Bukit Merah Waterpark at RM23: Cheq Oghang Utagha 5.0 for Perak, Kedah, Penang and Perlis Residents

> Quick view: Laketown Waterpark at Bukit Merah is charging a flat RM23 for waterpark admission, adult or child, to anyone who shows a Perak, Kedah, Penang or Perlis ID card. It runs 18 September to 18 October 2026. The normal MyKad gate price is RM40 for an adult and RM30 for a child, so an adult saves RM17 and a child RM7. Tickets are walk-in only at the waterpark ticketing counter, and one ID card buys a maximum of ten.

What the resort is actually offering

The campaign is called Cheq Oghang Utagha 5.0. The name is written in northern dialect, where "cheq" is the everyday word for "I" and "oghang utagha" is "orang utara", northerners. The 5.0 tells you this is the fifth run of it.

The offer itself is one line. Waterpark tickets, in the resort's own words, "exclusive for Perak, Kedah, Pulau Pinang & Perlis residents", at a flat RM23 for an adult or a child.

The resort lists the sale date and the usage date as the same window, 18 September to 18 October 2026. There is no advance-purchase period and nothing to redeem later: you buy the ticket on the day you use it.

Two conditions are printed alongside it:

• Valid for the purchase of up to ten (10) tickets per ID card presented.
• Tickets available for walk-in purchase only at the waterpark ticketing counter.

That second line matters more than it looks, and it is dealt with below.

What you actually save

The waterpark's standard published gate rates are:

• RM40 adult and RM30 child, with MyKad
• RM45 adult and RM35 child, without MyKad
• RM25 special pass for Malaysian senior citizens aged 60 and above and for disabled visitors, waterpark admission only

The child rate applies to children taller than 90cm or aged 12 and below. Children under 90cm are admitted free, which is worth knowing before you queue to buy them a RM23 ticket they do not need.

Set against the MyKad gate price, the campaign comes to:

• Adult: RM40 down to RM23, a saving of RM17, roughly 43% off
• Child: RM30 down to RM23, a saving of RM7, roughly 23% off
• Senior citizen or disabled visitor: RM25 down to RM23, a saving of RM2

So this is an adults' discount with a smaller child discount attached, and for anyone already entitled to the RM25 pass it is almost nothing.

The offer it overlaps, then outlives

The resort has been running a separate promotion called Splashing Funcation since 1 July, and that one is sold online through its own site: RM30 adult and RM25 child for the waterpark. It ends on 30 September 2026.

For thirteen days, 18 to 30 September, the two sit side by side, and they are not the same kind of ticket:

• An adult with a northern ID pays RM23 walk-in instead of RM30 online, saving RM7
• A child with a northern ID pays RM23 walk-in instead of RM25 online, saving RM2
• The online ticket can be bought before you leave the house; the RM23 one cannot

From 1 October the online promotion is gone. After that, RM23 at the counter is the only discounted route for northern residents, and everyone else goes back to the RM40 and RM30 gate rates unless the resort posts something new.

The arithmetic on a real family

Two adults and two children, all with northern ID, on a Saturday:

• At the MyKad gate rate: RM40 plus RM40 plus RM30 plus RM30, which is RM140
• On the campaign: four tickets at RM23, which is RM92
• Saving: RM48

The same family during the overlap, buying Splashing Funcation online instead, would pay RM30 plus RM30 plus RM25 plus RM25, which is RM110. The campaign still saves them RM18, but they give up the ability to book ahead.

Two adults on their own come down from RM80 to RM46. At the ten-ticket cap, a group of adults comes down from RM400 to RM230, a saving of RM170.

One caution on that cap. The resort ties it to "the ID card presented", not to each person entering, which reads as though one qualifying adult can buy for a party of up to ten. The page does not say whether everyone in that party must also be a northern resident. If you are buying for a mixed group, settle it at the counter before you pay rather than assuming.

If you want Animal Paradise too

Animal Paradise, the resort's 3-acre animal park, is charged separately at RM15 adult and RM13 child. Those tickets are also walk-in only, at the Animal Paradise counter, and are valid on the day of purchase only. It opens 10:00am to 6:00pm, with last admission to the Pets Park at 5:15pm.

Until 30 September there is also a Splashing Funcation combo covering both parks, at RM43 adult and RM35 child. Put the routes side by side and they split:

• An adult with northern ID does better buying separately: RM23 plus RM15 is RM38, five ringgit under the RM43 combo
• For a child the combo just wins: RM23 plus RM13 is RM36, against RM35

From 1 October the combo is gone and buying the two separately is the only option.

When you can actually go

Opening hours are not the same every day, and at a flat ticket price that changes what your RM23 buys:

• Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 12:00pm to 5:00pm
• Friday to Sunday: 10:00am to 6:00pm
• School holidays and public holidays: 10:00am to 6:00pm
• Closed on Tuesdays, except public holidays and school holidays

The resort also states that the waterpark closes 15 minutes before the published closing time. So a Monday or Thursday visit is really about four hours and forty-five minutes of water, while a Saturday is nearly eight, for exactly the same RM23. If the point of the trip is the waterpark rather than a quiet park, the weekend ticket is far better value per ringgit, with the crowds that implies.

A Tuesday trip is the one to avoid. Unless the date is a public holiday or falls in the school holidays, the waterpark is shut for maintenance.

Who should skip this

Anyone without a Perak, Kedah, Penang or Perlis ID card cannot use it at all. Until 30 September the online Splashing Funcation ticket at RM30 adult and RM25 child is your cheaper route; after that it is the RM40 and RM30 gate.

Senior citizens and disabled visitors already hold a RM25 waterpark pass, so RM23 is a two-ringgit difference and not a reason to change plans. Parents of children under 90cm should not buy a ticket at all, since those children are free.

And if your trip only works when the tickets are confirmed in advance, this is not the promotion for you. There is no online fallback for the RM23 rate.

The fine print worth knowing

• RM23 covers waterpark admission only. Animal Paradise, the Lake Cruise (RM25 adult, RM15 child, walk-in at the recreation counter) and the other recreation activities are charged separately.
• Walk-in purchase only, at the waterpark ticketing counter.
• Up to ten tickets per ID card presented.
• Lockers, tubes and cabanas are rentals, not inclusions.
• The resort's own note on both park pages: rates and operating hours are subject to change and cancellation without prior notice.

Where it is

Laketown Waterpark sits inside Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, Jalan Bukit Merah, 34400 Semanggol, Perak Darul Ridzuan. The resort puts the waterpark at 11 acres with 14 attractions, and calls it one of the largest in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Semanggol is in Perak's Kerian district, up at the corner where Perak meets Penang and Kedah, which is the geography that makes a four-state promotion make sense in the first place.
