> Quick view: Big Bad Wolf Kuching 2026 is over — it ran 25 August to 6 September at Boulevard Shopping Mall, Kuching and was not extended. The follow-on Sarawak stop, Miri (Level R, Boulevard Shopping Mall Miri, 24 September to 4 October), has also closed. As at 5 October 2026, Big Bad Wolf has announced no further Sarawak date. Is Big Bad Wolf still on in Kuching?

No. The Kuching leg at Boulevard Shopping Mall ran its published dates, 25 August to 6 September 2026, daily 10am to 10pm, and closed on the night of 6 September. Big Bad Wolf's own last Kuching post said it was "packing it ALL UP", so there was no extension. The Miri leg that followed ended on 4 October 2026.

Big Bad Wolf's corporate events index, which lists every leg, was checked on 5 October 2026. Its newest Malaysian entries are Kuching and Miri. Its newest entries overall are Bangkok, West Java and Jakarta. There is no new Kuching or Sarawak page. A 28 September entry headed "Book sale event returns to Kuching" is a repost of The Star's 14 August preview of the sale that has already happened. It is not a new announcement.

When will Big Bad Wolf come back to Kuching?

Nobody has published a date, and Big Bad Wolf has not said there will be a 2027 Kuching leg. What two years of dates do show is a fixed East Malaysia running order:

  • 2025: Kuching 27 September to 5 October, Miri 23 October to 3 November, Kota Kinabalu (SICC) 12 to 16 November, according to Bernama's report of 30 September 2025.
  • 2026: Kuching 25 August to 6 September, Miri 24 September to 4 October, Kota Kinabalu (SICC) 30 October to 9 November.

Kuching opened the tour both years, and in 2026 it came about a month earlier than in 2025. Treat that as a pattern, not a promise. If it holds, the next Kuching sale is more likely in the second half of 2027 than any time before then.

The nearest Big Bad Wolf now: Kota Kinabalu, 30 October to 9 November

Big Bad Wolf posted the Kota Kinabalu leg on its Instagram on 2 October 2026. It runs at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), 10am to 10pm daily, with free entry. Books start from RM3 and go up to 95 per cent off, and there is a gold-bar lucky draw. As at 5 October the corporate events index has no KK page yet. On past form it appears about a week before opening. That is also when the per-stop rebates, early-bird vouchers and student rates usually come out. Is it worth flying from Kuching? Only for a big basket. A family stocking up on children's books, or a school or tuition centre buying in bulk, can come out ahead after a flight. Someone after a handful of novels will not. The Kuching price posts showed the deepest cuts on children's titles (an 87 per cent markdown on a board book). The bestseller people actually queued for was just 20 per cent off.

What Kuching ran in 2026 — and why you can't assume it next time

The table below is the full set of Kuching mechanics, taken from Big Bad Wolf's own posters and its event-page coverage. The more useful lesson comes from setting it beside Miri, three weeks later. The terms changed from stop to stop:

  • Bulk discount for schools: Kuching gave 10 per cent from RM1,000 and 12.5 per cent from RM4,000. Miri moved those floors up to RM1,600 and RM4,500.
  • Lucky draw: Kuching's grand prize was a 10g gold bar from an RM20,000 prize pool. Miri's was a 5g PAMP Suisse gold bar.
  • Early bird: Kuching gave vouchers to the first 50 customers on opening day. Miri gave an RM10 cash voucher to the first 50 shoppers before 11am, every day.
  • Unchanged: the RM15 returning-customer voucher, the 5 per cent student and educator rate (minimum three books), and the rule that the promotions do not stack.

So read each leg's own poster before you plan a budget. Don't copy last year's Kuching numbers onto the next one.

Buying cheap books in Kuching until Big Bad Wolf returns

  • RM100 MADANI book voucher (to 31 October 2026, 11:59pm). Eligible secondary-school students redeem it through DELIMa on Book Capital. IPT students use MySISWAPLACE. It works online only, never at a Big Bad Wolf fair. It must be spent in one transaction, any balance is forfeited, and at least one "MADANI Book Voucher 2026 Special Titles" book is compulsory. Big Bad Wolf sells on Book Capital, so this is the nearest thing to its prices that a Kuching student can use this month.
  • POPULAR Bookfair @ Emart Tabuan Jaya (to 1 November 2026). It is on POPULAR's live promotions page as at 5 October, on the Ground Floor at lots G20 and G21, 10am to 10pm. It suits Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese-language books, which Big Bad Wolf barely stocks. Check the fair's own flyer for current offers, since POPULAR's terms differ from fair to fair.   • BookXcess online. BookXcess is Big Bad Wolf's sister retailer. Its store list covers Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang, Perak and Singapore, with no branch in Sarawak, so in Kuching its prices come only by delivery.

Who should travel, who should wait

Go to Kota Kinabalu if you are buying for a school, a library, a tuition centre or several children, or you already have a reason to be in KK between 30 October and 9 November.

Wait for Kuching if you want a few titles. Use the MADANI voucher before 31 October if you are eligible, and set a reminder to check Big Bad Wolf's channels from mid-2027.

How to catch the next Kuching date first

  1. Big Bad Wolf's Instagram and Facebook break each stop first, often with the dates printed inside the artwork rather than in the caption.
  2. bigbadwolfbooks.com/blogs/events confirms the stop, usually about a week before opening. It is the version of record, but it is never first.
  3. Local press previews (The Star Metro, Borneo Post, Sarawak Tribune) carry the spend thresholds the event page leaves out. They usually run in the week before the sale.
