> Quick view: GSC's Buy 1 Free 1 with SPayLater ended on 31 August 2026 — it has been removed from GSC's promotions index and its official page now returns a 404. The identical mechanic is now running at TGV Cinemas, from 1 September to 31 October 2026, capped at 100 transactions a day. Below: how the TGV version works, and every GSC ticket offer still live, re-checked on 8 September 2026.
What happened to the GSC SPayLater deal
From 28 July to 31 August 2026, GSC Cinemas ran Buy 1 Free 1 on Normal 2D adult tickets for anyone paying with SPayLater, Shopee's Buy Now Pay Later service, booked through the GSC website or mobile app. It excluded Aurum Theatre and Velvet Cinemas and was capped at 100 redemptions a day nationwide.
That promotion is over. Checked on 8 September 2026:
- It no longer appears anywhere on GSC's own promotions index at gsc.com.my, which lists every currently live GSC offer
- Its official promotion page, gsc.com.my/promotion/spaylater-buy-1-free-1/, now returns a 404
- GSC has listed no replacement SPayLater or BNPL offer
So if you were holding a SPayLater limit for a GSC booking, that plan no longer works. You have two options: switch cinema chains, or use one of the GSC offers that is still running.
The same deal moved to TGV, until 31 October
TGV Cinemas is running Buy 1 Free 1 with SPayLater from 1 September to 31 October 2026, nationwide. It is the same mechanic at a rival chain:
- Buy one ticket and the second is free, at all TGV cinemas nationwide
- 100 transactions per day, first-come first-served, while stocks last
- One free ticket per transaction
- Not valid for hall bookings, special screenings, events or concerts
- Cannot be combined with other ongoing TGV promotions
How to redeem it at TGV:
- Open the TGV website or app and pick your movie, showtime and cinema
- Select two seats
- Choose the "B1F1 SPayLater" ticket type and set the quantity to 1
- Pay with the SPayLater eWallet
One honest caveat before you plan around it. TGV's promotions section would not load on 8 September 2026 — both the promotions index and the offer's own detail page returned an empty screen or a "page not found" across repeated attempts, so we could not re-read the terms directly from TGV today. The 1 September – 31 October window and the 100-a-day cap are what TGV published at launch and what Malaysian deal outlets reported, and the offer was confirmed live on TGV's own site on 4 September 2026. Check the ticket-type dropdown in the TGV app before you count on it.
Every GSC ticket offer still live, checked 8 September 2026
These are all listed on GSC's own promotions index today, with the numbers taken from each promotion's terms page:
- Students — from RM13. Weekdays Monday to Friday, for movies starting before 6pm. The important detail most write-ups drop: RM13 applies at 19 of the 50 participating cinemas; at the other 31 the student price is RM15. Show a Student ID or NRIC at the cinema.
- Kids aged 3–12, seniors 55+ and OKU cardholders — from RM12. This one is nearly uniform: RM12 at 48 of the 50 participating cinemas, RM13 at the remaining two. NRIC or OKU Registration Card may be requested.
- Alliance Bank Buy 1 Free 1, every Thursday — but it ends 30 September. The campaign runs April to September 2026, so September is its final month. The September quota is 450 Buy 1 Free 1 redemptions for 2D Standard halls and 184 for Premiere Class, first-come first-served. Premiere Class is limited to GSC Gurney Plaza, MyTown, The Starling Mall, Tropicana Gardens Mall, Paradigm Mall JB and IOI City Mall 2 (East). Worth knowing: GSC's own index has been serving this tile as an image filed "B1F1 Alliance Bank Fully Redeemed" while the visible text still reads "Enjoy 2x the Fun Every Thursday" — treat the quota as tight and check at booking.
- GSC Hong Leong credit card — RM6 off, but only online. RM6 off each adult ticket through the GSC website or app, and just RM1 off at the box office counter. Concessions are 30% off online versus 10% at the counter. Valid every day except Wednesday, at all GSC cinemas except Aurum Theatre and Velvet. Unusually, it covers all adult ticket types including IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, Dolby Atmos and Premiere Class.
