JPJ's rule is two numbers: at least 70% light through the front windscreen, at least 50% through the two front side windows. Behind those, nothing is capped. Going darker at the front is legal only with a written JPJ approval, and JPJ's own conditions document prices it: RM50 to apply on health grounds, or RM50 plus RM5,000 on approval if the ground is security, both non-refundable, both valid two years. Against that, the installation itself is cheap and wildly inconsistent. We read eight Klang Valley operators' own websites on 8 September 2026. Four publish a price and four do not, and among the four that do, the same phrase "full car tint" runs from RM249 to RM4,500.

JPJ publishes a fee for almost everything it touches. A learner licence for a car is RM30 for three months, a probationary licence is RM60 for two years, the theory test is RM27 plus 8% SST and a retake is RM17 plus 8%. Add every government fee a first-time car driver pays and it comes to well under RM200. The bill people actually pay is RM1,477 for a manual and RM1,577 for an automatic at one Melaka institute, because JPJ states plainly that it does not set driving institute prices. There is one exception, and one way to pay nothing at all.

Selling a used car privately costs far less in fees than most people assume, but the number almost every guide prints is wrong.
