On our 13 September check, a weekday Superior room was RM232 on the opening rate against RM290 on the flexible rate, with RM50 of dining credit a day on top. You pay everything upfront and cannot cancel.

Ipoh is getting a new hotel name rather than a new building. Dusit Princess Ipoh is the 268-room property on Jalan Raja Dihilir, beside the Perak Turf Club, that coverage of the rebrand identifies as the former Travelodge Ipoh, owned by Bursa-listed Plenitude Berhad. It reopens under the Thai group's Dusit Princess brand on 1 October 2026, and it is Dusit's third branded property in Malaysia after Dusit Princess Melaka and ASAI Gamuda Cove in Selangor.

Every hotel opening comes with an "opening rate". What makes this one worth a closer look is that the hotel's own site lists four offers side by side, and two of them carry the identical "from MYR 230" price. So we opened the hotel's live booking engine on 13 September 2026 and priced the same rooms, on the same nights, under every rate it offered.

What the Grand Opening Special actually is

The offer page on dusit.com sets out the terms plainly:

  • Book from now until 31 December 2026
  • Stay from 1 October until 31 December 2026
  • Book only through dusit.com or reservation.dusit.com, so OTA and walk-in rates do not count
  • No minimum or maximum length of stay
  • RM50 daily dining credit at participating outlets, non-refundable, non-transferable and forfeited at check-out
  • Rates are per room, per night, for double occupancy, excluding taxes, gratuities and incidental charges
  • Full payment is charged to your credit card at booking, and the card must be shown at check-in
  • Non-cancellable, non-refundable and non-amendable

The terms say the credit works at participating outlets without naming them. The hotel has two: The Atrium, its all-day restaurant with a buffet breakfast and views towards the limestone hills, and a lobby coffee shop for coffee, tea, juices and pastries.

The rates, room by room

These are the prices the booking engine showed for two adults, before taxes and fees. The Grand Opening Special comes first, then the Advance Saver, then Flexible Stay.

Thursday 1 October and Wednesday 7 October (identical on both nights):

  • Superior, queen or twin: RM232, RM261, RM290
  • Deluxe, queen or twin: RM272, RM306, RM340
  • Premier, queen or twin: RM296, RM333, RM370
  • Family Room, two queen beds, sleeps five: RM392, RM441, RM490

Saturday 10 October:

  • Superior: RM256, RM288, RM320
  • Deluxe: RM296, RM333, RM370
  • Premier: RM320, RM360, RM400
  • Family Room: RM416, RM468, RM520

The pattern is consistent. The opening rate is exactly 20% below Flexible Stay on every room and every date we checked, and the Advance Saver sits halfway between the two. The "MYR 230" headline was not the price on any night we tried, though RM232 is close enough that it may appear on quieter dates. The Family Suite, the 58 sq m room with a queen and two singles, did not show on any of the three October nights but was bookable at Christmas.

Three worked examples

A couple on a weekday night in October. The Superior room is RM232 on the opening rate or RM290 on Flexible Stay, a gap of RM58. Add the RM50 credit and, if you would have eaten at the hotel anyway, the opening rate is worth about RM108 more than the flexible one for that single night.

A family of four on Saturday 10 October. The Family Room is RM416 against RM520, so RM104 less, plus RM50 to put towards breakfast at The Atrium. The Family Room sleeps up to five, which means the parents and three kids can share one room instead of booking two.

Christmas week, three nights from 24 to 27 December. Rates rise for the school holidays: the Superior room is RM320 a night on the opening rate, RM340 on Stay Longer and RM400 on Flexible Stay. When we added the room to the cart, the booking engine put the stay at RM348.60 a night including taxes and fees, or RM1,045.80 for all three nights. Over those three nights you also get RM150 of dining credit, as long as you spend RM50 of it each day.

Where the opening rate is not the cheapest

The Advance Saver, Stay Longer and Flexible Stay rates on the booking engine each carry a line saying that joining Dusit Gold, the group's free loyalty programme, unlocks a 15% member discount on that rate. The Grand Opening Special does not carry that line.

Run the numbers on the 7 October Superior room. By our arithmetic, 15% off the RM261 Advance Saver comes to about RM221.85, which is below the RM232 opening rate. The difference is roughly RM10, and the opening rate gives you RM50 of credit that the Advance Saver does not. So the member rate only wins if you know you will not eat or drink at the hotel. The Advance Saver also has its own limits: you must book at least three days before arrival and it caps at two nights.

At Christmas, 15% off the RM340 Stay Longer rate would be RM289 a night, RM31 below the opening rate. Over three nights that is RM93 in your favour, against RM150 of credit on the opening rate. Again the opening rate comes out ahead for anyone who uses the credit.

We did not create a Dusit Gold account to see the member price on screen, so treat those two figures as our calculation from the booking engine's own wording.

Who should book it, and who should skip it

Book it if your dates are fixed: a wedding at the hotel's Kinta Ballroom, a Perak Turf Club race day, a family visit, or a food weekend in Ipoh Old Town. The saving is real on every room type and the credit covers breakfast for many couples.

Book it if you are travelling as a family. The Family Room at RM392 on a weekday is still cheaper than two Superior rooms on the flexible rate (RM580), and the hotel has an outdoor pool and a Kids Club.

Skip it if there is any chance your plans will move. Flexible Stay costs 25% more than the opening rate, but it needs no prepayment and lets you cancel free up to 6pm the day before arrival.

Skip it if you are only in Ipoh to eat out. A hotel dining credit that expires at check-out is worth nothing to someone who will spend every meal at the kopitiam, and a member rate may then be cheaper.

The fine print that trips people up

  • Nothing can be changed after booking. That includes the dates, the room type and the guest count. If you fall sick or your trip is called off, the offer terms give you no right to a refund.
  • The RM50 credit is daily. It does not add up to a lump sum, and whatever you do not use by check-out is gone.
  • Prices on the booking engine are before taxes and fees. In our December check they added RM28.60 a night to a RM320 room.
  • Rates are for two adults. The hotel's other offer terms mention additional guest charges, so check the total before paying if a third person is sharing.
  • The credit card you paid with must be shown at check-in. If a family member booked for you, sort that out first.
  • Check-in is 3pm and check-out is noon. Pets are not allowed.
  • Limited availability applies. Both Superior room types were already showing "Only 2 rooms left" for 7 October.

Getting there

The hotel is off Jalan Raja Dihilir, in a residential area next to the Perak Turf Club. The hotel says it is under five minutes by car to Ipoh town centre, about 10 minutes to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, and close to the North-South Expressway. Parking is on site, and the building has a surau and a self-service laundry.