- AFFIN credit cards — a free ticket, to 31 October 2026. Buy a 2D ticket on a Friday or Saturday and get one free, usable on any day. Capped at 200 free tickets a week — 100 on Friday and 100 on Saturday — and one per cardmember per day. Excludes Aurum Theatre TRX and The Gardens, The Mall Mid Valley Southkey, and Velvet at Sunway 163.
- Rewards Tuesday — 800 GSCoins. Redeem any Tuesday Normal Hall 2D ticket for 800 GSCoins through the Rewards Centre. One voucher per transaction, not valid at Aurum or Velvet.
- Flat-rate cinemas — RM16 adult 2D at GSC Quill City Mall, KL, with flat-rate pricing also running at GSC Melawati Mall, GSC LaLaport BBCC and GSC Summit USJ.
- New this month: Malaysia Month at Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX. From 3 September 2026 while stocks last, GSC Rewards members can redeem ScreenX at 3,500 GSCoins, IMAX at 5,000 GSCoins, or Escape Studio on weekdays at 6,900 GSCoins. The vouchers stay valid until 31 October 2026.
The stacking rule that catches people out
GSC's flat-rate outlets, student prices and kids/senior/OKU prices all carry the same exclusion: they are not valid with any credit card, bank or payment-gateway promotion, except the GSC Hong Leong card.
That has a practical consequence. At GSC Quill City Mall you cannot take the RM16 flat rate *and* an Alliance Bank Thursday Buy 1 Free 1 — you pick one. The GSC Hong Leong card is the single exception, so it is the only card that stacks on a flat-rate ticket.
Worked examples for two adults
Assume a standard Normal 2D showing, two people:
- TGV with SPayLater, to 31 October — you pay for one seat and get two. Your cost per head is half a TGV adult ticket. TGV does not publish a national adult price, so the saving equals whatever one seat costs at your cinema and showtime.
- GSC Quill City Mall flat rate — RM16 each, so RM32 for two, RM16 a head, with no card, app or BNPL account needed.
- GSC with the Hong Leong card, booked online — RM6 off each ticket, so RM12 off the pair. At a cinema pricing adult 2D around RM22, that is roughly RM32 for two.
- GSC students on a weekday afternoon — at an RM13 cinema, RM26 for two, which beats the pair maths on most other offers. At an RM15 cinema it is RM30.
- GSC on a Thursday with an Alliance Bank card, until 30 September — one ticket price for two seats, the closest like-for-like replacement for the dead SPayLater deal if you hold the card.
How to pick
- You have SPayLater and no bank card offer — go to TGV. It is the only Buy 1 Free 1 on a BNPL wallet running right now.
- You hold an Alliance Bank card — use the GSC Thursday Buy 1 Free 1 before 30 September, then reassess.
- You hold an AFFIN credit card — buy on Friday or Saturday at GSC and watch whenever; this one runs to 31 October.
- You are a student, senior, parent with under-12s, or an OKU cardholder — ignore all the payment offers. The concession price is usually lower and needs no card, and you should check whether your cinema is one of the RM13 or RM15 sites first.
- You just want the cheapest seat with no accounts at all — a flat-rate GSC cinema, RM16 at Quill City Mall.
- You want a premium hall cheaply — the Aurum Malaysia Month GSCoins redemption is the only route, and it needs a GSC Rewards balance.
The BNPL fine print people forget
SPayLater is Shopee's Buy Now Pay Later product and, per ShopeePay Malaysia's own terms, it is not regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (it is certified Shariah-compliant by Amanie Advisors). What matters at checkout:
- The 1-month plan carries 0% fees — that is the one to pick for a movie ticket
- The 0% 3-month plan applies only to payments on the Shopee platform and explicitly excludes Bills & Tickets, so a cinema booking cannot be stretched over three months for free
- 3, 6 and 12-month instalments carry 1.5% per month
- Late payment attracts a flat RM10 late fee — on a ticket in the RM16–RM25 range, that is an expensive way to have saved the price of one seat
If SPayLater is not switched on yet, check your eligibility a day or two ahead rather than at the checkout screen for a same-day showtime.
