  • Those are the list rates, not dressed-up ones. The hotel still hosts its previous, undiscounted Hi-Tea listing — the one whose promotion period ran only to 30 June 2025 — and that page carries the identical RM75.00+ / RM43.00+. The 20% comes off the same rate the hotel charged before it existed
  • The listing itself shows no posted date and no closing date. The four other offers on the page are all stamped 18 September 2025; this one is not. Its artwork was uploaded 3 November 2025, which is the earliest date that can honestly be attached to it
  • Buying through the app also earns Insiders Club points
  • Served every Saturday and Sunday, 2:00pm-5:00pm

What the "+" means, and what you actually pay

Hotel buffets in Malaysia are usually quoted "++", meaning a 10% service charge *and* 6% service tax on top — a 16.6% uplift that turns RM75 into RM87.45. This one is quoted with a single "+", and the hotel's own fine print says only that "prices displayed are subject to prevailing SST". No service charge is mentioned, so the "+" is tax alone.

Malaysia's service tax on food and beverage is 6%. It stayed at 6% when the standard service tax rate rose to 8% in March 2024, so restaurant bills did not move. The arithmetic:

  • Adult: RM75.00 → RM60.00 with 20% off → RM63.60 paid
  • Child (6-12): RM43.00 → RM34.40 with 20% off → RM36.46 paid

A worked example — two adults and two children aged 6-12 on a Saturday afternoon:

  • At the list rate: RM150 + RM86 = RM236, or RM250.16 after 6% SST
  • With the app discount: RM120 + RM68.80 = RM188.80, or RM200.12 after 6% SST
  • A saving of RM50.04 on a single sitting

How it compares in Kuching

The table below prices every weekend hotel hi-tea in Kuching we could verify from an official channel in September 2026, converted to what one person actually hands over.

Two caveats. Pullman's Culina listing carries a stated period of 5 April to 30 August 2026 — it is still sitting on the hotel's offers page, but that window has closed, so call before planning around it. And the Sheraton and Pullman sittings start at 12:30pm and noon, which makes them a late lunch; Sape's 2pm-5pm is the only one that is genuinely an afternoon slot.

The short version: at RM63.60 all-in, the Sape deal is roughly 35% cheaper than the nearest comparable weekend hi-tea in the city, and it runs on both weekend days rather than one. Even the walk-in price of RM79.50 is still the cheapest of the four.

How to book it

  1. Download the Insiders Club app — the free loyalty programme covering five Sarawak properties, Riverside Majestic Astana Wing among them — and sign up
  2. Find the Hi-Tea Buffet deal for Sape Restaurant and purchase it in the app. The 20% is attached to that purchase, not to a walk-in counter rate
  3. Buy at least 2 days before you intend to dine. The hotel asks for this because the buffet is prepared fresh on demand, so it is a real constraint rather than a suggestion
  4. On the day, open the Booking section of the app and show the e-Voucher to the restaurant staff. Without it, you do not get the deal
  5. Booking for a larger group? Call the outlet with your booking confirmations so they can seat you together — seating is subject to availability

What the Insiders Club membership actually gets you

The 20% is not a one-off campaign. It is the programme's standing dining benefit, and the membership carries several published perks the deal listing never mentions. From the club's own member benefits sheet:

  • Dining: from 20% off the total bill, excluding alcoholic beverages — the same 20% attached to this Hi-Tea voucher
  • Kids eat free: children below 6 years old, up to 2 children per paying adult, when dining in. The Hi-Tea listing prices children 6-12 only and is silent on younger ones, so this is where that answer sits. Confirm it at the outlet, because the same sheet also states that member discounts cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions or offers — and a discounted voucher may count as one
  • Points are worth 1%: you earn RM1 = 1 point and redeem 1 point = RM0.01. That is about RM0.64 back on a RM63.60 sitting. Real, but not a reason to choose this over anything else
  • Rooms from 10% off the best available rate, spa from 10% off selected packages, laundry 25% off
  • A complimentary welcome mocktail for two per room per stay, a birthday-month room upgrade, complimentary early check-in and late check-out subject to availability, and mobile check-in from one day before arrival

Membership is free and covers five Sarawak properties: Riverside Majestic Puteri Wing and Astana Wing, Grand Margherita Hotel, Damai Beach Resort and Damai Lagoon Resort.

Fine print worth reading

  • Dine in only — no takeaway
  • Sharing is not allowed: one voucher covers one diner, so two people splitting a single adult buffet will not work
  • The purchase is non-refundable, so be reasonably certain of your date before you buy
  • You must show the e-Voucher from the app's Booking section at the table
  • Prices are subject to prevailing SST
  • The listing carries no end date, so treat it as an ongoing weekend offer rather than a limited window — but the hotel can withdraw it, so check the app before you build a trip around it
  • The hotel's site still hosts the older Hi-Tea listing whose promotion period ran only to 30 June 2025. If you land on that page you are on the wrong one; the live deal is titled [20% OFF!] HI-TEA BUFFET
  • One aggregator write-up of this promo dates it "22 June 2026 onwards" and tells readers they can book it by phone. Neither matches the hotel's own listing, which shows no start date and requires the app e-Voucher

Who it suits — and who should skip

Worth it if you are a family or a group of two or more spending a weekend afternoon in Kuching and you can commit to a date two days ahead. At RM63.60 a head all-in it is the cheapest hotel hi-tea in the city by a wide margin, and if you have children under 6 the kids-eat-free benefit widens the gap further. The riverside location means you can fold it into a Waterfront walk rather than making a separate trip of it.

Skip it if you only want a light afternoon snack — a buffet is poor value when all you are after is coffee and a slice of cake, and Kuching is not short of cafés for that. Skip it too if your plans might shift: the purchase is non-refundable and tied to the app, so a cancelled weekend means a wasted voucher. And if you want a bigger, more elaborate spread with a seafood bar and carving station, the RM98 sittings at Sheraton and Pullman are a different product — the gap in price is not purely a discount.
