> Quick view: Big Bad Wolf Miri 2026 ran 24 September to 4 October at Level R, Boulevard Shopping Mall, and was not extended. As at 29 October there is no new Sarawak date. The nearest sale is Kota Kinabalu SICC, which opens tomorrow, 30 October, and runs to 9 November 2026. Until the wolf comes back, POPULAR Bintang Megamall and Big Bad Wolf's online store are the realistic options in Miri.
Big Bad Wolf's East Malaysia tour opened in Kuching (25 August to 6 September) and moved up to Miri, where it took over the rooftop Level R of Boulevard Shopping Mall for 11 days. The Miri sale closed on schedule on Saturday 4 October. Big Bad Wolf's own events page for the stop lists only the 24 September to 4 October window, and we found no extension notice. If you are reading this after a weekend trip to Boulevard and found an empty Level R, that is why.
Is there another Big Bad Wolf in Sarawak this year?
Not that Big Bad Wolf has announced. Its events index at bigbadwolfbooks.com is the version of record for every leg, and when we re-read it on 29 October the only Malaysian entry after Miri is Kota Kinabalu (posted 12 October). Everything else published since is overseas: West Java, Bangkok, ICE BSD City in Indonesia (15 October) and Manila (20 October). A 28 September entry headlined "Book sale event returns to Kuching" is a repost of a press preview of the August Kuching stop, not a new date.
The next confirmed Malaysian stop is across the border in Sabah:
- Where: Annex B, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Tanjung Lipat, Kota Kinabalu
- When: 30 October to 9 November 2026, 10am to 10pm daily, free entry
- Offer: books from RM3, up to 95% off, and a 10g gold bar lucky draw (the launch artwork puts prizes at up to RM15,000)
- Perks on the official event page: early-bird vouchers, RM15 off for returning customers, an instant cash rebate, daily title promotions, and 5% off for students, educators and Sabah library members. The page names the perks but not the RM thresholds, so expect the rebate tiers to be posted at the hall, as they were in Miri
AirAsia flies Miri to Kota Kinabalu direct, a flight of about 50 minutes, so a two-weekend window (31 October to 1 November, or 7 to 8 November) gives Miri readers a realistic day trip or overnight. Whether it pays depends on how much you buy. For one or two books, the airfare will wipe out the saving. For a family stocking a home library, or a teacher buying for a class, the KK sample prices (worked out in our KK guide as 11% to 86% off the recommended retail price) can cover the trip.
When will Big Bad Wolf come back to Miri?
Big Bad Wolf has not said, so treat this as a pattern rather than a promise. Miri has now hosted the sale two years running:
- 2025: 23 October to 3 November, as the middle leg of an East Malaysia run that went Kuching, Miri, then Kota Kinabalu
- 2026: 24 September to 4 October, the same order, about a month earlier
Two consecutive years in the same slot points to a Miri stop again in 2027, most likely between September and November. When it comes, Big Bad Wolf's Facebook page usually breaks the news first, a few weeks before opening, with the events page following later. The 2026 Miri teaser went up on 5 September, 19 days before doors opened.
One warning for planning: the terms change at every stop. Kuching 2026 gave schools 10% off from RM1,000 and a 10g gold bar draw; Miri 2026 set the bulk threshold at RM1,600 and drew for a 5g bar. Do not budget a 2027 visit on this year's numbers.
Where to buy cheap books in Miri until then
1. POPULAR, Bintang Megamall. The only big chain bookshop listed for Miri on POPULAR's own store locator: Lot 2.56, 2nd floor, Bintang Megamall, Jalan Miri Pujut, open 10am to 10pm every day. Prices are full retail, so this is the place for school books, stationery and specific new titles rather than bargain hunting. Bintulu readers have the nearest branch at The Spring Bintulu, 10am to 10pm daily. BookXcess, the other discount chain, has no store in East Malaysia: its store list covers only Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang, Perak and Singapore.
2. Big Bad Wolf's online store, my.bbwbooks.com. It delivers anywhere in Malaysia, quoting 10 to 15 business days for East Malaysia, door to door only (no PO boxes). When we checked on 6 October, roughly half of its first 1,500 listings were in stock and the median in-stock price was RM13.99. That is above the fair's RM3 floor, but the range is wider than anything on Miri's shelves between tours. Check the delivery fee at checkout before deciding whether a small order is worth it.
3. The RM100 Baucar Buku MADANI, for school students, this week only. Secondary school, Form Six, matriculation and IPG students under KPM each have an RM100 book voucher in 2026, redeemed through DELIMa and spent online on the Book Capital platform, not at a fair counter or in a shop, so it could never have been used at Boulevard anyway. Book Capital's own FAQ prints no end date; the sellers on the platform give 11.59pm on Saturday 31 October 2026, so anyone who has not spent theirs has two days. It must be one transaction with at least one "Judul Khas" (Special Titles) book. Big Bad Wolf is one of the sellers. The separate voucher for university, polytechnic and college students on MySiswaPlace is already over: its notice set 21 September to generate a code and 28 September to finish buying, and no extension has been posted.
What Miri got in 2026, for the record
The 2026 Miri stop offered books from RM3 and up to 95% off, an instant cash rebate of RM5 off RM100 or RM10 off RM150 (not stackable), an RM10 voucher for the first 50 shoppers in before 11am each day, buy 6 get 1 free on weekdays, RM15 off for returning customers, 5% off for students and educators on three books or more, and bulk rates for schools of 10% from RM1,600 and 12.5% from RM4,500. Big Bad Wolf said about 40% of the Miri titles were new stock that had not appeared at earlier stops. The Community Gold Rush draw offered a 5g PAMP Suisse gold bar; we have not found a published winner announcement yet.
Worked against real baskets, the rebate was modest: RM5 on RM100 is 5%, and RM10 on RM150 is 6.7%. The real value was in the shelf prices themselves, especially children's books, which is the pattern to expect again in KK.
Who should do what now
- Families and teachers who missed Miri: plan for KK (30 October to 9 November) if you can combine it with a trip, otherwise use the online store for children's titles.
- School students: spend the RM100 MADANI voucher on Book Capital by Saturday 31 October. It does not work at any fair, and the university MySiswaPlace voucher has already closed.
- Readers after one specific new release: POPULAR Bintang Megamall. Big Bad Wolf rarely discounts current bestsellers deeply, so waiting for 2027 will not save you much on those.
