> Quick view: book TROVE Johor Bahru's Christmas Around the Globe buffet by 8 December 2026 and an adult pays RM118 nett instead of RM158 nett. It runs on 24 and 25 December. A couple saves RM80, and so does a family with two children, because only adults get the lower rate. If you want a room too, Christmas Eve is the night to pick.
What the buffet costs
All prices come from the hotel's dining offers page, read on 3 November, and the hotel states that they include tax.
- Early bird, 14 September to 8 December: RM118 nett per adult
- Normal price, 9 to 25 December: RM158 nett per adult
- Child or senior citizen: RM118 nett per person, listed under the normal price
Dinner is at Lada & Clove on Level 8, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. That is a Thursday (24 December) and a Friday (25 December, Christmas Day). To reserve, WhatsApp 012-881 8413 or call the restaurant on 07-272 8805.
How the early bird plays out
The saving is RM40 for each adult and nothing for anyone else, since the page gives no lower early bird rate for children or seniors. During the early bird, everyone at the table pays the same RM118.
- Couple: RM236 by 8 December, RM316 after. You save RM80.
- Two adults, two children: RM472 by 8 December, RM552 after. You save RM80.
- Two adults and a grandparent: RM354 by 8 December, RM434 after. You save RM80.
- Six adults: RM708 by 8 December, RM948 after. You save RM240.
Groups with more adults gain the most, so an office dinner or a table of friends has the strongest reason to book in November.
What is on the menu
The menu PDF linked from the offer is organised by country. The dishes most people will head for are these:
- Roasts and carving: roast turkey, prime rib, roasted whole lamb and Beef Wellington
- Seafood: green mussels, clams, oysters, crabs, tiger prawns and a whole baked salmon
- Japanese: sashimi and sushi, prawn and vegetable tempura, okonomiyaki and curry rice
- Italian: a live pasta wheel station and spaghetti alle vongole
- Desserts: Christmas pudding, yule log, pavlova, tiramisu, pecan pie and a fruit station
One mismatch is worth knowing. The offer page lists Malaysia among its seven destinations, but the menu has no Malaysian section. Its other sections are American, German, Italian, British, French and Japanese, plus "Summer Christmas" and "Global Christmas" pages. If you are bringing relatives who want something local, ask the restaurant first.
The hotel's home page says Lada & Clove is now Halal certified. Ask to see the certificate if that decides your booking.
Is RM118 a good price?
Against TROVE's own buffet, you are paying more for the occasion. Its Rasa-Rasa Malaysia weekend dinner was listed at RM78 nett an adult for July to September, so the Christmas early bird costs RM40 more, and the normal price RM80 more.
Against other JB hotels, it looks modest. On 3 November, DoubleTree's booking page listed its usual Seafood Dinner Buffet for Friday 25 December at RM168 nett an adult and RM88 a child, with a Buy 4 Free 1 deal. Amari Johor Bahru's Saturday buffet in November is RM178 nett an adult, RM138 a senior and RM98 a child. Those are not Christmas menus, and neither hotel had published one that we could find, so treat them as rough markers. Note the children's rates: at both, a child pays less than TROVE's RM118, so a family with several small children may not be better off here. See our JB hotel buffet price guide for the regular rates elsewhere.
Staying the night: pick 24 December
We ran both nights through the hotel's booking engine on 3 November, for two adults. The prices below are nett, per room, per night.
For the night of 24 December:
- Deluxe King, Family Staycation package with breakfast: RM260
- Deluxe King, early bird rate with breakfast: RM398
- Deluxe King, room and breakfast: RM438
- Family Suite, Family Staycation package with breakfast: RM750
- Family Suite, room and breakfast: RM1,048
The offer page says the RM750 suite package covers four people. For the night of 25 December, the package did not appear. The cheapest Deluxe King with breakfast was RM398, and the Family Suite started at RM1,008.
That gives these totals, with everyone on the RM118 buffet rate:
- Couple on 24 December: RM260 + RM236 = RM496
- Couple on 25 December: RM398 + RM236 = RM634, so the same trip costs RM138 more
- Family of four on 24 December, Family Suite: RM750 + RM472 = RM1,222
- Family of four on 25 December, Family Suite: RM1,008 + RM472 = RM1,480
The package page also promises 10% off food and drink at Lada & Clove. It does not say whether that covers the Christmas buffet, so assume not until the hotel confirms it.
Fine print that can trip you up
- Child age is not stated. The Christmas offer gives no age range. The hotel's Ramadan buffet, on the same page, defines a child as 6 to 12 and a senior as 60 and above, but that is a different offer. Ask whether younger children eat free.
- "Early bird" has no booking rule. The page gives dates only. Confirm whether a reservation by 8 December is enough, or whether you must pay by then.
- Rooms are non-refundable. The engine charges the full amount on the day of booking and does not allow changes. Room rates can also move or sell out after the date we read them.
- Skip room-only. On both nights, the Deluxe King early bird rate with breakfast cost the same RM398 as room-only.
- Check-in costs. Expect a refundable RM200 deposit. Foreign passport holders also pay RM10 Tourism Tax per room per night.
- Parking. It is free for in-house guests. The hotel does not say whether buffet-only diners get the same, so ask.
Who should book, and who should skip
Book if you are a group of adults, or a couple who can use the RM260 room on Christmas Eve. Think twice if you have several young children, want Christmas lunch, or need a refundable room. Everyone else has until 8 December, and the RM40 only disappears for adults after that.
