The headline is buy 1 free 1 on selected house pour spirits and wine, backed by 10 mugs of beer from RM165, a RM90 afternoon tea for two, RM28 cake with coffee or tea and RM21 speciality lattes. All prices are nett. The useful detail is which outlet runs which deal, and when.

The four outlets and what each one offers

The two hotels sit a short walk apart on Gurney Drive, and each has a bar and a café-lounge. The deals overlap, but not completely.

  • Gravity, Level 24, G Hotel Kelawai. The rooftop bar, open from 5pm (to midnight Sunday to Thursday, 1am Friday, Saturday, eves of public holidays and public holidays). Buy 1 free 1 on house pours, 10 mugs of beer from RM165, Tea O'Clock at RM90 for two (5pm to 9pm only), live acoustic sets by Strings by Jay (Tuesday to Friday 9pm-10pm, weekends 9pm-11pm) and two dinner packages.
  • 2PM, ground floor, G Hotel Kelawai. A café and lounge with a pool table, open 10am to 10pm. Bittersweet cake and coffee RM28 (10am-9pm), Tea O'Clock RM90 (12pm-9pm), Signature Sips RM21 (12pm-10pm), buy 1 free 1 house pours and the RM165 beer deal.
  • G Spot, Level 3, G Hotel Gurney. Wine and cocktail lounge, open 12pm to 12am. The same menu of deals as 2PM: Bittersweet RM28 and Tea O'Clock RM90 from 12pm to 9pm, Signature Sips RM21, buy 1 free 1 all day and the beer deal.
  • Tree Bar, ground floor, G Hotel Gurney. The open-air bar under the big tree, open from 12pm. Buy 1 free 1 only 12pm to 7pm, the beer deal, an Under The Tree set meal (appetiser, main course and a drink) at RM38, and Strings by Jay from 6pm to 7pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

The two Gravity dinner packages

Sky Birthday Celebration is RM388 nett for two, with a third guest at RM194. It covers a three-course set dinner, a birthday cake and table decoration. Sky Romantic Dinner is RM600 nett for two: four courses, dessert, drinks and decoration. Both need an advance booking. The hotel does not publish the menus, so ask what the courses are and which drinks are included when you call.

What's in the RM90 tea set

The Tea O'Clock menu for this quarter, as listed by the hotel: smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich, deep-fried chicken popcorn, mini seasonal fruits, prawn and avocado tartlet, matcha opera cake, frangipane tart, salted caramel choux, and scones with cream, butter and jam, plus two flavoured coffees or teas (hot or cold). The hotel says menu items can change.

Worked examples

  • Two friends, weekday afternoon at G Spot: Tea O'Clock at RM90 is RM45 each including a drink. Add a bottle of house red or white for RM85 and the bill is RM175, or RM87.50 a head.
  • Quick solo stop at 2PM: Bittersweet is RM28 for a slice of cake and a coffee or tea. A Signature Sips drink alone (ube latte, matcha strawberry latte, butterfly pea honey tea and others) is RM21.
  • Five colleagues after work at Tree Bar: the 10-mug beer deal at the RM165 starting price is RM16.50 a mug, or RM33 each for two mugs. Arrive before 7pm and the spirits and wine drinkers also get buy 1 free 1.
  • Birthday for three at Gravity: RM388 plus RM194 is RM582, about RM194 a head, with the cake included.
  • Lunch on a budget: the Under The Tree set is RM38 for an appetiser, a main course and a drink, served at Tree Bar from noon.

Who it suits, and who can skip it

Good for: couples and small groups who want a hotel bar with a view at nett prices, anyone booking a small birthday dinner, and Gurney Drive shoppers who want a sit-down coffee and cake. The tea set is the best-value item for two people.

Skip if: you want cocktails or a particular whisky, since only *selected* house pours are buy 1 free 1. Non-drinkers should look only at the coffee, tea and cake deals. If you want a full buffet, this is not it: Café 168's weekend seafood buffet at G Hotel Gurney is a separate offer.

Fine print that trips people up

  • Buy 1 free 1 hours differ by outlet. Tree Bar's runs only 12pm to 7pm. Gravity's web page says "all day long", but its poster says daily 5pm to 9pm, so expect it to end at 9pm there.
  • Gravity's tea set is evening only. At Gravity, Tea O'Clock runs 5pm to 9pm. At 2PM and G Spot it starts at noon.
  • The wine add-on is RM85. One line on the Tea O'Clock offer page says "Add RM10"; the same page's terms and all four posters say RM85. Budget RM85.
  • Signature Sips hours. G Spot's offer page says to 11pm; the poster says to 10pm. Order before 10pm to be safe.
  • Beer is "from" RM165. The price depends on the beer you pick, and the hotel does not list brands.
  • All prices are nett, so there is no service charge or SST on top.
