> Quick view: Neither GSC nor TGV is running a SPayLater Buy 1 Free 1 right now. GSC's ended on 31 August 2026. TGV's version was advertised to 31 October 2026 but has been pulled from TGV's own promotions list. Below are the movie ticket deals that are actually live at both chains, re-checked on 10 October 2026 against each cinema's own terms pages.
What happened to the SPayLater deals
From 28 July to 31 August 2026, GSC Cinemas ran Buy 1 Free 1 on Normal 2D adult tickets for anyone paying with SPayLater, Shopee's Buy Now Pay Later service, booked through the GSC website or app. It excluded Aurum Theatre and Velvet Cinemas and was capped at 100 redemptions a day nationwide. That promotion is over: it is not on GSC's promotions index, and its official page now returns a 404.
TGV Cinemas then launched the same mechanic, Buy 1 Free 1 with SPayLater, advertised for 1 September to 31 October 2026, 100 transactions a day. Deal sites still list it to 31 October. But TGV's own data says otherwise:
- On 10 October 2026, TGV's live promotions feed listed 24 offers, and none of them involves SPayLater or Shopee
- The offer's detail page has bounced back to the promotions listing since mid-September
- TGV has not said why it went, so treat it as withdrawn early or fully redeemed, not as a deal you can plan around
If you still want to try, open the TGV app, pick two seats and look for a "B1F1 SPayLater" ticket type. If it is not in the dropdown, the offer is not available to you. Do not book a SPayLater-only plan for a date night without checking first.
Live at GSC, checked 10 October 2026
All of these are on GSC's promotions index today. The numbers come from each promotion's own terms page.
- Alliance Bank Buy 1 Free 1, every Thursday — now extended to 31 December 2026. The campaign was due to end in September and now runs to the end of the year. It covers 2D normal adult tickets, single or twin seats, bought on the GSC website or app with a participating Alliance Bank debit or credit card. The monthly quota has been cut: 200 Standard-hall redemptions a month for October to December (it was 450 in September), and 133–134 for Premiere Class. Premiere Class is only at GSC Gurney Plaza, MyTown, The Starling Mall, Tropicana Gardens Mall, Paradigm Mall JB and IOI City Mall 2 (East). Book early on Thursday.
- AFFIN credit cards — a free ticket, now to 31 December 2026. Buy a 2D ticket online on a Friday or Saturday and get one free, usable on any day. Capped at 100 free tickets on Friday and 100 on Saturday, one per cardmember per day. The booking fee still applies. Excludes Aurum Theatre (TRX, The Gardens, Mid Valley Southkey) and Velvet at Sunway 163.
- GSC Hong Leong credit card — RM6 off, but only online. RM6 off each adult ticket through the GSC website or app, and only RM1 off at the counter. Combos are 30% off online and 10% at the counter. Valid every day except Wednesday shows, at all GSC cinemas except Aurum and Velvet. It covers every adult ticket type, including IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Premiere Class. You need a GSC Hong Leong Gold or Platinum card.
- Students — from RM13. Weekdays, for movies starting before 6pm. RM13 applies at 19 of the 50 participating cinemas. At the other 31, the student price is RM15. Show a Student ID or NRIC at the cinema.
- Kids aged 3–12, seniors 55+ and OKU cardholders — from RM12. RM12 at 48 of the 50 participating cinemas, RM13 at the remaining two.
- Flat rate — RM16 adult 2D at GSC Quill City Mall, KL. Melawati Mall, LaLaport BBCC and Summit USJ also run flat-rate pricing.
- Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX. GSC Rewards members can still redeem ScreenX for 3,500 GSCoins, IMAX for 5,000 GSCoins or Escape Studio on weekdays for 6,900 GSCoins, while stocks last. Vouchers expire 31 October 2026. Separately, Comfort Cabin, Escape Studio and IMAX seats at Aurum TRX are RM69 with one snack and one drink, except on public holidays and pre-holiday shows after 6pm.
One change since September: Rewards Tuesday (800 GSCoins for a Tuesday ticket) is no longer on GSC's index. The only 800-GSCoin ticket listed now is a limited voucher for one re-release title, for the first 500 members.
Live at TGV, checked 10 October 2026
These come from TGV's own promotion terms:
- Maybank Mastercard Debit — RM10 tickets, Thursday to Sunday, to 31 December 2026. Choose the "Maybank Mastercard Single" ticket and pay with the debit card. Maximum 2 tickets per transaction. TGV releases 3,000 promotional tickets a week nationwide, first-come first-served.
- Affin credit card — Buy 1 Free 1 on Fridays and Saturdays, to 31 October 2026. Choose one "B1F1 with Affin" ticket. Deluxe single seats, 2D only, 200 tickets a day, one promotional transaction per customer per week.
- Mid Day Movies from RM10, all year. Sessions between 12pm and 6pm, weekdays only, Deluxe single seats, excluding titles TGV marks as Blockbusters.
Every TGV promotion says it is not valid with other ongoing promotions, so pick one.
The stacking rule that catches people out
GSC's flat-rate outlets, student prices and kids/senior/OKU prices share one exclusion: they are not valid with any credit card, bank or payment-gateway promotion, except the GSC Hong Leong card.
So at GSC Quill City Mall you cannot combine the RM16 flat rate with the Alliance Bank Thursday Buy 1 Free 1. You pick one. The Hong Leong card is the only card that stacks on a flat-rate or concession ticket.
Worked examples for two adults
Assume a Normal 2D showing, two people. Neither chain publishes one national adult price, so the examples use published promo prices:
- TGV, Maybank Debit, a Saturday show — 2 × RM10 = RM20 for two. This is the cheapest weekend option at either chain if you hold the card.
- GSC, Alliance Bank, a Thursday — you pay for one adult 2D seat and get two, so your cost is one ticket at your cinema's price.
- GSC Quill City Mall flat rate — RM32 for two, with no card, app or BNPL account needed.
- GSC with the Hong Leong card, booked online — RM12 off the pair. At a cinema charging around RM22 for adult 2D, that is roughly RM32 for two.
- GSC students on a weekday afternoon — RM26 for two at an RM13 cinema, RM30 at an RM15 cinema.
How to pick
- You were waiting for the SPayLater deal — stop waiting. It is not live at either chain. Use a card offer below or a concession price.
- You hold a Maybank Mastercard Debit card — TGV at RM10 a seat from Thursday to Sunday is the simplest deal running.
- You hold an Alliance Bank card — GSC on Thursday, but the quota is now 200 a month, so book as soon as sessions open.
- You hold an AFFIN credit card — buy on a Friday or Saturday at either chain. GSC's runs to 31 December. TGV's ends 31 October.
- You are a student, senior, parent with under-12s or an OKU cardholder — skip the payment offers. The concession price is usually lower and needs no card.
- You want no accounts at all — a GSC flat-rate cinema, RM16 at Quill City Mall, or TGV Mid Day from RM10 on a weekday afternoon.
- You want a premium hall cheaply — Aurum TRX at RM69 with a snack and drink, or the GSCoins redemption before 31 October.
If you still pay with SPayLater
SPayLater is Shopee's Buy Now Pay Later product. According to ShopeePay Malaysia's own terms, it is not regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (it is certified Shariah-compliant by Amanie Advisors). Without a promotion, it saves you nothing at the cinema:
- The 1-month plan carries 0% fees
- The 0% 3-month plan applies only to payments on the Shopee platform and excludes Bills & Tickets
- 3, 6 and 12-month instalments carry 1.5% per month
- Late payment attracts a flat RM10 late fee, which is the price of a TGV Maybank ticket
