for a single point-A-to-point-B trip within 20km of the Klang Valley:

  • Lorry rental only (driver included, driver does not carry anything): RM150 for a 1-tonne 9ft lorry, RM300 for a 3-tonne 14ft, RM350 for a 5-tonne 17ft
  • Budget package (lorry plus movers, no wrapping or packing): RM280, RM400 and RM600 for 1, 3 and 5 tonnes, with 2, 3 and 4 movers respectively
  • Premium package (adds a site visit, 10 L-size boxes, furniture assembly and dismantling, bubble and shrink wrapping, and goods-in-transit insurance): RM600 for 1 tonne, RM900 for 3 tonnes
  • All-in-Service and Signature packages run higher again, up to around RM2,500

LalaPacker publishes a comparable card, with a wider 40km radius on its bigger packages:

  • Lorry plus manpower: RM300 (1-tonne, 2 movers), RM1,000 (3-tonne, 4 movers, 20 free L-size boxes, wrapping and insurance), RM1,700 (5-tonne, 4 movers)
  • From A to Z packages with packing included: RM1,000 (1-tonne), RM1,700 (3-tonne), RM1,900 (5-tonne)
  • Add-ons priced separately: RM12 per box, RM20 to have a box packed and RM13 to have it unpacked, RM20 per floor per tonne for staircase carrying, RM200 for a tail-lift lorry

Read the exclusions, not just the headline. Both companies' cheaper tiers explicitly exclude pianos, safe boxes, chillers, motorbikes and vending machines, and neither budget tier includes wrapping, packing, furniture dismantling or boxes. Smart Movers and EazyMover2u are quote-only, with no published rate card — so the numbers above are the yardstick to judge their quotes by.

The movers

Mover2U (trading as Alwinz Biz Resources) has been moving Klang Valley households from its Seri Kembangan base since 2014, running a ten-lorry fleet — 1, 3 and 5-tonne, plus a tailgate lorry and a cargo van — with around 20 trained movers. Beyond house and office moves it handles pianos, safe deposit boxes, pool tables, appliances and bulk furniture disposal, and its published service area extends beyond Selangor to Johor, Penang and Melaka. Office hours are 9am to 6pm daily, public holidays included.

Smart Movers, SSM-registered as Star Win V Resources and also based in Seri Kembangan, covers Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Seremban — its own site does not claim coverage beyond that — with seven 3-tonne lorries in the fleet and larger vehicles brought in on request for bigger projects. It handles household, office and factory moves, RORO bin hire, furniture disposal, and a temporary transit store for renovation gaps. Its posted terms are worth reading before booking: prices are standard per trip, only one destination is allowed per order, stair-carrying is charged extra, and any loss or damage claim must be raised within 48 hours of the job.

LalaPacker works across the Klang Valley up to a 40km radius, positioned around full-service packing and handling — loading, unloading, warehousing, furniture dismantling and reassembly — for residential, office, expo-setup and retail-logistics jobs, plus machinery and safe-box moves. Its 3-tonne and 5-tonne packages bundle 20 large boxes, wrapping and insurance into the headline price rather than charging for them piecemeal.

EazyMover2u operates from Taman Usahawan Kepong in Kuala Lumpur, opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, and says it covers more than 1,000 destinations across Peninsular Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak are not served). Alongside house and office moves it takes on pianos, IT equipment, furniture and appliance assembly, long-distance interstate relocations and rubbish skip rental. Pricing is by quote only.

The self-storage operators

StorHub Malaysia runs five climate-controlled, 24/7-accessible facilities: Jalan Ipoh (directly opposite the MRT2 station), Old Klang Road, Changkat Ceylon in the KL Golden Triangle, Jalan 51A/243 in Petaling Jaya, and Seri Kembangan. Units run from 12 to 1,000 square feet with no security deposit and month-to-month terms. Its live booking engine showed starting rates on 5 September 2026 of RM23.40 a month at Petaling Jaya, RM41.64 at Seri Kembangan, RM228.60 at Jalan Ipoh, RM231.51 at Old Klang Road and RM111.33 at the Changkat Ceylon branch in the Golden Triangle — the low PJ and Seri Kembangan figures are the smallest lockers available that day, so check what size that actually buys before treating it as the going rate.

The Golden Triangle number is the one worth pausing on. Twelve days earlier, on 24 August, the same branch opened at RM306.95 — the most expensive starting rate on this list. At RM111.33 it is now cheaper than either Old Klang Road or Jalan Ipoh, both of which drifted up over the same fortnight (Old Klang Road from RM223.80, Jalan Ipoh from RM224.09). Self-storage starting rates track whatever the smallest empty unit happens to be that morning, so a swing like this reflects a large locker being vacated rather than a repriced tariff — which also means it can vanish as quickly as it appeared. If a city-centre unit is what you want, that is an argument for checking the booking engine on the day and reserving rather than assuming last month's ranking still holds.

Extra Space Asia, founded in 2007 and self-described as Malaysia's largest self-storage provider, runs four facilities: Chan Sow Lin and Segambut in Kuala Lumpur, Section 51A in Petaling Jaya, and Kota Damansara. It offers air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned units plus dedicated wine storage, with 24/7 CCTV and access control. Rates are quoted on enquiry rather than published.

Lock+Store has three Klang Valley sites — Ampang (levels 10 and 11 of The AmpWalk, 218 Jalan Ampang), Glenmarie in Shah Alam (Jalan Penyair U1/44), and Petaling Jaya (Jalan SS7/2) — with 24/7 CCTV, keycard access, spacious loading bays and free use of trolleys and ladders. Its office line answers 9am to 6pm daily and is closed on public holidays; quote requests are answered within one working day.

Cube Self Storage operates in Petaling Jaya (Bangunan Cube Self Storage, 2A Jalan 51A/243, Seksyen 51A) and Glenmarie, Shah Alam (Jalan Kontraktor U1/14, HICOM-Glenmarie Industrial Park), with a third KL facility advertised as opening soon in the city centre, a five-minute walk from LRT Masjid Jamek. Units run from 16 to 250 square feet with climate control, CCTV, PIN-code access and personal padlocks, and the minimum rental period is one month.

Free-month offers are branch-specific — check before you book

Every free-month deal running right now is tied to particular branches, unit sizes or contract lengths, so the banner headline is rarely what you actually get:

  • StorHub runs three in parallel. Three Months Free (12 months for the price of 9) applies at Jalan Ipoh and Old Klang Road; Two Months Free (3rd and 6th month) at Jalan Ipoh and the Kuala Lumpur branch; One Month Free (3rd month) at all five Klang Valley facilities. All are limited to selected unit sizes, with no security deposit. Referring a friend earns RM50 credit off your next month's rental.
  • Lock+Store's Hari Merdeka 2026 promo is the rare one with no branch restriction: Rent 2 Months Get 2 Months Free, or Rent 6 Months Get 7 Months Free, on all storage sizes at all three facilities. Read the banner rather than the summary — it sets the minimum storage period at two months, not three, and prints no closing date at all. It was still the live homepage banner on 5 September, after Merdeka had passed, which cuts both ways: the terms are still being advertised, but a holiday-branded offer with no stated end date is exactly the kind that gets pulled without notice, so get it confirmed on your quote.
  • Extra Space Asia has rolled its Merdeka-season offers over into new ones rather than extending them. Moving Season and Rose Season are both gone; the current pair is Year-End Lock-In — 30% off self storage when you prepay 3 to 12 months, no deposit, ending 30 November 2026 — and Harvest Your Savings, the same 30% on wine storage units. One quirk worth knowing before you plan around it: the wine-storage offer's deadline is printed on Extra Space's own promotions page as "31 November 2026", a date that does not exist. Work to 30 November.
  • Cube's RM1 offer has widened rather than closed. It now runs at two branches — Petaling Jaya and Glenmarie, each with its own page on the promotions index — for new customers on selected units, with deposit and admin fee waived. Two things have changed since August: Cube no longer publishes a closing date, and it no longer prints the old contract ladder (3-month agreement gets 2 months at RM1, 6-month gets 3, 12-month gets 6). The only condition stated on the live page is a minimum three-month signup to qualify, so ask for the month-by-month schedule in writing before you sign — the headline "up to 6 months" is the ceiling, not the default. The older Glenmarie "up to 55% off plus free one-way pickup" deal has now dropped off the promotions index entirely; its deep link still resolves, but treat it as dead.

How to pick

Start with the gap. If you're moving straight from one home to another with no dead time, a mover alone usually covers it. If there's a gap between move-out and move-in — routine with condo handovers and renovations — you need storage as well, and both Mover2U and Smart Movers offer their own transit storage as an add-on if you'd rather deal with a single company and a single invoice.

If you go the dedicated-storage route instead, note that StorHub, Extra Space Asia and Cube all have a facility on the same Seksyen 51A stretch of Petaling Jaya, which makes it the easiest spot in the Klang Valley to walk three facilities and compare three quotes in one afternoon. Then judge on term length rather than the headline rate: nearly every promo above rewards a longer prepaid commitment, so a 12-month contract with six months at RM1 works out very differently from a rolling month-to-month unit at the same advertised price.

For movers, get two or three quotes and hold them against the published Mover2U and LalaPacker cards above — those are real numbers from the operators' own sites, not review-site estimates. Then confirm what's excluded. Stairs, pianos, a second drop-off point and packing materials are the line items that quietly turn a RM400 booking into a RM700 one.
